Even though their coverage of Football has swollowed the show for the most part leaving little time for baseball, NBA and NHL, I love this show. i have watched it for 15 years now.

Might as well be called Entertainment Tonight for Sports. Only focuses on celeb athletes.

ESPN used to be a great network (early 80's - Australian Rules Football, Canadian Football, Billiards, Rodeo, College Hockey, etc) and SportsCenter was a great 30 minutes. Then a politically correct society took over. The freakin' network and show have turned into the rainbow coalition, which is fine, if deserving, but it doesn't appear to be that way...it looks more like a quota system. AAC...Affirmative Action Central. What a joke. The only time that I watch ESPN these days is if a Cubs' game or Titans' game is stuck on ESPN (and I can't catch either on satellite). Plus, the ESPN website is miserable.

They keep it informative, and are always bringing in fresh faces to keep up with the times. Still the best sports news show around. They are the original.

espn has turned the very best of tv sports shows into an unwatchable mess. everything on the show is a gimmck, web gems, top 10 nominee, game shows in the middle of the show. 10 minutes of the show is wasted telling you what's on later in the show. most of the anchors are terrible!
GB4Life 05/02/2005
Whats would we do with out it, I am watching it right now for christ sake
Sixerzfan13 04/03/2005
What show gives you more up to date sports info, and it comes on 100 times a day so you always have a chance to get the latest scoop.

Whenever I travel to the West Coast, I never adjust to the time change and am wide awake by 3:30 AM. Not knowing what's on, I invariably turn on SportsCenter. By the time I leave for my meeting on or about 7:45 AM, I have seen the same reel 4 times. I always found that annoying. SportsCenter is good at what it does; but (as I have often ranted here), they really only show you a glut of home runs, slam dunks, and TD bombs, or other spectacular plays. Often not shown are the double plays, jump shots and defensive stops that were the actual decisive palys that determined the outcome. This has resulted in games (particularly basketball and baseball) evolving the style of play based on SportsCenter. Unless I am on travel, I really do prefer to get my sports from the newspaper, vice SportsCenter.

Still the best. Top 10 plays can be annoying and is usually 15-20 plays. Most of the anchors are good.
Alexg681 01/23/2005
Used to be by far the best sports show but has been polluted by horrible annoying anchors.

Stuart Scott is terr-a-bul as is Stphen A. Smith

I remember when Sportscenter was good. I remember when they aired anchors who not just cared about what they were doing, but made it interesting. I remember when Charlie Steiner and Chris Berman and Dan Patrick and everyone who has moved on or up at ESPN did it daily. Now, Stuart Scott and Linda Cohn are the only good anchors left. no more Kenny Mayne. No more Rich Eisen. No more Bob Ley. Sportscenter instead gives be John Anderson who is terrible. I want the scores and a joke or two. Make it interesting. Don't overdo it and make it stupid. And give me variety. When Funny Cide won the Derby, it took 22 minutes for them to comment on it. Instead, they showed me the entire Mike Price dismissal conference. Then they showed fragments of the race. The Breeders' Cup was not mentioned this year, but UTEP football was (Mike Price again). I get a minute of highlights each year when then-#1 Duke wins 122-59 over some team from the Big South and just the scores from the finals of the Tennis Masters Series championship. I want to know it all. Yes, you can give me more football than field hockey, but at least mention the national champ because someone out there might care. They used to show it all, now they don't even tell me who wins the title in NCAA Division I Volleyball (womens). Instead, I get 30 seconds on 6-19 L.A. Clippers @ 9-17 Orlando. Enough already. And get good announcers.

I used to watch Sportscenter religiously, but that was when they had funny intelligible anchors, not stupid unfunny idiots. I also think they should show a little more respect to other sports, mainly Hockey, Basketball dominates ESPN in the winter and even in to the summer it makes me ill. This past summer a Sportscenter headline and the first 15 minutes of the show was about who should coach the Lakers this year. WHO GIVES A DAMN!!!!!! Get your priorities straight and start covering sports again instead of turning into MTV for jocks.

The standard by which the others are judged.

If you think the catchphrases detract from SC, then you've got problems. It covers sports in an entertaining way, even on boring sports. It's informitive, although it tends to harp on some things too much.
raclos234 09/04/2004
IMO sc was at its peak a few years ago when everyone wasnt trying to be so humorous while reporting sports like the do now (but on the espn show dreamjob the contestants were looked down upon for trying to be like a 'typical' sc anchor). now theyve got too many anchors and reporters u can hardly keep track of. its the WWE/WWE version of sports shows now.
mike12 07/10/2004
One of the best sports shows for news.
martinema 07/10/2004
one of the best sport news shows.

I hate Stuart Scott. Enough boo-yahs already. If I need sports news I'll watch ESPN News without all the hype, thank you.

ESPN = Excruciatingly Sarcastic Puerile Nonsense! I now refuse to watch. SportsCenter has lost me with its smugness and devotion to minutia. Among other things, it has gotten to the point where ESPN's research is too detailed and painstaking to consume. I feel betrayed and embarrassed when they roll out yet another meaningless statistic. Yet, behind the scenes, you just know some brain-fried intern is getting patted on the fanny, hailed as Prometheus, for discovering a terrific factoid. They used to run a Did Ya Know? at the close. Fine. Now, the whole broadcast has Did Ya Knows buried at every turn. Enough! It shows they're fat, getting fatter, and are only interested in amusing themselves in Bristol, CT. The pencil-necks at SportsCenter lead me to conclude that the audience they're really trying to impress is actually the pro athletes, on whom ESPN rely for its life-giving interviews and other infernal content. To me, it is a horrifying problem that so many people are there to listen when an athlete opens his mouth. Is there anything less meaningful than what an athlete SAYS? It's fine if you let them compete, record it for playback if you must, but please, oh please, then make them go away in silence! ESPN's grating on-air talent is always scaling new heights of sarcasm, egotism and one-upmanship among peers. And they all seem to speak with the urgency of bullies who believe the most forceful speakers are the only ones worthy to be heard. (I do realize it is now imperative on any network, not just ESPN, to be a loudmouth if you're going to do sports.) As for the highlight packages, SportsCenter does a competent job rehashing the day's events. But when, when, when are thoughtful people going to realize that they've seen it all before already? Just how many runs from scrimmage, passes, kicks, runbacks, dunks, 3-pointers, assists, batted balls, 4-3 putouts, et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseum do you need to see in a lifetime before you realize you have indeed seen it ALL countless times before?! I'm sure to be lonely in my comments. So be it. Go ahead and watch yourselves into oblivion!
Dawn4Bama 07/04/2003
What would we do without SportsCenter?! Be forced to watch the world's strongest man competition until football season starts, that's what. Rome Is Burning should be on this list too, what a great show.
reeny 06/06/2003
The best sports show ever. They have the best hosts, excellent detailed play by play. Nobody does highlights like sportscenter. They are not to be outdone.
CanadaSucks 05/31/2003
It is starting to slip a little. . .just give me the sports and highlights. . .I don't care about dumb sh#$ like the "budweiser hot seat" and stop with the ridiculous sports-reality shows. ESPN ought to know better. But SPORTSCENTER is still must-see TV.
jimoc 05/27/2003
Would be a 5 if not for the attempted "jive talkin".
jackblack35 05/27/2003
great show..where we would be without our Sportscenter!..just get rid of Stuart Scott please!
