I disagree with most reviewers. I Like! my females popping gum. I always have. More gum poppin, more sassiness, I encourage my female partners to pop! Some can do multiple pops, that's a bonus! Add Patent leather apparel & we are on our way!

it has controlled my life since 6th grade. i never understood why. i try to be very secretive about it. and i've defiantly had to buy earplugs. i just hate having to always put them in. it's unfair.

I've asked a few people to stop when I couldn't take it anymore (in class, friends) and each of them has stopped immediately and looked embarrassed. (I'd be embarrassed too, but hey, better learn it now than embarrass yourself for the rest of your life!) All you have to do is ask and you improve the manners of someone who may not even know it's not polite. (and get a little peace for yourself)

To everyone bothered by gum chewing, popping and other annoying habits: Get a pair of foam earplugs - in fact, go to a hardware or tool store and you will find pairs of yellow foam earplugs for about 49cents per pair. Grab about 20 pairs of them and stash them for later use. These disposable, soft ear plugs are wonderful for sleeping with someone who snores, sleeping through the dog barking next door, sitting in a class taking a test while the person next to you is eating corn nuts, going to the movies, sitting in a meeting next to someone who is chewing gum. I keep at least one pair in my purse, another pair in my car, a pair next to my bed and a pair hidden in the kitchen. If someone is rude, I just put a pair of earplugs in while they aren't looking - problem solved. You can hear a movie through the earplugs - they don't muffle out all sound - but they reduce an irritating sound down to nothing. You can sit and have a complete conversation and hear everything said, but you ju... Read more

My cubemate used to make me want to bang the wall over and smush her because she popped her gum at least every few seconds. She had one of those eclipse jugs of gum so everytime I heard her open it I would groan and started cursing profanities. She already sounds like an obnoxious flight attendant and to add that horrible habit on top, made me resent her and cringe everytime I saw her. Yes, it was that bad. My friend used to tell me to confront her about it, but I didn't want to create any drama at work. So a few months passed then I finally had enough. My friend helped me write a "friendly" email to her telling her that I enjoy being her cube mate (yea right) but the gum popping irritates me and is distracting. I didn't want to burn bridges but it was worth it in the long run because she completely stopped. She claimed that she didn't realize she did it as often as she did. I am not a confrontational person but it paid off in the end. Note to everyone else that has to deal with this e... Read more

This by far has to be one of the most disgusting and annoying habits anyone can have. I sit next to a disgusting gum smacker at work, I hear them on the bus, and I live with one of the worst gum smackers on the planet. I even have a friend who does it during movies at the theater. I wish, for this one thing, they would revive those 1950s etiquette films and educate the masses on how repulsive they make themselves by doing this.

There is an obnoxious women in my office that smacks and pops her gum all day long. She is so unprofessional as we are on the phone all day long and she continues while speaking to people. There should be a way to punish this person.

I spent 15 minutes on the subway, next to a surly teen who smacked her gum the entire time.  I am now proctoring an exam where this student is smacking her gum loudly.  Gum smacking makes me want to murder someone.  It totally sets me on edge.  I might go crazy right now.

it is a very annoying trait for anyone to have, what makes it worse is when they try to justify it by claiming they cant breath without smacking their gum.

I'm Black, so I can say this: From my experience and observation Black women are the worse offenders of gum popping/smacking. If gum popping was an Olympic sport, Black women would run away with the gold medal. Ladies, please stop--it's a nasty, unattractive habit, and totally unacceptable in the workplace. Why perpetuate another negative stereotype about Black women as if we don't have enough. If you can't chew gum without making obscene noises than don't! P.S. If you live or will be moving to the DC area and have to use public transportation, an IPOD is a must!

Popping and smacking gum is rude and inconsiderate, not to mention very irritating. It reminds me of a cow grazing out in the pasture.

I have the perfect payback. When my co-worker starts popping and smacking that gum, I put on an annoying CD that I know she hates and play it over and over and over.... bonus - I can't hear her smack anymore either!

The person now sitting across from me in my office pops their gum for hours on end every day. It's driving me insane and making it very difficult to focus on my work. I have tried ignoring it and drowning out the sound with earphones and loud music, but I hear her annoying popping and cracking no matter what. I am a very easygoing, tolerant person in general, but this is one thing I just cannot stand. To make matters worse, I can't think of any tactful, comfortable way of approaching her to ask her to please stop it. I am forced to either keep putting up with it (and getting angrier and more stressed out by the day), say something to her manager about it in the hope that others have also voiced some complaints, or ask to be transferred out of my department. It's very hard for me to believe that people who do this have no clue how rude, annoying and distracting their behavior is.

It is not the worst habit I know of. It can be annoying if I am directly within earshot I cannot get away so I have to listen to it. I do not think the gum popper is even aware that they are doing it.

I think gum chewing/popping is the most annoying thing. I think that it is a trait passed down from parenting. My parents brought me up just fine. At work it drives you insane every 4 seconds on every hour. Someone else said it best, it is unprofessional in the workplace.

Nasty. In high school there was a girl that sat right behind me in math class and every day she would by munching her gum and I just wanted to scream sometimes. We worked together as well through high school and some of college. Well I was her manager at Blockbuster and I finally, at least at work, got to put an end to her gum munching. Eeewwwww! I can still hear that munching, her spit slopping around. Disgusting.

The gum chewing girl and the cud chewing cow Are so alike, yet differ somehow. Ah yes, I see it now! It's the intelligent look on the face of the cow! Gum chewing is so disgusting to me that I can hardly think straight. It's mindless! I don't want to see your food when you chew, what makes you think I want to see your gum, much less here you from a mile away?! Hearing/seeing someone chew gum is pure torture...hope I don't go to hell! Funny that it took me so long to find this place...check out my website at www.GumIsGross.com

Chicago's newspaper and ballpark came from chewing gum - to my great dismay. Whenever I get gummed to a warm sidewalk I wish I could find Old Man Wrigley and the son of a bitch who spit out the gum - I'd make them both remove every blob of used gum from all the nations' sidewalks with their bare fingers. Picking noses and chewing gum are increasing - our society is doomed!

A convenient way for tv/film directors to instantly make someone appear vacant. It annoys me more than anything. I don't want to listen to people eat/smack their food, why would I want to listen to them clacking their gum? There is no polite way to address this issue with offenders. I have come to realize I am not alone in my battle against gum, but it never ceases to amaze me that the people who do chew it are surprised when we find it offensive! My friends, who chew, seem to value me more than their gum and will not chew it in my presence. Those who do not, quickly remove themselves from the friend category. I am continually chagrined that it is tolerated in the workplace. There have been many times when have I called a colleague in another department only to hear her smacking in my ear? It is completely unprofessional and is only a piece of what I consider to be a downward spiral in the quality of the workplace. Gum smacking - it's not just in McDonald's anymore! ... Read more

It's horrendous. I think most of the people that do it are trying to look cool and piss people around them off as well. These 2 women I work with have cubicles near me and although when they do it I display no reaction, I don't talk with them much and I'm sure they do it to annoy me. Positive! Those people that do that are usually bullies too.

I have to admit, I'm guilty of this one. I usually don't realize I'm doing it until a friend looks at me like I'm going to rip that out of your mouth if you don't quit. I try to refrain from gum-chewing at work and such, especially if I'm nervous, when it is the worst. So, for all those that I may have annoyed to frustration, sorry :)

I can't believe that people who pop their gum (you know, that open mouth loud pop) think they aren't disturbing other people. Not EVERYone enjoys hearing that noise. I think it is very rude and inconsiderate. Makes them seem very conceited...and I suppose the majority of them are. Please people, keep your gum popping to yourself. At least close your mouth when you chew your gum...!

This is something that makes my spine rattle. It is definitely a pet peeve. We were going on a trip to an amusement park and my friend's father (they came along with us) went into a gas station to get some cigarettes and the whole time he was inside the store, my friend sat there, smacking her gum. I could barely contain myself. I'm glad I did though because if I hadn't I would have lashed out on her....physically. LOL..

I may be looked at as a crazy guy but GUM SMACKING is a major turn on for me. When I am on the bus, in the store, or in line and a woman starts smacking her gum i get so turned on I wish I had a MD recorder so I can grab that sound and take it home with me. And you know what will happen at home!!! So send me your gum poping wav. files can't wait to here it.

Not the worst thing here, and I don't care if it's done out in loud public places . . . just, in the middle of class, when you're taking a test, and all you hear is *smack, smack, smack* along with the rhythm of the clock, it can drive one insane. Usually, though, not a big deal.

I don't have a problem with people who chew gum, but if you chew it with your mouth open, either learn to chew with your mouth closed, or stop chewing gum. The sound of a person smacking their gum is absolutely annoying, so be considerate and learn to control the habit.

When people smack and pop their gum, most of them are probably unconscious of how it sounds (while others actually do it on purpose, to show off). It produces a sound that grates heavily on my nerves, and almost has the same effect on me as fingernails scratching a chalkboard. Another thing some people do with gum that is not necessary is that little "tug-of-war" game between the fingers and the mouth. It shows no class whatsoever, and it is so juvenile to boot. I have nothing against chewing gum (because I myself chew it), but let's be mannerly about it, shall we?! It should be chewed as quietly as possible, and it should remain inside until ready to dispose of it.

Ever notice when they want to characterize someone as a bimbo in a movie, play or television show they often show them popping gum? And it looks just as silly and has about the same effect in real life. However, when you factor in all the habits in this list I would put this way down on the list as the worst of them. More a detriment to the person doing it in the long run than those who observe it happening.

I nearly went out of my mind the other day when I found myself next to a woman who could medal at the Olympic level in popping and smacking gum. If I had been wearing earplugs, I still would've heard this woman's noisy chewing. I have nothing against chewing gum, but I object when the sound of it interferes with my ability to think a clear thought. In fact, I'm certain that I've gotten lower scores on tests when sitting next to a loud gum-chewer. If you're going to chew gum, please keep it to yourself!
