The biggest race on the Australian calendar, this is a tough go, with horses running close to 2 miles. It has stopped many a great horse and it has been the making of a few more. Most notably Phar Lap, who won the race in 1930 carrying 61.5 kilograms. Arguably one of the greatest horses of all time, the Red Terror blew his opponents away while carrying outrageous weight.
