Lucy Show 4

Not a show i've seen a lot of, but what I have seen I enjoyed. Still without Ricky, it wasn't the same.

I Love Lucy continues...only not well. The idea wasn't that bad and the cast was decent but most people had seen enough of Lucy by then. Just O.K. Gale Gordon did his usual fine job in a supporting role. (Mr. Mooney)

Love all the Lucy shows...she grew up in Jamestown, NY near where I grew up.  Her daugher Lucy and some backers, opened the Lucy & Desi Musium in Jamestown, NY.  If you are ever in the vicinity, check it out...its worth it!  www.lucy-desi.com

The best thing that ever happened to television, these stars from yesteryear should all be able to make a comeback,Lucy was an incredible talent, Ricky Riccardo was her wise cracking Columbian husband, what a pair, those two stole the whole 60's scene. The innocence was so impressive, but that was the way it was, people laughed at such simplicty.

With "The Lucy Show", Lucille Ball was clearly cashing in on past glory (as I also stated with its successor "Here's Lucy" and my review is practically identical). I haven't seen this show in years, but if memory serves, the storylines were repetitive (with Lucy irritating Mr. Mooney every episode) and the series relied on lots of guest appearances. Neither is a good sign of a strong, original show. At this point, Ball had already started to look like an aging athlete who just didn't know when to quit.

After Lucy and Desi broke up, Lucille Ball got her own show. Her role was a widow with two kids. Ethel from the old show lived with her for a while and both were looking for new hubbies. The show changed a lot of characters but ran forever. It was the usually Lucy fun.

I Love Lucy any way and THe Lucy Show held its own but I must agree that the best part of this series were the first three seasons with Season One being the best! Lucy and Viv had an undeniable chemistry and the show jumped the shark when Viv left and they reformatted the show to California. It was still good but not as good as it was during the VIV years. Viv was the best foil for Lucy, no doubt about it.

Lucille Ball was not a bad actress, but this show is highly overrated. When people start saying that it's the greatest invention of all time, That's where I draw the line!

I really enjoyed this show growing up as a kid. Lucy's schemes with Mr. Mooney were so hilarious. I laughed out loud whenever I saw this sitcom. Today, I still enjoy the show as much if not more when I was child. This is such a great 60's sitcom. I recommend everyone to watch it.

I rate Lucy Show great because it is truly great as opposed to a lot of other shows. Of course nothing can match I Love Lucy, but the Lucy Show is the second best Lucille Ball series. Most everyone agrees that the first season black and whites of the Lucy Show were the best (before Mr. Mooney arrived...he started a little after the beginning of the second season. <P> The first season had a LOT of physical humor with lucy and Viv (putting ina shower, putting up a TV antenna, in a Chemistry Lab, Lucy on stilts, etc.). These comprise the first 30 episodes.<P> The second season introduced color and Mr. Mooney joined the cast a few episodes in. His character was conservative and quiet, and the kids kind of started to appear a lot less than in the first season. Ethel Merman was the first big star to appear in the show. The series was still good because she still had her original writers Bob Carroll and Madelyn Pugh/Davis/Martin. However there was a lot less physical humor in the 2nd season.<P> The third season is when the series started to slip. Her original writers were no longer there, and Viv did not appear in every episode. BIG MISTAKE! Whenever Viv appeared, Lucy seemed even better than Lucy going alone. They just had a great chemistry together, like Dick and Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore. And now during the third season, more celebrities appeared and the stories became more far fetched. Even I thought saw seeing the reruns when I was less than 10 years old.<P> And I hated the Lucy Helps someone episodes that were so prevalent in the mid-to-later 60s episodes. The trouble was Lucy had a revolving door of writers who wrote gags instead of character driven comedy. I disliked most of the song and dance episodes too, except for a handful like Main Street USA with Mel Torme. There is a place occasionally for song and dance shows, but this is not what Lucy is most known for.<P> When Viv left the series, at the beginning of the fourth season, Lucy should have left the bank and married a man who worked for Mr. Mooney, and Mooney's previously unseen wife Iram should have appeared and acted like a new Ethel Mertz. The format would have been similar to Lucy's pre-I Love Lucy radio series "My Favorite Husband".

More of a 3.5. I remember liking this show more when I was a kid. Lucille Ball plays a different Lucy and brings along Vivian Vance. They play widows who share a home with their kids. Lucy has a teenage girl and boy and Vivian has a boy the smae age as Lucy's. Gale Gordon is added as Mr. Mooney the temperamental employer of Lucy. She is similar to the I Love lucy, lucy in the way she always gets herself into trouble with "funny" results. Yes sometimes she is funny other times not. A pretty harmless show from the 60s.

"The Lucy Show" is one of the most funniest 1960's sitcoms ever. Lucille Ball without the help of her ex-husband, Desi Arnaz, brings her own humor and slapstick to the show as well as attracting huge celebrities at that time such as Jack Benny, Carol Burnett, Sid Caesar, Joan Crawford, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Bob Hope, Ethel Merman, Ann Sothern, Danny Thomas, John Wayne, Paul Winchell and many others. Her main co-stars, Vivian Vance and Gale Gordon helped bring the show together by demonstrating their own comic abilities as actors. Despite what the actors had to offer, it wouldn't have worked without the excellent writing. Most of writing was believable and done in good taste. The program was meant to be a fun, clean show for everyone to enjoy. It was one of kind during its day and proved to be successful by always staying in the Top 10 most watched shows list. Unfortunately, "The Lucy Show" is very underrated as it stands now in today's age and is constantly in the shadow of "I Love Lucy". Despite its bad points, "The Lucy Show" has a uniqueness to it that stands out from all of the other shows and it gives us one more reason to prove that Lucille Ball was and will always be the greatest comedienne actress ever.

I wish there was a way to indicate that this show jumped the shark!!!!! The Lucy Show is a classic example of a show--and a comedienne--jumping the shark. The program started off well. But when Vivian Vance and the kids left and the setting of the show changed from Connecticut to California, the show sank big time. It then became an excuse for Lucille Ball to be seen with this star or that star. Usually those stars were has-beens--as was Lucille Ball herself. All of the scripts seemed to follow the same format, and the laughter and applause was inserted as if it were canned--I am sure it was canned. Unfortunately, the star-chasing episodes lasted for years, continuing into the "Here's Lucy" show. The audience and network people were responsible in part for the lame shows, as were Lucille Ball and her fellow producers and writers. I don't think too many of them had the guts to stand up and say "Enough!" This person was introduced to Lucille Ball by means of reruns of The Lucy Show. Needless to say, I was not impressed with the star-chasing shows, which did not emphasize comedy but song-and-dance routines. For that reason, I don't think of Lucille Ball as the "queen of comedy" but as the "has-been of all time."

The First couple of seasons of The Lucy Show was every bit as good as I Love Lucy. I wonder how much better it would have been if Desi had stayed on as producer.

This is one show I can honestly watch and love. I laugh my ass off with Lucy this show is VERY GOOD! I have two 5 pack VHS for this show and I watch them ALOT! This is almost as wonderful as I Love Lucy. Lucille Ball, again, proved what a terrific actress she was.

This show was good, but it was made to look like it sucked a lot more being a follow-up to I LOve Lucy. Lucy should have gotten back with DEsi Arnaz and the Mertzes and made more seasons of I LOve Lucy instead of this show.

Lucy's third show (after I Love Lucy & Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour) was quite good, especially the early episodes. The early episodes were quite like I Love Lucy, just without Ricky & Fred. It's another great 60s sitcom!

Not anywhere near as good as I Love Lucy. Lucy was really lacking something without Desi. This show was overacted and ridiculous at times, but Lucy was in it, so at least it was a little entertaining. Got better when they changed it to Here's Lucy and added Lucie and Desi Arnaz Jr.

The Lucy Show was kind of cute, seeing that Lucille Ball is still out there working, but the scripts were way too tired, and the cast was too small, and she just couldn't carry on her own show.
