I was a little skepticale at first cause I have never owned a gun except a paintball gun. Needless to say this is my first 12 gauge shotgun . I bought this gun at a pawn shop and bought a cleanining kit at walmart and cleaned it up. I feell in love with this gun real fast it s so easy to use and have had a lot of fun in the past few weeks. I also bought a shotgun sight and a recoil pad for this gun because it kicks and shot 7 clay targets with it just like that. This is a great beginner gun. I love it. Still cant believe I got it for $50.00

I had an H&R 20 gauge when I was a 14 year old kid, and I got a few rabbits with it. I loved having it then. All my friends had 22's and so when we when hunting together once, they'd shoot at a rabbit first, and if they missed, I'd blast it with my 20 gauge. That was the plan. Then for a long time I was into archery and really had some lousy results and then I wanted to go gun hunting lately. So recently after many decades since being 14 I got a Parder 20 gauge, which is pretty much the same thing. I really enjoy it alot. I've been to the range with it and doing pretty good and really enjoy shooting again and found that a homemade foam rubber/duck tape recoil pad pretty much eliminates a lot of the recoil. I enjoy a single shot shotgun for its simplicity, and the Pardner I also enjoy for its low price. I find myself wondering what's the actual percent of the time you will get a second shot off anyway. Because its such a basic gun, it sort of gives my that old fashioned pioneer fee... Read more

ive had a single shot 12-ga pardner for several years now. its the first gun ive ever owned, i have to say, it is the most reliable, accurat, and unforgiving gun ive ever fired. i live in the middle of no where, and i live in a family of gun crazy hillbillys. ive shot more types of guns then i bother to try and count. but my pardner is still my favoret by a mile. it might kick like a mule but that just makes you know it isnt something to be played with. it means bussnes. ive put over a hundred rounds though it in a day and had no problems other then a foot by half foot black spot on my sholder, and some problems lifting my right arm all the way up, but that aside it is by far the best gun you can get for the price, or any price, if you want a reliable, no none sence gun with out all the flare and gimicks of other guns then this is your gun.

I love my Pardner 12 gauge single shot rifle. I am so glad that New England, AKA H&R 1871, make this wonderful rifle. It is such a low cost, yet it is a beautiful rifle and definitely gives value to the "Made in the USA" stamp. It would be great if they made a side-by-side or an over-under. Still, there is something about this single shot rifle that just oozes charm. I recommend getting this rifle, you won't regret it.

I own 3 Pardner single-shot shotguns-12 gauge modified,20 gauge youth with a 22 inch barrel and a .410 modified.I also own other more expensive shotguns. My Pardners were usually my back-up guns.Recently, out here in West Texas I was chopping some firewood and had my 870 Express alongside where I was working.I came upon a couple of large skunks who started coming at me.Since it was still early afternoon,I guessed they may have been rabid plus they seemed aggressive.I quickly grabbed my 870 Express and it suddenly jammed.I ran to my truck and retrieved my 12 gauge modified and quickly took out the skunks while standing in the bed of the truck. This is the same 12 gauge Pardner that has killed many rattlesnakes in the past and done great shooting clay pigeons. Now,my Pardner single-shot shotguns are my primary guns wherever I go.Even the 20 gauge Pardner youth model with the 22 inch barrel sits at my bedside loaded with buckshot. The shorter barrel makes it move quickly. The Pardner single-sh... These are perfect for threatened wimps with tiny penises who need a gun to feel like the real man they're not. Well, even with a gun in your hand, if you're a wuss, you're a wuss. Sorry to break the news to you.

A Pardner break-open is the cheapest of entry level shotguns. The positives are that it is hard to break and easy to maintain. The negatives are the heavy recoil and the total lack of features such as screw-in chokes or premium sights. Pardners were about $90 when I started hunting; they are still only about $130.

My wife just bought me a Brand New New England Pardner 12 gauge shotgun for my birthday and I have fallen in love with it. For such a big gun it almost has no kick and is very accurate.

I've only got one gun and it's a 20 gauge Pardner. There is no way I could possibly praise it enough. It is so simple to not only shoot, but to break down to clean as well. This, of course, is if you do much cleaning because, like a weapon as durable as an AK-47, you can throw it in a mud puddle and pour the water out the barrel and it still shoots just as lethally. It is the perfect gun because of it's versatility. By merely changing the shell, which is a simple and quick opening of the breach, you can go from shooting clays to rabbits/squirrels or slugs for deer or targets. It also fits nicely and unobrusively by your bed for personal/home defense too. And all this for a low price at Wal-Mart. Life is great with this gun and I'll never give it up.

The action regularly jams or fails to load a cartridge. Tolerable for hunting due to its low cost, but definitely not a gun that I would rely on in any defensive situation.

I bought a rusty 12 ga. pardner in a pawnshop to refurbish into a trunk gun.I fell in love with this thing! i have browni9ng a5, and remington 870, but this single shot just grabs me.I was ready for that "kic" I keep hearing about, but being I have been shooting 3-1/2 inch turkey loads thru the remington, the pardner feels tame.I like it so much that i'm in the process of duracoating it and redoing the stock.these are the best deals in shotguns which should last a lifetime with a little care.

I have a Pardner 12 Gauge Single Shot Modified from Wal Mart, and the first round of trap shooting with it scored my best round yet. It's light, so you can move it just so slightly faster than an over-under to aim, and shatter those clays each time. I at first had a problem with steel-headed cartridges getting stuck in the chamber but switched to brass and no problems since. The one drawback is the kick. I've been doing martial arts for 7 years and rarely have I come home more bruised than I did from my first round of trap shooting with this. I've named mine "Mule." It doesn't sound creative, but it fits: the shotgun is rugged as a mule, and kicks like one too.

Exellant shooting and about as much recoil as my 4-10 shot gun. Shot slugs through my gun and it was surprisingly accurate at about 40 yards without scope with scope prob about 80 yards.

My 12-Gauge Pardner kicks like a crack-smoking mule, but I'd trust my life with it. I get it all to myself, because no one else can handle the recoil. It just puts a big SMILE on my face! I call it Buford, after the famous sheriff. The NEF Pardner is like that sheriff's infamous club - hits hard, won't break, and makes people nervous.

A Pardner was my first shotgun ever. Now that I own many shotguns and use them for multiple purposes, I can say that the Pardner is the toughest shotgun EVER made. Because it's super inexpensive and ugly, I am not afraid to use it like a hammer or garden shovel. The gun puts up with all the abuse like it never happened. I've put 10,000 +/- rounds of trap shooting alone through it and near that much in the woods or plinking. I've heard about AK's being tough, but I'll tell you that this gun would put a slug right through that stamped piece of junk. After I stepped up to a shotgun with more features (aka, not single shot) I found my self hitting 25 out of 25 in trap just because it felt like the new gun had no recoil. Which brings me to another comment, the pardner will MAN you up to any recoil. In fact my friends and I used to dare each other to shoot Remington 3" Nitro Mags through it. Multiple times I've seen friends not shoulder the shotgun to spare their shoulder from the pa... Read more

I bought my 12 Gauge 10 years ago because it was cheap and reminded me of the shot gun I learned how to shoot with. I've never had any problems with it and have used it for small game, and skeet. Must have gone through several thousand rounds with out a problem. The only point against this firearm is it will kick you into next week. I use a slip on recoil pad from walmart that really helps. Points really good, like a part of your body. It might not be pretty, but safety and function can't be better.

I bought my 12 GA. a few years ago. Hands down it is the best gun for all seasons, and all game. I have went out with guys carrying expensive guns ($300 - $1500), pump-actions ones, fancy pretty guns; all of them fall short to my Pardner. The reasons why are simple, it is a simple, easy, light weight guns that goes the distance. It is easy on the pocket book and easy to take care of. I can tell you after spending a day hunting wild Turkey here in Oklahoma, My buddy was complaining at how heavy his Remingtion 870 was, I never have that problem. In fact I am so excited about this gun, I am buying my daughter a 20 GA version this summer to get her ready for Turkey season come this fall. It is a great gun for beginners, and about the safest gun out there. Like I said those guys with their fancy toys can spend all of their money they want too, I do not have to compete with anyone. I go for value and a good price. If it is a good product I am willing to pay more for it. And that is the beau... Read more

This is my first shotgun, and my only shotgun. There is no kickback on this shotgun, fires like sliding on ice, in other words very easy and im a first time shooter of any type of firearm..... I strongly recommend buying this shotgun, i took it to a shooting range in Long Island for its first test run lets just say 5 range officers 3 hunters tried my shotgun and went to go buy them later, i know this cause the following weekend at the range they all thanked me for the info............

my first gun was a 12 ga. pardner and it is a great gun. it has a very powerful kick but the feeling is great. if you have the right shells this gun is not afraid of killing anything. my shotgun is the best gun i have and the only one i take hunting, its bad when id rater take the smaller simpler one over the bigger more expensive ones. im not trying to say that the pardner is a cheaply made gun, it is just affordable and a great gun to use.

As a lifelong shooter, and owner of every kind of shotgun from Citoris to JC Higgins', I just had to have a single... So I added a Pardner with it's ground schnabel forend to my stable for fifty dollars. I figured it would be a handy light little squirrel gun that could ride around in the Jeep or atv. Soooo, the one and only time I've shot it, was with a mild load to me of an ounce of heavy dove load in a low brass cartridge. My lord I swear it's the kickingest gun I've ever shot. I am considering constructing an allthread, washer, spring combination gizmo to fill the stock hole, and mount a huge slab of recoil tamer to the personal end of this little featherweight monster. I gave her four stars for reliability, safety, weight, compactness, simplicity, and value. If I were to rate it for recoil I would give her a negative ten. Good little gun, but I would recommend a twenty guage as I feel that the 410 is more of an expert's gun if used for anything other than squirrels or rabbi... Read more

When I bought my Pardner 12 Gauge with MOD barrel. I was about 12 or 13 at the time, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Me and my dad went out in the country and I shot it for the first time it was so much fun. What I remember most though was the kick and the mark it left on my arm. But I'll tell ya it was like a right of passage I wore it with pride. Whats so nice about the gun is its light weight, its simple and not difficult to carry around. It does not cost that much but thats not because its a cheap gun its just since its so simple. I think this would make the perfect gun for a kid or a beginner to the world of shooting. The only thing is if your a beginner and your intimidated by a powerful weapon you might want to get a 20 gauge pardner instead or something. Another thing I would recommend is that you get a pad for your arm (which I still need to do) it is kind of fun though the first time to get knocked around. I have shot a variety of guns and I would say this is still o... Read more

I have a 12 mod pardner model. This shotgun is by far the best made single shot shotgun on the market. If you compare it to it's the others you will find that nothing compares. I had my hands on a friends Rossi the other day and what a peice of junk. Once opened you can shake the gun from side to side and see and hear it rattle. My Pardner will not rattle no matter what. The barrel is made much better too. The looks and fit of the Pardner are great for such a low priced gun. Yes it kicks very very hard. A slip on recoil pad for 10 dollars will help alot. I got one at wal-mart and it took the pain out of it. This gun is Cheap to buy and will last much longer than guns costing much more.

This is one of the best shotguns I have ever owned. I had a 12 ga. given to me from a guy I worked with. Since I had 2 shotguns that I already loved I turned my Pardner into a wicked little sawed-off. I cut it so it was 28.5 inches in total length. Like all the others have said, it packs a hell of a punch. I have seen it spin some of my friends around. Overall it is a great gun.

When I bought this shotgun, it came, brand new and shiny, with a bent barrel. Three for three birds flew off to wherever they go after I miss them. I laid a straight edge along one side, then the other, of the barrel. Sure enough, a gap on one side. NEF fixed it free and I have heard even the best shotgons often come with subtly bent barrels but still.... It is my goose/grouse gun and handles heavy loads well. Much lighter to carry on a day's walk in the woods, than my Rem 870 pump gun. If you hold a second shotshell between the index and middle fingers of your left hand [for right handed shooters], I have found you can get a follow up shot on bird #2, just before the end of your range, if you practice. I figured the recoil of 3", T-shot at 60 foot lbs. Yow! A .30-06 with 150 grain bullets hits you with about 18. As long as it hits the ducks and geese harder than it hits me.... :) All in all, worth what I paid. Thanks for listening, David

This is the gun that almost everyone starts out with. At 80 bucks or so the thing is a great bargain. When I was younger my dad got me the 20ga model for Christmas one year as my first hunting gun. It's only a single shot gun, but the quality, simplicity, and reliability of this gun are extradinary for a gun this price. The best starter weapon on the market, and definatley the best bang for your buck ;).

the pardner 12 guage was my first center fire firearm of any kind. i still remember shooting it the first day with the stock plastic recoil pad, i was 12 years old and made quick use of 4 boxs of shells. I had the stock hickeys to prove it too. I still have the gun and it is a great conversation piece as well as an equilizer to take to the shooting range for you recoil cocky friends. with three inch mags it has the same recoil as a 375 h&h. they are are great first gun too, not only because there as safe as you can get, but also because after a couple of seasons with one, you are not really scared of any rifles recoil any more i love it.

I surely miss ole bessie. My NEF single shot 12 gauge was a favorite gun of mine. I'm sad I had to sell it. I remember the first time my shooting buddy fired it...3" magnum rifled slug. His only response was "ouch". It packed a wallop on both ends, and has been the ONLY shotgun I could use to shoot a 3" group with rifled slugs at 100 yards. Wow.
