What I want to do with my nose is my own business. And children should pick their nose and eat it, it makes them sick which builds up essential immunities. Read that one in a magazine at the doctors office.

It's interesting that you always seem to pull up beside someone at a stop light, look over at them, and see them digging away. It's like, "next time, buy a car with tinted windows, jag-off.

I'm with Last on this one - picking is one thing (though still a bit stomach churning if seen), but eating is on a whole other level of "bad".

Picking nose is not as bad as picking and eating it...that's nausiating!

I can understand if you're 3 and don't really understand what you're doing anyway , but this is really nasty, and the only adult who should be doing this is Booger from Revenge of the Nerds.

There's a funny story of James Cagney driving down Sunset Boulevard and pulling up alongside Humphrey Bogart at the stoplight. Bogie was digging away for treasure, oblivious to all else. Cagney wrote a little poem about the incident and sent it on to Bogie, who reportedly was not amused.

Funny thing; you don't have to go to Alaska or California to find people digging for gold. You can find them waiting at the red light, digging for gold.

I always have had a habit of picking my nose. I try to wait until break so I can go in the bathroom to pick, but sometimes I can't help it. My nose always has boogers in it. Eh.

The interesting thing about it is that people seem to love to do it at intersections while the light is red. Why is that?

Give me a break! You know you all do it from time to time. How else are you gonna get all that crap that's stuck to the back of your nostrils? Just do it discreetly and be sure to wash up immediately afterwards. People who dig in public are disgusting. There should be a law against this. And anyone that works around food and is caught picking their nose should be fired. That's exactly why I prepare my own meals. People are too nasty. Anyone with class and good breeding would not be caught dead picking their noses in public. I know I have class - that's why I just finished picking mine in the privacy of my bathroom.:) Feel's great!!

When I was a senior in high school there was a girl who sat in the very front row, right in the center of the classroom. Everyday she had her finger jammed up her nose. Sooner or later, she'd take it out, wipe it on her shirt, in her hair, once under her skirt (NO JOKE!). It was disgusting. It would make these juicy sounds ... ugh. So gross. After I graduated I went to Taco Bell one day only to find her working there. Needless to say, I never ate there again.

If you can pick your nose with your elbow, then it's ok.

While I think the habit can be quite gross depending on the severity of it, I think sometimes it is necessary. But it should be done privately to where no one can see ya diggin'!

Pre-schoolers have this down to an art form. I always intervene, especially when they are about to eat their treasure. They love doing this, hoping maybe to find a ruby, pearl or M&M one of these times. Nothing is taboo to a three year old, with maybe the exception of saying butt or fart repeatedly.

Yes! Hey, its fine when your alone, im guilty of that. But in public, its really gross to see. I just had a last round interview at an insurance place and this guy, head of the department I would work in, at first brushes his nose (and now I'm thinking of the Seinfeld episode) and then fully puts his finger up his nose. Keeping serious eye contact in that position is one tough gig!

I think nose picking is an essential habit - I admit, I don't like it when people do it in public though as it doesn't take much to wait to get to a bathroom and sort it out there. Lets face it, there is nothing worse than having a blocked up nose that can be quickly sorted out by a quick delve. London is a pretty polluted city when you are in the centre and I would rather pick my nose in private than have a mass of black snot up my nose......

i don't know anyone with the habit, but EVERYONE does it. Sometimes it feels so good.

I could go on about how disgusting this is, and how we all do it and so on. But what I would like to know is, when I've caught people who didn't know anyone was around, picking their noses, they always look at their fingers to see what came out. I mean, shouldn't you be pretty familiar with what's coming out by now? Are you expecting a surprise maybe? I mean, pick it and be done with it but don't keep looking at it. That's like staring at the turds in your commode or something.

This extremely "yucky" habit is distressingly becoming more and more common, where it was less seen than it was ten years ago. They have hankies and tissues for a reason, you know? It looks as dumb as a cigarette up the nose (or in the mouth) and is plain gross. Perhaps a device that breaks up these deposits can be invented soon.

Nose-picking is pretty gross. The funny thing is that most people indulge in it and of course they won't admit to it. If it must be done do it out of the view of others.

The art of nose picking is as old as the nose itself, I suppose. The nose is a biological tool to filter the air we breath. Therefore, like any filtering system, it must be cleaned out of its collected debris. The nose is also an outlet for expelling internal waste, especially during colds and flues. So, it serves as a microbial trash can, which, of course, must be emptied. Proper breathing requires a clear passage, therefore, obstructions should be removed. The dilemma becomes how to take care of business in the most socially and hygienically way, thereby, the 'yoga of nose picking' becomes an issue for all of us. Here are some points of advice... Picking the nose in public is impolite and disrespectful to others. Having a tissue on hand helps in cleanliness. In fact, one can place the tissue over the picking finger before cleaning. Also, if possible, blowing the buggers out and into a trash can is sometimes effective. But, one must not blow to hard for there is a danger to the ears. Washing the hands after a session of picking is recommended. However we feel about nose picking, we know that we all do it because it's necessary.

i don't mind nose picking so much. Is it gross. maybe. but sometimes watching people eat in a restaurant is just as sick. The world is too uptight. i say if you got a booger, go in and get it. no point walking around all day w/it jammed in yr nose, making yr nose itch, and you wishing that you'd just picked it before you went outside to face the fragile and easily offendable public. while yr at it--scratch yr ass. men, scratch yr balls and women, if IT itches, get it too. there's no big deal to picking boogers as i see. but if yr gonna eat them,as well, at least do that alone. oh, and as for those who watch people pick their nose in a car, i suggest bringing along a tape or cd that you really like, maybe a magazine for those red lights, so that you arent eavesdropping in someone else's car.

OH Shroomwoman you are TOO funny! And absolutely right on the money IMO. To be honest we’ve probably all known times when a good “house cleaning” was the only way to get a breath of air...a condition often occuring in the dry winter months that I have heard called "booger compaction". But, even if you are struck with this affliction, it can still be treated in a civilized way. As with any other occasionally necessary evil it should, of course, be done only in the privacy of your home (preferably the BATHROOM)and WITH TISSUES. Trust people when they tell you this is one experience that does not need to be shared with friends, family and strangers.

There is no doubt that nose-picking is one of the most disgusting habits out there. It's horrifying to see someone in the act of nose-picking, and it's certainly unhygienic. What surprises me is the number of adults who nose-pick in public. (I've noted that when men are in their cars, they are more likely to indulge.) I can't decide if they think other people can't see them doing it or if they don't care that they're being observed. Either way, it is the ultimate in barbaric behavior.
