The white, female George Jefferson. Spun off from All in the Family also.
axaxe2 03/18/2007
I thought this show was hilarious. While I disagree entirely with the character Maude's extremely liberal politics, she was a riot with her hypocrisy and nastiness. Yes, I must agree Adrienne Barbeau's sexiness was the icing on the cake!!!
disgust4PCness 11/08/2006
Perhaps the most annoying theme song in TV history.
Diedre 06/17/2006
Back then, this was a show that made you laugh out loud. Bea's saracasm and the cutting edge topics made it good. They should rerun it.
X Factor Z 03/17/2006
Not that bad but everyone knows that Bea and Rue's other show was far superior in quality to this one. Yet by today's standards of network garbage it was actually not too bad.
edt4 02/09/2006
I haven't seen this show since it went off the air many years ago, so my perceptions of it may not be totally accurate, but I remember that I found it generally hilarious when it was on, and, yeah, Adrienne Barbeau wasn't hard on the eyes either. I wish they'd re-run it now, instead of all-day, all-week marathons of "Good Times."

Somewhere on the skale of the most hated and loathsome things'say somewhere between Satan and Adolf Hitler then theres Maude. If only they Made A show with Don Rickles and Bea Arthur and they could give birth to Adam Sandlers Little Niki.It could be called Cpo Satan.Or if they Matched Bea Arthur with George Jefferson they could give birth to saaay Al Sharpton.Let me guess:The father of this show was,Norman Lear.Enough said.I think just remembering this show existed has made me lose the will to live.
Molfan 09/23/2005
I would give this about a 2.5. the actors were good in this. but this had to be one of the most mean spirited shows I had seen.Maude always seemed so angry and she was so nasty to people. It just seemed like most of the show was filled with insults.
irishgit 03/25/2005
Checking out Adrienne Barbeau's chest was the best part of this garbage.
stevek 01/28/2005
Maude was ahead of her time. I loved the show but some here said that Maude was Arch9ies cousin when in fact she was Ediths

Bea Arthur was very good at playing the role of a tough, liberated woman back before it was fashionable. The supporting cast was excellent. They broke many taboos, and Adrian Barbeau was a H O T T I E !!!

I can Find some of this show entertaining
TVAfficianado 03/13/2004
FIRST OFF, THE ABORTION TWO-PARTER WAS AIRED THE FIRST SEASON - 1972 [A WHOLE YEAR BEFORE 'ROE VS. WADE' - TALK ABOUT SOCIALLY RELEVANT HUMOR!]. 'MAUDE' FINISHED IN THE TOP TEN ALL OF ITS FIRST 4 SEASONS. SO MUCH FOR USING THE ABORTION ISSUE AS A 'PLOY' TO LIFT 'SAGGING' RATINGS. THAT BEING SAID, MAUDE WAS TV FOR ADULTS. ISSUES WERE RAISED AND DEALT WITH FOR A CHANGE. BEA ARTHUR WAS SUPERB. IT WAS AN EXTREMELY WELL WRITTEN FUNNY SHOW. AND, TO HER CREDIT, WHEN THE SHOW SHOWED SIGNS OF AGING IN ITS LAST SEASON, CBS AND NORMAN LEAR WANTED HER CHARACTER TO BECOME A SENATOR AND MOVE THE SHOW TO WASH DC. BUT BEA HAD THE GOOD SENSE TO BOW OUT GRACEFULLY. SHE'S HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CLASS ACT. RIGHT ON, MAUDE!
Moosekarloff 04/28/2003
A shrill, nasty show about a dried-up old witch. About as entertaining as waiting for a bus. The only time it was worth one's attention was when Adrienne Barbeau's D-cups would take up most of the frame. And that wasn't often enough.
Joan Cartwright 02/04/2003
and then there's applause.

Adrienne Barbeau! Enough said-- she was in it, it was a great watch.
Fredwah 12/14/2002
I gave it a one only because zero and negatives weren't options. This show stunk, and when they were plummeting in the ratings, the writers had Maude have an abortion to see if they couyld get the ratings back up. The pits.
SoSingular 11/06/2002
I would give Maude 4 stars, but you guys and gals are just plain unfair. This show was a riot, and it was extremely brave in how it approached issues. Also, Bea Arthur, like Valerie Harper and Lucille Ball, is an American icon and a genius at comedy. Nonetheless, I respect your opinions.
lukskywlkr. 11/01/2002
I always enjoyed this show, for whatever reason. I guess I didn't mind her constant griping and meddling. When you have it in your own home, it's good to see that someone else has to put up with it I guess.
Tiffanywelles 09/07/2002
Bea Arthur is a genius.Fabulous theme song. But Carol should have been arrested for child abuse. Was that kid of hers ever allowed out of his room?
ClassicMusicLo ver 09/06/2002
Between Maude and the Jeffersons, I prefered the Jeffersons
cattleannie 08/25/2002
I hated this show!! see all the negitive ratings and add mine to them.
radiogman 08/15/2002
Classic TV - Bea Arthur is fantastic.
Quincy 06/27/2002
Maude is an underappreciated true classic, and was the only show to watch on Tuesday night. Nobody even remembers Temperatures Rising, c'mon!
Joey1963 06/13/2002
I gave it a 3 because of Beatrice Arthur. It really wasn't that great...I think the idea of Norman Lear turning Maude into a female Archie Bunker just didn't work. I don't think people liked that character much...she came across more hard edged...just not nice. Although the acting could be over the top...it wasn't that bad.
LoneUSFullHous eFan 04/10/2002
The Jeffersons was a far better spin off.
Solenoid DH 02/21/2002
Few people have managed to be as obnoxious, and only Rosanne could be worse. I've heard a rumor that this show was meant to be a comedy.
Errol 02/14/2002
Same old Norman Lear plate of beans (see All In The Family), although this one may be the worst.
Texx 11/23/2001
Bottom of the list? God'll get you for that. Bea was great in her roll but the show lacked a capable match to balance her out once Esther Rolle left. Conrad was terrible and Macy was just annoying. It's interesting to see Bea and Rue developing chemistry together long before Golden Girls. The John Wayne episode should be viewed for its novelty if nothing else.
callmetootie 10/05/2001
Maude is a fine sitcom, she can be good and bad.
CastleBee 06/29/2001
I don't care how many trails she was trying to blaze through the 70's TV wasteland any more than I care why she was doing it. None of that changes the fact that, when all is said and done, Maude was just a plain old garden-variety, unhappy, domineering witch with a capital B. You have to admit Bea Arthur did an excellent job bringing her to life but it still left you with the question - for what possible reason did we need this perpetually PO'd gray haired harridan in our homes each week? Regardless of whether or not you agreed with whatever point du jour they were trying drive home to the "unwashed masses" that evening (an underlying attitude I found arrogant to the extreme), it didn't take long before you were ready to scream and/or pop a nerve pill. There are just too many better ways to waste time.
NotEbbert 03/17/2001
Folks, you got to remember when this show aired and who it appealed to. Many women of the WWII generation who applauded Maude's humor and courage to speak up for herself and other women. I didn't understand this myself until my Ma pointed this out to me. Made me look at it differently...it was also fun to watch Adreinne Barbeau walk down the stairs...
chuckybrown 02/22/2001
The highlight of this show was when it was cancelled.
Kris Kristofferson 02/18/2001
Just the commercials from TV Land alone were enough to make someone hate this show. MOYDD. Very annoying show.
olivertwist90 02/18/2001
Maude: I don't know what was worse her face, voice, or this terrible show. I would rather watch Wild Kingdom.
QT Dragon Grl 01/26/2001
