Smoking 1

Smoking is very bad. My late uncle died of lung cancer in 2001. He was the young age of 56. This proves once and for all that smoking kills.

A woman who smoked said that she wouldn't mind having ten years knocked off of her lifespan because of smoking. She thought that she would live to be 65 instead of 75. She died of lung cancer at the age of 40.

If you're a teenager who thinks that smoking makes you look cool, it doesn't. Smoking kills. Even 2nd hand smoke is dangerous. 10,000 people die of 2nd hand smoke every year.

Cigarettes deserve a zero rating but the lowest that I can vote is 1.

It needs to be banned. Pot is banned. Smoking needs to be next.

No one should ever have to smell it or breathe it against their will.

I won't say most, but many smokers are just as nasty as the pollution they produce.

They are scum adicts who get pleasure from making others breathe their smoke.

I hope they die soon.

All I can say about smoking is that it's a deadly habit to get into (for both the smoker and those around him/her), and a hard habit to break once you've started. Not to mention the fact that it stinks. Some smokers seem to be totally unaware of how uncomfortable they make it for the non-smokers who are forced to be in the same room with them. Some of them just don't care. I wish that there was a zero or negative rating to give this filthy habit.

It pisses me off that people think if they dont smoke they will live longer. Guess what, I knew a guy that was a star athlete that excersised everyday, ate right and didnt smoke. He died of a heart attack at 30. One of my best friends smoked and he died at the age of 16. Lung cancer? No. He was crushed by a tractor. At the age of six-f*cking-teen. Who the hell cares if smoking kills you? There are plenty of other ways that people die besides naturally, and I wouldn't want to die at the age of 80 wearing a diaper, confined to a bed and being so senile I didnt know who or where I was. What do you value about life so much anyway? You go to school, finish that and go to work for the rest of your life where the only repreive you get is a two day vacation where you only get to take a quick lick of the true taste of happiness once a year or less, just so you can make enough money to retire at the age of 70 when you're too old to enjoy all the things you were waiting to do when you retire, then you become a senile vegetable and eventually die in a pool of your own filth cuz the nurse didnt feel like sponge bathing your nasty old ass. Really, either way you slice it, we are going to die. Why bother trying to live healthier when theres good chances you could die tomorrow and even if you get lucky and live to old age you suffer the fate I already described, which is hardly what I'd call lucky.

I'll take my chances with smoking and do something I enjoy with the short time I have on this earth.

Nicotine is the best stimulant in the world. Until you have done it, shut up. As for saying kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray, you're fools to say such stupid crap. Have you people really licked ashtrays? I also can't stand this whiny pricks that moan about cigarettes killing a loved one. They talk like these people are immortal. Would you rather see them shitting their pants and not knowing where they are? The bottom line is we all die. Have fun and live each day like it is your last. I saw some stat the 1/5 of adults in America smoke and every 8 minutes a smoker dies. It also must mean that every 2 minutes a non smoker is dying.

As far as bars, what is a little bit of smoke? You're drinking poison and losing inhibitions. Does a little smoke matter when you end up with a hangover and the clap from doing some stranger? Petro based products that people use are just as bad as smoking. They (the companies) admit it because they have products to sell, products that aren't regulated. Sound fimilar. Hell, eating alot of beef is just as bad as smoking, with all of those growth hormones.

Who is to say that if a smoker didn't smoke they wouldn't die at the same age or younger? Why do we all assume they would live longer? In Europe, most of the people smoke and they have the same life expectancy as Americans. Stress, a poor diet, and a lack of exercise are worse than smoking. Anyways the smoking stats come from a machine. They are warped stats.

Mandatory smoking bans hurt business and are unconstitutional. Bars are private property. The government has over stepped their limits. If a non smoker doesn't like the smoke, don't go to that bar. Smokers and believers of the constitution need to fight this. These bitter people that can't face the reality of death and disease are living in their own world of selfishness.  P.S. Doctors kill more than tobacco.

Smoking is a deliberate act of one taking in toxins, which is beyond stupid, I'm sorry...A friend of mine, which checks blood on a powerful microscope, and the people he checks, who smoke daily, their blood work, their cell's are pathetic! It slowly robs you of your cell's and life. I here people say: "well, smoking is what calms me down". And then they will say: "Smoking is the only enjoyable thing I have left to do"unquote....What sorry excuses! they are to stupid to see that smoking is what is making them nervous, and robbing them of their joy.

Smoking is a vile habit. Worse than all the damage you can do to yourself is the lack of inconsideration towards those around you. I am sitting in my home breathing the carcinogenous foul cigarrette smoke coming from my neighbor's and I am simply disgusted and irritated. Why should I have to pay for other people's poor health decisions? If anyone has any ideas on how to approach this subject delicately with my ever smoking neighbor, please do feel free to pass them along.

Cigarettes are one of mankinds worst inventions. If it was made illegal, it may not wipe the habit out but people would have to go for longer periods of time without a cigarette and in turn become less of a slave to the addiction. It's about time the government free'd its people from the curse it bestowed upon them!

Just need to remind myself everytime I have a craving of the zillion reasons not to have one. I actually quit for 2 years back in 1998. I figured I'd casually have one after 2 years of not smoking. All it took was one and I was hooked again.

People in this country need to be considerate of smokers. Most smokers smoke because they want to relieve stress and it dosn't help when they ban smoking in public. If a smoker wants to smoke let them smoke. It's so stupid that they baned smoking in bars who go's into a bar to get healthy anyway.

I honelty can't stand most smokers. Yes, I know some that are considerate people who will leave the area to lite a cigarette but a lot of them just don't give a sh**. ( and to be honest, the ones that do "leave the area" still don't go far enough away to avoid smelling the smoke) I own a pet store that contains many baby birds, I actually have had a couple of people park their car in front of our store, get out, smoke a cigarette, and drive away just so they didn't have to smell the cigarete in their car! I don't want the second hand smoke, and I sure as hell don't want my babies getting it either! Maybe I've just had a bad experience with smokers (and living in the OC this is probably true) but from what i've seen is that most don't care who is around when they smoke, just that they need to. Yes, I understand that it is an awful addiction, and never being a smoker or addicted to anything in general (except carbs lol) I can't really get the full picture of how hard it is to quit. But, correct me if I'm wrong, Isn't a couple months of the pains of quitting better than years of painful illness from the smoke inhilation?

Horrible habit;it has killed people I loved. And as a previous poster mentioned, it is hugely annoying to go into a smoke-filled bar and emerge smelling like an ashtray. I went to a party the other night where there were smokers, and when I got home my throat and my chest were all scratchy. It's just not pleasant to be around, and I never have understood why people take up such a destructive habit when its dangers are so well-established. REPERCUSSIONS OF LONG TERM SMOKING:Hey, Kool Kats, smoking may seem cool now when you're about 16, but don't end up like my mom. My mom thought smoking was cool when she was 16, too. 50 years later, she was dying of emphysema, hooked up to an oxygen tank, and on a daily ritual of breathing treatments. She dwindled down to 90 lbs and became a miserable invalid. My mom was a vibrant person who loved life and certainly did not want to end up like this.

Yes, smoking is a very bad habit, but, instead of simply knocking the smokers down, why not try to find some useful information on helping them quit? Fact is smoking, after a length of time is extremely addictive. I am a smoker and have been struggling with it since I was 13 years old and very impressionable. I've been told by my doctor that it is equivalent to a heroine addiction. I know for a fact that God does not approve of it. I am not rude though. When around others who do not indulge, I always ask if they mind and if yes, I will either remove myself long enough to light one or just do without until I'm not around then any longer. No person I know has ever woken up one day and said to themself " I'm going to become a rude, intolerable, ciggarette smoker today and some day die of lung cancer or some such other disease related to this ( BAD ) habit. A final word on the subject... our own government officials, some previous and some present today are responsible in a large part of health related illness due to the use of tobacco products. They knew, long before releasing it to the general public, that it was deadly. They allowed it for their own reasons...let God be their judge...not me . King James tried to keep it from entering into his country and, not for this alone, but other reasons, I admire the man. If they had listened to his advice there, we would not have it here. Pray for all of us smokers to get the strength up to quit. The way I understand, it's only uncomfortable for a short time. Peace, Sharon

If you can give up smoking, it's not a dangerous habit anymore. Trouble is, it's damn hard giving up. I don't smoke, if I wanted to pollute my lungs with carbon monoxide, I'd lay underneath a car. At least it would be cheaper. Two things I cannot stand: someone exhaling smoke into my face and 11 year olds puffing away on cigarettes - usually when they should be at school. It's a gross habit!

If smoking were a habit it would be a bad one, one of the worst. It is truly so much more. Until you've experienced this addiction, or some other addiction, you can't really know the danger of starting this habit, but it is so often a death sentence, and not a quick, painless death. When you're young and healthy, all you have heard about smoking is how debilitating and unhealthy it is. Like so many young people, you try it and are surprised at the good feeling, you get from it, and how it is relaxing. You're surprised. All your friends do it, what's the harm. Sure, I'll have one. You don't even realize at what point you're hooked. Yeah, I smoke, but I could quit if I wanted to, I just find it relaxing. With all we know today, how can young people fall into this trap? Over and over, millions of them. Is there no way to get the message across? If you'd ever watched someone die from lung cancer (as Seraph has), or suffocate to death from emphysema, you'd never pick up a single one of these paper-rolled terrorists, who smile at you and make you feel good, only to ravage your body and torture you to death. You, young people, please don't start.

Lung cancer, brought on by decades of smoking, practically turned by uncle into a vegetable before finally claiming his life a few months ago. It was a simple Southern funeral, and after all kind words were said, I noticed a group of his relatives and friends step aside to share cigarettes and lighters -- no more than a few yards away from a man who was choked to death by tobacco. How sad that smokers will put aside all logic and reason to bow down to their next nicotine fix.

Yuck! This is the worst habit for people! I am glad we FINALLY have bylaws against smoking in restaurants! Finally we don't have to breathe in dirty air and be at risk of getting cancer. I'm not trying to stereotype, but MANY (not all) smokers I know are the RUDEST people! They don't care about going elsewhere to smoke so they aren't poisoning a non-smoker. It's just so inconsiderate and rude! What I don't understand is why people don't want to quit. It is bad for you, it causes cancer. So why do people want to smoke in the first place? I just don't get it. It is so dirty smelling too!

Ziggy- Um, where do you get the idea that the anti-tobacco cartel does not have as much money as the tobacco companies do as far as their advertising goes? Who do you think pays for alot of those TRUTH commercials and alot of those fancy anti-smoking campaigns? It is THE TOBACCO COMPANIES...they are being forced to pay thru the Master Settlement Agreement.( I am not saying they pay for all of it, but a good chunk they do!) But even so, it is truly the smokers that are paying. I am not saying that second hand smoke is completely harmless...I am saying that there is no scientific proof to alot of the studies. And I do believe that smoking is dangerous and kills so many people every year. I do not deny that. What I do want to make clear is that the anti-tobacco cartel has made it possible for the government to take away alot of our rights. Even though it seems like it is ok that they are putting restrictions on smokers, it will not be OK in the future when they start controlling even more of your life...which believe me, they will. Many restaraunts are going out of business now because of new laws in Florida and elsewhere in the country. If the owner of a restaraunt wants their restaraunt to be an establishment where smoking is allowed, then they should be able to do so just as much as an owner who wants a non-smoking establishment ! It is completely against their rights...a travesty...

I don't smoke, and it doesn't really bother me to be around people that do. What I do dislike is getting home from the bars, a restaurant, or a smoker's house and finding my clothes smell like a mix of old tobacco and ashtray. Just getting back from visiting NYC, the new law stating that you cannot smoke in any public establishment (i.e. bars, restaurants, etc.) is, in a word, spectacular. My clothes smelled like a million bucks on the way home. The major downside of the law is there is a definite increase in people going outside for a smoke and ditching their bills, but I would imagine restaurants will begin to adapt new policies to prevent this in the near future.

It seems to me when I see someone smoking they are nervous people. There is not one good think about smoking. The smokers are they ones who look older then everyone else. I'm talking about the young people too. They start looking older earlier than the non smokers. I have seen wrinkles on smokers who are in their early 20's. Most important bad thing is your lungs rot.

Had it been a recent invention, tobacco products would never been given the approval by the FDA for sale to the public. It's simply too cancerous. That Big Tobacco has thrived for so many years after the health consequences were first made public is unfortunate. However unethical tobacco corporations may have been, I don't believe current smokers should have their basic rights disrespected, unless they are truly infringing on other's rights to clean air. I would hope expectant parents could find the strong motivation to break the habit, but who am I to judge since I've never been addicted? Most of us know a family member or friend's parent whose life has been cut short by lung cancer [See Castlebee's affecting story on this topic]. I can remember getting "candy cigarettes" in my trick-or-treat bag, seeing cigarette vending machines everywhere, as well my favorite childhood movie idols lighting up in what seemed like an appealing manner that made them rebels. Maybe every Hollywood film that glamorizes the habit should be accompanied by this final scene: the same pretty stars at age 60, wheezing and hacking up a lung. Closeup of overly-wrinkled skin and yellow teeth. Fade to black.

The cons clearly outweigh the pros on this one. Smoking is addictive, expensive, yellows your teeth, stinks up your clothes, can give you a variety of different cancers and is potentially fatal. But it doesn't matter as long as you look cool.(sarcasm) Have you ever been around someone who is trying to quit? The slightest disturbance is likely to set them off. I'm not one of those people that preach about the dangers of smoking without first trying it. I only smoked once so I don't have a lot of experience to speak of. But what I can say is that I had a bad taste in my mouth and for the next hour I could only think about how I was going to get another cigarette. If I had been smoking for over a year I imagine it would be a million times harder to sweat it out of my system.

Smoking is a terrible health hazard. When I was a board member of the American Cancer Society, I headed up the "Great Smoke-Out Day" in our town one year. I've known some wonderful people who ruined their health with cigarettes. So, the answer is personal persuasion - NOT the government butting in! Our tax-hungry rulers need to mind their own business, leave the tobacco companies alone, and let intelligent people make their own decisions.

I smoked for about 5 years. It is a nasty habbit I'm glad I stopped. I knew it was bad for me, so to help me stop I didn't carry any ciggs around with me. I also stopped smoking in public b/c it looks bad. When some one at work comes back from a smoke break they stink and I hate having to sit next to them. That with the fact that it turns your teeth a funny color and is unhealthy is why I stopped. Know one wants to talk to a stinky, wrinkly smoker. If you smoke in your house that's even worse b/c now eveything will turn yellow and they people who don't smoke have to suffer. I know it helps to smoke if you are stressed, but in the long run it will be better if you stop.

Did you know that there are some five THOUSAND chemicals found in cigarettes? I didn’t know it either, until my Mom was told she had lung cancer. For years, both she and I were die hard smokers. We thought that there was no form of cancer exclusively found in smokers, thus, there were room for errors. Well, guess what we were told by her oncologist (doctor who specializes in cancer)? The type of cancer my Mom had, and eventually died from, has only been found in smokers! I loved my smokes, and thought I’d never quit. I now know better, and have been quit for over a year and a half. Not only have I stopped puffing for a year and a half, but my cat (believe it or not) also had to go through nicotine withdrawal. That’s right, the cat had always been around me when I worked at my house and had inhaled enough second hand smoke to get her addicted to nicotine. I was both amazed and appalled. I never would have put my pets health at risk, and never would want my child at risk either. Which, she was when I smoked. I always tried to act responsible when I smoked, I wouldn’t smoke around others who didn’t smoke, never blew smoke in anyone’s face. But I would have never thought of all the dangers I was putting my children and pets in by smoking. Smoking is one of those tricky habits (aren’t they all in one way or another.) I thought that I always had to have them with me, I had to have that hit. That is, until the day I really found out all about harm smoking can do. I found a wonderful support group online, and eventually started my own support group online. You can quit, when you’re ready too.

You know Im getting real tired of these second hand smoke activists running around telling people where and where not they can smoke. You want "The truth" Ill give you the truth, The truth is is that there is no evidence second hand smoke kills anyone. Everyones heard the second hand smoke "fact" thats says, "3,000 people die every year from second hand smoke" right? Those statistics that you saw on that truthc comercial about 3,000 people dieing every year of second hand smoke actually were lies. And Im not just saying that, those statistics were put out in an official report by the EPA. Thats report then was sued by a cigarette company. This case went to a federal judge. After carefully looking over the information he concluded that the EPA would throw out information it didnt want (ie that information that said smoking didnt really hark you that much), and keep information that they liked. The EPA took out 19 of the orginal 30 pieces of information givin to them. Then truth said on one of its latest commercials "A recent study by the EPA shows that 3,000 people die every year from second hand smoke". They did this thinking that people would trust the credibility of the EPA and hope that the normal TV watching persons ignorance will make them belive this. This they hoped will lead the way to a smoke free world. Hopefully if we shoot off enough propaganda it will get what we want to happen, a smoke free world!. Lies do nothing Truth. If you dont belive me get it from a respectable source. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,26109,00.html The facts are that plenty of studies show second hand smoke doesnt do anything bad for you. But Plenty of studies show it does. The fact is this is not a very well researched topic and for truth to so deliberitly put out commercials like this is wrong.

Smoking 3

Smoking is a habit, but it can soon turn into an addiction, and once people are addicted, there is no stopping them no matter how hard they try. As BigBaby said, this is nothing but eventual suicide, but we're blessed to live in a country where you can choose to do this. I just don't understand why people do it. If I want to fill my lungs with smoke I'll just stick my head in a BBQ pit.
