Amazing motivator and great coach. I will never forget his "Gleam" speech.

Coach Schottenheimer has taken the Chargers to new heights. He is a coach that can get the best out of his players.

GM slip with the Gates suspension cost the playoffs but the team will get a first round bye for the playoffs next year and maybe more

An excellent defensive minded coach. He is far from the best offensive coach, but Marty still manages very well with developing a consistent running game. However, he has never in the past been able to develop consistent recievers or QBs. He is considered by many to be too conservative, but I remember from the many times I've seen him both with the Chargers and the Chiefs that he's went for alot of fourth downs and such, including ones he shouldn't have.

Has had success, but I can't stand him as a coach. Too damn conservative, so uptight in playoff games, just saw that again against the Jets. It's not just bad luck, he's just not a good playoff coach.

would've had the 'skins in the playoffs (superbowl, even?) if dan snyder hadn't ditched marty's stable and sensible game plans for the fun 'n' gun crap of steve spurrier.

Talk about inconsistency and lack of depth in game plan!

"There's a gleam men" You call that motivational? Marty has now taken three teams to the level of mediocrity.

Great regular season coach. His history in the post-season is not as bright. Actually it kind of stinks. Watching the Redskins play 'together' as a team this year makes me realize that if they were to make the playoffs this year, they would really need a good coach for guidance and cohesiveness. I think that he might be able to bring them to the next level (playoffs), but I am skeptical that he will be able to lead them all the way.

How long do you think it will take before Marty regrets taking the job? Without a doubt, he is one of the better coaches over the last 20 years - in the group below Parcells, Gibbs, and Walsh. Sure, he never took the Browns or Chiefs to the Super Bowl, but he enjoyed tremendous success with both teams. His past accomplishments certainly give him credibility with the players. And, as Director of Football Operations, he is able to avoid the friction he felt with Carl Peterson in KC. However, I think he will long for that friction the more he works for Daniel Snyder.
