 | seanistheboom (0) 08/06/2008 | i think wating on line for all the rides there are worth the wait excpt for rolling thunder.it broke dow so many times in one day. it is the oldest ride there congo rapids does not smell like sewage on your skin. i been on that ride hundreds of times and the water did not smell bad. i would rather go on congo rapids the the dark night. they took down the chiller and a water ride to put it up. with the go carts you have to pay for it. if you hit a nother cart they threten to throw you off. kingdo ka is a fun ride but the wait for it is to long. el toro is also fun but breaks down a lot to. i went tere in april when i got my season pass this year we waited 2 hours for it. once when ye get to the front of the line it brakes down for abot an hour.all the other rides there are fun and dont brake down alot. i thinkit is best to go i the rain.

 | peachy13 (0) 05/27/2008 | Possibly the worst theme park in the tri-state area. I arrived at 10:30am, stayed until 6pm and rode 2 rides. The newest ride, Dark Knight, was a 2 hour-line, totally hyped up, and was the biggest let down. It was basically 7 U-turns in a row. And that was it. Next, I waited 1.5 hours for Nitro, and thoroughly enjoyed that. I waited for another 2 hours for El Toro while watching the ride stop 4-5 times because of "technical difficulties." I ate the most expensive wrap from Carnegie Deli that tasted like sandpaper and old socks. To cool off from the heat, my friends and I decided to go on a water ride. We lined up for Congo Rapids for another 2 hours and after getting soaked, realized the water smelled like sewage on your skin. It was absolutely disgusting. To top it all off, on the way out, a Six Flags employee agreed to take a group picture for us by the fountain and after taking it, threw the camera on the floor 'by accident.' Six Flags, you get NO FLAGS from me.

 | Eastgsd (4) 08/28/2005 | I have worked at this park for a total of 11 seasons and left in Dec 2004 for a full time job somewhere else. I have to admit that visually the park looks better than it ever has in my lifetime this year. The flowers, clean up and painting that went on in the last two years is paying off.
Ok, things good about this park: it is huge, there are many rides for many different ages, likes etc., the atmosphere is getting better this year and there have been tons of families present. It is a must visit amusement park in my opinion.
Things that are not so good:
Linecutters (this is a deepseeded problem in the industry in general, it is hard to combat and hard to get rid of, hang in there when it happens, call security and be willing to follow through with your part)
Waiting in lines (go on off days, try to choose days with overcast or call for rain, do not go on weekends, go the first weekend of Fright Fest if you want to attend this festival)
Prices of food (this is common to the entertainment industry, easy ways to combat...bring a bag lunch and store in lockers or car ourside the gates, get a handstamp and go down the road for lunch and come back....or get the fried chicken dinner for families at Granny's, best value in the park)
Some employees (the park has trouble keeping staffing levels up due to the majority of the workforce being college students who do not arrive until june and leave late August.....due to staffing levels some staff gets stressed out with busy, long days......combat this by being polite, trying to be patient and calm and realize that kid standing in front of you listening does not own the park he/she only works there)
Parking lot (they redid the traffic pattern....its bad, really bad lol.....try to carpool as much as possible to save on parking fees, gas and aggrivation.)

 | edt4 (110) 06/28/2005 | I've been to this place only once or twice in my life, but found it distasteful each time. Maybe my experience was adversely colored by my childhood memories of Palisades Park, but it seemed I spent 80% of my time waiting on line in the hot sun. I don't remember the rides I did go on as anything spectacular, and everything was way, WAY overpriced. I don't know how the passage of time has affected things, but I can't imagine its gotten any better. Also, I despise the TV commercial with that repellent old man.

 | lynn1 (0) 06/04/2005 | Great adventures is not that bad if you're bored on a saturday and just want to hang out. I just dont think that its as good as it use to be because its always overly crowded and, unfortunately a lot of the crowd is way too rowdy. I'd rather take a 5hr trip to Bush Gardens in Virgina.

 | texasyankee (22) 04/24/2005 | Been here a lot. Great memories here, will be rated highly because of that. Same typical rides you find at any Six Flags, good place to go if you can't afford disney world/land, it's good enough for a mini-vacation.

 | Medusa1861 (0) 07/08/2003 | WARNING! REMEMBER this it will totally ruin your day. There ARE people who cut in line. ALOT! They use the same excuse that they have some person up there saving their place, which is against park rules in the first place. They have no security to watch. Don't let it bother you. The park is wedged right between New York City and Philidelphia, so you have all the city kids who think they own the park or somthing and might create a scene.
So dwon to rides. Ride wise. One of teh BEST parks EVER! Medusa, Relaly great B&M floorless, smooth... first floorless coaster ever.
When you enetre the park you will Notice Great American Scream Machine. Some people like it some people don't, i say ride it.
The otehr ide you will see if Superman: Ultimate Flight. B&M flyer, smooth really good. But being it new for the 2003 season. It has 2 hour wait. So ride it last in the park. So you won't spend all day waiting for only a pretty good ride.
Batman & Robin: The Chiller...my favorite coaster. Duel Tracked Launcher. 0-70 in 3 seconds. They will not duel, or race because of the amount of power it consumes. The first time they launched them simultaneously, There was a blackout in half of New Jersey. But really good ride altogether. It's got lapbars, so just if you are afraid about restraints. It has only lapbars. It's really safe though.. And safer then it was because now you don't hit your head against the restraint.
Nitro... Most peopel's favorite. a 230 foot high B&M Speed Coaster. Rated the 4th best coaster in the world. When you ride, you HAVE to sit in the front seat. It's just a must do... all the otehr seats are very lame. The wait for the front goes by FAST!
Batman the ride. Very good coaster. But you can never tell the wait since it's hidden.
For family. they have 3 nice coasters.. Skull Mountain. In the park (sorta) coaster. Runnaway Train, one of the best Mine Train coasters. And Rolling Thunder. Really fun ride. Feels like your going to fall ou, but your not, perfectly safe. They also have a great flat ride collection including Stuntman's freefall, one of the best. Jumping Jack flash which has been reported to be open lately. And Twister. The park has been overtaken by gum, but tehy've been on top of that problem recently. It got REALLY better this year. And please.. throw your trash away and spit your gum out in the garbage cans..not on teh walls.. its' really disgusting. It's very worth it. I gave it a 4 and not a 5 because of the people who go there.

 | michael_arbor (1) 01/25/2001 | I had a great time at this place. In between my freshman and sophomre years at college, I was a camp counselor at this camp in the Poconos, PA. I had the 9 & 10 year olds and my best friend there had the 7 & 8 year old kids. When the big field trips were announced, we were on opposite sides of the spectrum. He went to some water park that turned out to be for kids up to the age of 6 years old, so there were just a ton of little pools filled with urine for him. I, on the other hand, was sent to chaperone about twenty 9 & 10 year old boys and girls (along with a couple of other counselors) at Great Adventure. Got to the park, broke off with a counselor from Wales, UK and pulled like 6 or 7 of the kids that we knew would be adventurous (and were tall enough to go on all of the rides). The other couselors had kind of the whiny kids that needed to be taken care of and babysat. Well, it was a beuatiful day, tons of great rides, great water tides - I remember one where you almost go straight down this water chute and at the start of it your body is not even making contact with the slide and some huge lagoon type of place where you could jump off of this cliff-type of ledge. The kids had a blast and they treated is well, which made the time that much better. It was also great to get out of the camp for a day. Ate tons of park food since we were given an amount of $$ to buy food for the day. Great park - I remember that there was a lot of 'dangerous' stuff to do there. Stuff that I was surprised that they let you do and that could be considered high risk. That may have changed over the past 10 years with lawsuits and all, I am not sure.

 | PoorOldEdgarDerby (4) 01/25/2001 | Six Flags in general are pretty hard to beat in terms of mind numbingly fast and thrilling rides. I've been to the one in Jersey a couple of times and not only have I never left disappointed but I didn't even have a chance to ride everything in one go around! The Free Fall ride, though only a few seconds in duration, still creeps me out just thinking about it. The last time I went I had a friend with me who had never been on the Free Fall before and I had assured her that it was no big deal. In my mind I truly rememebered it as not being so bad. Anyway we get strapped in and it's taking us up to top and suddenly it all came rushing back to me...the fear, the weightless feeling, the moment where you can't speak for about 3 seconds and you just feel like "oh god please just let me get out of this, why oh why did I do this etc.etc." So I turn to her when we reach the top and the bells are going off (they sound three or four bells as it slides you to the edge just before a red launch light flashes with a final buzzer and releases you. I turn to her and I say "oh my god Ruth I just remembered this actually is pretty scary!" I, honestly, was nervous and not just saying it to freak her out but looking back I wish I could say I'd planned it because she just had this sudden dead pan look on her face and then BEEEEEEP we were gone. Gotta stop at Six Flags..just gotta.
