On January 1st of this year, while traveling on Pacific Ave between Forest Grove and Cornelius, a driver entered the highway from a driveway on the north side of the road, entered the center divider while speeding up, and pulled into my vehicle. It happened fast enough that I did not have time to react to avoid the collision. We both pulled to the right shoulder of the road immediately to exchange personal and insurance information. He told me that he didn’t see my vehicle as he sped up to merge. I asked how he couldn’t see a 2007 Chevy Tahoe that has automatic daytime running lights, to which he simply stated again that he did not see my vehicle. Based on the other driver’s insistence that he would insure his insurance company would cover all repairs and his pleading that I not let the police sort the accident out, I felt it best to immediately contact the police and report the accident.
When the police arrived, he and I both provided a statement (police report is attached). The investigation seemed to take longer than I thought it would. It turns out the reason for the length of the investigation is that his Washington driver’s license came back as being suspended, so he was going to be cited for the accident. Though there was evident body damage, my vehicle seemed to be in good working order, so after the police left, I continued driving the vehicle. I was a little rattled by the suddenness of the accident, so I decided to go find a parking lot and park for a bit to settle down. I also decided that I would forgo the errands I had intended and try to make a little money driving for UBER.
Immediately upon returning home that evening I completed an accident report for Oregon DMV, and filed a claim online with my insurance company (Esurance). I received an email on January 2nd from Esurance informing me of the claim number and adjuster assigned to the claim. On January 4th, I received a letter concerning what would be my responsibilities during the claim process. On January 5th, I emailed Ms. Sobieck a copy of the accident report completed by the police at the scene of the accident. On January 7th, I went to the Forest Grove Police Department to get a copy of the police report submitted for the accident (attached).
On or about January 6th, I was informed by Ms. Sobieck that Viking Insurance, the insurer of the other driver, had reached a decision that they would assume 85% of the liability, leaving me to cover the remaining 15% of the costs of repair. She recommended that I take the offer, and they would attempt to recover the remaining costs during arbitration. I called the adjuster for Viking Insurance, Ms. Corinne Hashenberger, to find out why they were trying to force me to accept any responsibility for the accident. She told me that they determined, based on their insured’s statement that he was doing 10 mph while merging, that I “made an insufficient effort to avoid the accident.” I told her that I had clearly told them he had accelerated quickly and there was no opportunity to avoid the accident. She maintained her assertion that I’d not made sufficient effort to avoid the accident. She expressed no concern that the speed limit was 40 mph and that attempting to merge at 10 mph would violate the Oregon Vehicle Code that requires drivers to act and a “responsible and prudent manner” as well as section 811.285 that requires vehicles to safely merge at the posted speed.
I continued to drive the vehicle as I had been doing previously. While returning from Portland on the 7th, I noticed a grinding noise coming from the front left wheel, which took the brunt of the impact. I decided that the vehicle was probably not safe to drive anymore, so I decided to take it into the shop for repairs and did so on January 8th.
On January 9th, I sent an email to Ms. Sobieck asking what recourse I had for the loss of potential income while my vehicle was in the shop for repairs. I followed up with a phone call on the 10th to talk directly with her. She again asked if I had any passengers (a question posed during my initial statement) to which I again responded that I did not. She then informed me that there may be an issue with their policy while driving as a public conveyance. I again informed her that I had NOT been doing so. I had been on a personal errand which I had decided to cancel after the accident. She let me know that she would let me know what the result of the investigation over the public conveyance was.
I received a certified letter from Esurance dated January 20th informing me that they would not cover any repairs on the vehicle until the investigation was complete. I have since provided them with the fact that it was four hours between the accident and the first public conveyance I provided.
At issue is the following statement found in my policy (appropriate section attached) section 1.F of EXCLUSIONS FOR PART I: LIABILITY COVERAGE: “For that “insured’s” liability arising out of the ownership or operation of any vehicle while it is used as a public or livery conveyance, or used to carry property for compensation or a fee. This Exclusion 1.F. applies to, but is not limited to, the delivery of magazines, newspapers, food, or any other products. However, this Exclusion 1.F. does not apply to shared-expense car pools.” This statement clearly states WHILE it is used as a public conveyance and provides, as examples, the delivery of periodicals, food and products. I interpret this to mean that I would have had to ACCEPTED a ride request and be in transit to the pickup point or have picked up a passenger for pay. Neither of these conditions were in play at the time of the accident meaning that I am needlessly being denied the use of my vehicle.
On January 25th, I stopped by Bruce Chevrolet (the repair facility currently working on the vehicle) to find out what the status of the vehicle was. I was told that in addition to the body damage that has already been repaired, they found that the left front hub (the controlling part of the suspension for the four-wheel drive) was shattered and needing to be replaced. At that time, I reminded him that there were two other issues that presented themselves immediately after the accident; the “Service Suspension System” warning indicator started coming on intermittently, and there was a new “thunking” noise coming from the rear end upon acceleration. He then informed me that after several attempts to arrange for payment for the repairs, Ms. Sobieck had told him to “cease all work on the vehicle and that the only way it would be paid for is if the other insurance company paid for it or if Eric Polson paid for it.”
It would seem to me that an adjustor has the power to make a decision based on facts and/or testimony and/or logic. In this case none have been applied. I testified as to exactly what happened from my point of view. Viking made a decision that considered neither my testimony nor facts presented in the police report and instead took the claim of the at-fault driver that neither coincide with the police report nor Oregon law regarding responsible and prudent driving practices. Esurance made a decision based on a misinterpreted policy statement and chose to ignore testimony to which an oath of truthfulness was given. Based on these comedies of errors I am left without a vehicle since my policy does not cover a rental vehicle, and Viking made no attempt or offer of assistance.

They are terrible. They cancelled me because they think I'm a dealer which I am not. I have rental property and rent to a auto repair company. They repair cars and do not sell cars. My office is in back and I keep my car at the rear of building most of the time since it is safe fence with alarm. Once they make up their mind with a certain situation, there is nothing you can say or do to convince them they are incorrect. Just as well, I bet they would be a real pain to deal with if anyone ever had a claim. My old insurance agent warned me about them. He was right.

We were quoted a cheap rate and as soon as we joined we were hit with all kinds of hidden fees. It increased our rate to almost double what they quoted. When we went to cancel 2 months later they hit us with a early termination fee of $300. This we didn't find out until we pulled our credit report and found we had been sent to collections. There were so many things wrong here, I would never recommend using Esurance or now Allstate. Stay far away from them.

Total liars. Down payment quote was low right up until they are ready to process your payment....just then your quote magically goes up by $50 00 or more without a reasonable explanation (I haven't received a ticket or had an accident in over twents years) . I should have followed my gut feeling, that this is a company that shouldn't be trusted. They also jacked my monthly payment by more than $8.00 a month by saying it's a processing fee. In this day of age where just about everything is paid online I can't imagine why it would cost $8.00 to process anything unless you are trying to rip people off. I will admit that the customer reps were nice...but they lie to keep a job, I guess.

i was hit by someone with esurance. they said they wouldn't pay for all the damages because they said it was not all caused by the person who hit me. unfair. my car was perfect before this person hit me. now my car will not be repaired because they don't want to give me the full amount to fix my car. this insurance company is a scam. please go with another company and save you and potentially another person from loss. also, they are super hard to get a hold of. they almost never return your calls or are never there. plus, from what others have said if it is your car that is damaged and you have full insurance it is still hard to get them to repair or replace. basically, they take your money and don't give you any service.
i recommend american family over this company any day.

buyers of esurance beware. please don't go with this company.

The first time I purchased a policy from Esurance I received a great quote. When it came time to renew the second 6 months of the policy, it went up almost $100 without notice. I called Esurance to inquire as to why. I was told it was because of a state wide increase. The second year renewal was again increased by almost another $100 for six months. I canceled.
Just a year ago, I was looking for a better rate and gave Esurance another shot. The quote I received was just $385 for six months, so I decided to go with it. My renewal for the second six months went up to $487. Again no notification before hand. I called and was told the increase was because of a state wide increase. After three times, you'd think I'd have learned. I knew it was going to happen again, but I procrastinated and didn't get quotes from other companies. Sure enough, today....I checked my online bank statement and there it was. Esurance had withdrawn $587, again without prior notice. Again I called and was again informed the increase was due to a state wide increase. Imagine that!
I did find out that Esurance posts a notice of increase for each customer, but that notice is in the policy holders policy updates.
DON'T be fooled by Esurances LOW BALL quotes to get you to purchase. I wouldn't recommend Esurance to anyone! unless maybe you need a policy for six months.

I did not actually purchase their insurance yet. I just got a quote. Did the quote on the internet and then called in to make sure I had it filled out right so I was comparing apples to apples. Then I told the rep that I had an accident just over a year ago that was not my fault so I did not mark that I had any claims. He said just to be sure he was going to mark it as a accident but not my fault. Well that increased my monthly quote by $20.00. It was still cheaper than my current insurance but I did not feel it is fair to increase someone's rate over an accident that they did not cause nor did not have to file a claim with my current insurance company. The claim is being handled by the business the guy works for who ran me (while 6 months pregnant) off the highway!

Well I thought before I jump in to another company I would read reviews on them and boy am I glad I did. The very few positive reviews do not by any means out weigh the negative. I will continue to shop around and if I do not find anything I will stay where I am as my insurance company has taken good care of me the several years I have had them and that is worth the little extra.

LESS THAN 1 STAR! Actuall like Negative 100 stars!

I only bought esurance becasue I arrived at a dealer with no insurance.
1) I was on my parents insurance prior to this and they told me to send a decloration page in showing this. Sent it....well i was insured for a different car...this became a problem, we had to schedule a phone confrence for verification with my prior ins.

2) this week (5 months into my 6 month policy) I EMAILED THEM and said" I need to know when my policy cancels/is ending, I need the date."

the computer generated an automatic policy cancelation request. i get an email that says "your policys been canceled" I call customer service...They said it was a computer error and i am reinstated...get a reinstatement email....then i get another policy cancelation email/refund processed email. I call and they notify me I have been cancelled for 2 days. I got up set the rep checked notes. he admitted a computer/esurance error... but couldnt correct ti untill i returned the 300$ that i may not recieve for 14 days... and there was now a lapse in coverage.

I had to have my uncle 3 way in to help me talk to a manager...after getting a little nasty, the supervisor immediatley refunded my funds, and i had to have them take it back out of my acct. They took the lapse away. BUT NOW they are chargng me a 50$ cancellation fee...i called today when i saw this and they said " nothing we can do since you DID cancel it" I NEVER FREAKING CANCELLED IT!

I found a better rate for beter coverage @ 21st century...

this was a big fat waste of money.

I totally agree, esurance is terrible. We had a semi truck drop a tarp in front of our BMW about 3 years ago.. In CA, we have the right to take our car to ANY repair facility we want.. they fought with us over taking it to BMW’s recommended facility, and refused to pay the claim for over 3 months. Nobody was injured, but I checked my wife’s driving history report, and it lists ‘At Fault Accident with Bodily Injury over Threshold’ - Probably so they could try to charge us more for it… good thing I cancelled right after that horrible ordeal… These people are idiots.

Esurance left me out to dry. They are terrible in the claims department. They will turn their back on you to save a buck. They let an accident that was not my fault be charged to me because it was minor, and cheaper to pay the claim then to defend it. It now cost me $700 a year more. They are a terrible company. John G

Just to clarify, to submit my experience with Esurance, there has to be at least 1 star in the rating. In reality, I give them zero stars.

I was hit, head on, last week. The other person started to turn in front of me. She was ticked and the police report said it was her fault. She even admitted to the police that she was turning in front of me. Then why is Esurance treating me like I am trying to defraud them. They won't pay the rental car. They don't return half of my calls. They told me it was my responsibility to contact the other insurance company. After asking her what was the point of having insurance if you aren't going to do your job, she called the other company. They tried talking me into paying for the car, then going after the other insurance company for reimbursement. I have already been switched to another representative, who also doesn't return calls. I tried to call a supervisor, but when I dialed 0 on their phone tree, it said the operator wasn't available. After multiple calls, it seems like someone mistakingly answered the phone. I asked for a supervisor, and she wouldn't connect me with one. I tried being nice at first and got nowhere. After being extremely nasty with them, they are starting to do their job. As soon as this accident is taken care of, I am switching companies.

These guys are the WORST. Do NOT be TRICKED into buying insurance from them. I was quoted a policy price by an agent that I accepted and then bought the insurance. After doing so I had the policy roughly four weeks before being notified that the "conditions" of my policy were not correct and I owed another $167 on the policy. EXCUSE ME?!? This company gives ME the price and then changes it a month later? And the WORST past is they charged me $50 to cancel their piece of shit policy as well. DO NOT GET ESURANCE, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! THEY ARE A BAD AND DISHONEST COMPANY WITH TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY!

I love Esurance car insurance, I wouldn't trade it in for the world. The whole team, is polite and they will work with you through any circumstance in which you might fall behind on your payments. Not to mention the unbeatable prices..I have already had six of my friends switch to Esurance (they should hire me lol jking). You would think because they are strictly online the service they provided would be anything but top notch. But boy was i wrong. I mean its so affordable that almost anyone can drive without the hassle of not being able to afford their car insurance and i believe this is one of the reasons why i rate Esurance nations #1 car insurance experts. If you think your car insurance is the best I can guarantee you Esurance will prove YOU WRONG..Job well done Esurance, keep up the good worker..

I just wanted to let you know that I was a little hesitant to switch to Esurance because I didn’t know much about the company and the rates seemed too good to be true. When I did a search on Google, I found many complaints about claims and service and funds being withdrawn from bank accounts unauthorized. I reasoned with myself that people only post the bad stuff. So I want to post the good stuff! Go figure that shortly after switching to Esurance, we had to file a claim, which is very rare. I reported the claim and was contacted by my claims representative within 12 hours. He was extremely friendly and helpful. I was provided with a reputable body shop that contacts me every 48 hours with updates on my vehicle. I was able to view claims status, even pictures of my vehicle online, which was very convenient. Payment was made by the insurance company to the body shop within 5 days. No additional funds have been withdrawn from my account either, only what was agreed upon at the time the policy was sold to me. Overall, I am very impressed with the claims process and service I have been provided. I was afraid that when I switched to Esurance, I thought we would be sacrificing service for price. That is definitely not the case. I feel confident in my switch to Esurance and will be very likely to renew my policy with them!

I have had Esurance for quite some time and I must say that I have been hard pressed to find better rates with insurance companies other than with USAA. I used USAA several years ago until I was rear-ended, and my $23,000, 1 year old car was totaled for a settlement of $8000, and their gap insurance only covered up to an additional 25% of the settlement toward the loan leaving me with about $12,000 of debt on a car I did not own. Recently my current vehicle was totaled through Esurance and I must say I was quite surprised to find out that Esurance was giving me a very fair amount for it. However, Esurance has been extremely slow at getting through the processes of a total loss. It has been 24 days now and counting. But I would rather wait for a fair settlement than to have an expedited terrible offer. If you get Esurance I highly recommend getting very good rental coverage. other than the slow processing I am pretty happy with Esurance and would recommend them.

Esurance is wonderful! I've had them for several years and will not go with another company. After problems w/another company I switched to Esurance. Their rates are better than other companies. I have had to file claims with them and their customer service has been wonderful. They return calls, they are friendly & polite over the phone, they get things taken care of fast. The only complaint that I have is that they sent me to a major name repair shop that caused additional damage rather than fixing the car. They paid for another repair shop after I reported the problems and they listened & cared about my bad experience.

Worst insurance company I have ever worked with. Negative stars if it was an option. I will never go back to them and have promised them I will encourage everyone I know to use any other insurance company BUT them. I had a car totaled in a simple situation (natural storm) that took them 3 months to act on and even now (3 1/2 months later) I am still battling with them on the same issue that would have taken any other insurance company to resolve in weeks. that is- when I can get anyone on the phone. Most weeks, my phone calls and voicemails just remain unanswered. Apparently they do not believe in helping THEIR customers out in any way. Slimey in their dealings. Worst customer service I've ever experienced.

I made my 5th payment on 11/23 (one day late) $69.91 because I change my debit card number because they kept taking different dollar amounts on different days. They made me pay on 12/05, $63.13 and again on Christmas 12/25 $69.56 without me knowing they just took money from my checking account. They keep taking money twice from my checking account and their reasons are confusing. The dollar amount is inconsistant. I told them I'll make the payments, I don't want them just taking money out of my checking account or I wont do business with them. They promised they would not. Then they do it again 3 weeks later on 12/25. I'm pissed because it's overdrawn my account because I didn't expect a charge until 1/05. They say they are open 7/24 - bullsh!t. I've been calling for 3 hours they say system down for maintenance and staffs leaving shift.

I used esurance because they were the cheapest that I could find and being in Arizona (some of the highest insurance rates in the country due to the higher number of uninsured motorists) insurance for cars is always expensive.

I had the minimum coverage ($15,000/$30,000) and was paying almost $1,000 for six months. I couldn't switch because they were going to charge a $50 early termination fee (which should be illegal) so I had to wait until my renewal time came up. When it did, I went to AmFam and got even better coverage ($100,000/$300,000 plus extras) and was paying almost $250 less for the 6-month term.

Now, my brother is leaving esurance as well since he's got a paid-for 1996 VW with minimum coverage, no accidents/tickets on his record for almost 7 years and is paying almost $650 for 6-months!! That same *exact* policy at AmFam is costing him $450 ($200 less!) for 6-months!

Even when my brother got married, he called esurance to notify them since most insurance companies provide a discount because you're married and was told by esurance that his rate would actually go up about $150 because he now has to insure 2 drivers on the same vehicle!

Simply outrageous!

Esurance is a scam. Purchased thier insurance on line, Was quoted one amount which I paid and they got thier payment. They "Discovered" that I had less coverage with my pervious insurance company so they raised my rate because I was getting more coverage. So i asked them to drop my coverage to what my pervious compnay had my coverage at.. THEY STILL WANTED TO CHARGE ME MORE MONEY this is a scam. I would ask for my money back but I am sure they will take months to refund it so I am just going to stick with them for the 6 months and find yet another company then.. There has to be a honest insurance company out there somewhere.

After my husband got a DUI (did not get into an accident or hurt anyone or anything..luckily)...esurance was the ONLY company that would even consider insuring him. We also have a teenage son who started driving. I thought the insurance premium would be insane and it actually is the lowest we have EVER paid (we've had Allstate, State Farm, Farmers and Metlife). After using them for a year accident free, I am happy to report that our insurance for the 3 vehicles has dropped $300. I couldn't be happier. I do have to admit that we have never had to deal with a claim. I find the web site easy to follow and never was on hold for more than just a few minutes. We get notification via email every month as to when and what is being taken from our bank account and its has never been different. Esurance works for our family.

I have had Esurance for four years- it is fine if you don't need it. But I got in one accident where there was a small amount of damage to a traffic sign and Esurance won't return my phone calls, letters, or e-mails. The State Department of Transportation is now filing a lien against my house for the unpaid bill for the traffic sign damage. They are also in the steps of garnishing my wages.

Thanks Esurance for taking my $97 a month and not helping me in the ONE time I needed it.

I'm going to cancel ASAP.

I signed up for an esurance auto policy on June 11th, explaining that I was
in California for an extended work assignment however my home is in NY, the
clerk assured me that would not be a problem and I paid for a 6 month
policy.

3 days later I got a very discourteous phone call to "remind" me that if I
did not have my vehicle inspected at one of their designated inspection
sites my insurance would be cancelled. However, he could not provide a
location other than in NY and ended the call. I called e-surance to find
out where to take my vehicle, and they had no locations in California for a
NY resident. I cancelled the e-surance policy after I signed up with
Progressive (which didn't have a problem with getting a NYS vehicle
inspected in CA) and that's when things went from bad to worse! The three
days of insurance were going to cost be in excess of $100. (A six month
policy was only $268.) After speaking to a clerk, and then another clerk,
and finally a supervisor, she agreed that I should not be penalized because
they could not provide an inspection location and I would only be charged 30
dollars for three days of insurance. $10 dollars of the $30 is a
non-refundable fee charged by the state of NY (again, so why is this my
problem and not theirs?). I am told they will mail out a check, when I asked
for a deposit back to my debit account that I used to pay the bill, I was
told they did not have that capability. Whatever. A month goes by and I
have not received a refund, I call and am told the "check is in the mail".
Finally, on August 4th I get a check for $238 and promptly deposit it back
into my checking account. Then I receive a notice from my bank that the
check has had a "Stop Payment" issued on it, and that will only cost me
$10.00. I call esurance and spoke to a very nice, courteous and
professional woman that tried very hard to assist me, and actually had the
funds electronically deposited back into my checking / debit card account
(you know, that account that a month ago they had no capability to
electronically transfer funds too?) and gave me a fax number to send my bank
charges to so they can reimburse me via another check (this time to cover
the $10 stop payment charge).

There are so many insurance companies available to do business with, for far
less aggravation, I would recommend Progressive or Geico.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!

I had auto & home insurance with them for 3 years and over the course of those 3 years they seemed to find ways to nickel & dime me on both my auto & home owners insurance.

Things to take note of:

1. They are not rated in JD Powers consumer report!

2. They have 355 complaints against them! (as of 8/17/09)

3. Their billing system has at lot of hidden flaws! Example if you relocate to another state and your policy changes. The system waits 2 months before it will recognize that the previous month bill or the old policy hasn’t been billed. Then they want 2 months payment in full! (New and old policy payments). Instead of continue to bill you at the set date and then do any proration if needed?

4. The Esurance representatives really push you to use debit card or credit cards payments. (Easier for them to make immediate charges without notification)!

5. They will not call you if there any important updated information that might be needed by them or your state.

6. They communicated to you by email only!

7. Everything is done over the internet and you not have the ability to develop a business relationship with any of the insurance sales representatives. So it is hard to taylor an insurance policy for a specific need!

8. Very limited insurance products.

Note: If you have a home that you where or trying to sell and now your are forced to rent it out. Esurance home owner’s insurance company does not offer insurance for rental property!

Again do not waste your time with Esurance! They have a lot of hidden charges and flaws in their policies and procedures. Sad it took three years to discover them, but they are there! They find ways to offer you less and charge you more!

I'm 22 and own a SRT10, and a Yaris. Using progessive and quotes from everyone else I was paying $2,500/6 months full coverage for both cars brand new. Same rate with esurance but paying $800/6 months and I'm loving the extra cash in the bank. Haven't got into a accident so cant put my 2 cent there but as for saving money. I am saving alot. :D

Awful...my husband in motorcycle accident a year ago, the car that pulled out in front of him was insured by Esurance. Still waiting to settle. THey want us to sign away all our rights. We have police reports and the person was cited ..it was his fault. Esurance are trying to say the case was 'dubious and doubtful'. We have witnesses, My husband went over the top of the car.. he was wearing his full motorcycle gear ( which probsbly saved his life)My husband has never had an accident and has been driving and riding for 30 years. Esurance are trying to bully us...
I suggest that everyone with a complaint against them to get in touch with their State Insurance Commisioner..., and file a complaint with them. That's what they are there for and that's what we have done.
I give them -5

Had a car flooded from a hail storm and it would not start. Called Esurance and they had a tow truck out the next morning and towed it to the body shop at no charge. The car ended up being totaled and they gave me a good offer for my car - $10k+ for a 2002 Subaru WRX or a little over $9k if i wanted the car back. Once i made my decision i had my check the same day. Very helpful throughout the whole process.

They are the absolute WORST insurance company ever inexistance.

We had to pay a fee when our car was repaired, I have never heard that and told the repair that they would not pay for other repairs that were a part of the accident which of course meant that we have to pay ourselves. Rates increase with every renewal. I've had several auto insurance companies in my 30+ years of driving never one as bad as nosurance. Don't waste your time or hard earned money!!!!!

Too bad you can't leave "0" stars here.

Esurance is awful. Their people are rude and incompetent.

It all seemed fine til my vehicle was broken into. They have tried to pin it on me as if the damages to my automobile were my fault and not a direct result of the break-in even tho I have provided them with very well-documented police reports that THEY HAVE NEVER BOTHERED TO READ.

If you are lured into taking a policy with esurance because of their fun commercials and the promise of savings, just pray you never have an incident. You will be sorely disappointed. They will not follow up with you. (Take me for example, it's been over 3 weeks and these people STILL HAVEN'T taken my formal statement. I'm being told it's going to be basically another 2 business weeks until their investigator gets back to me on that.) Oh, and that's another thing...if they don't want to do the repairs on your vehicle, they'll report you to a claims investigator to delay it out until you don't even care about the claim anymore because you just want your vehicle back.

AND they'll also use this delay as an opportunity to get nearly NOTHING repaired on your vehicle just to get you to take it back unrepaired - so that when you call to inquire about when they're going to complete the job they can tell you "well you DO have your vehicle back now, be happy with that."

This company sucks - plain and simple.

Seriously, buyer beware.

I rate it ZERO stars. At first they were great, their website was easy to buy and print my policy and compared to other companies, I thought I was saving money. That was 2 1/2 years ago. I was in an accident this past December in which I totalled my car and sufferred severe back injuries. First, they offerred me about 1/4 of the book value of my car as it was a total loss. I had to spend $500 to hire a firm to fight it for me, which they did a great job and got it at least to 85% of book value. That was the first thing that pissed me off. Now, I have had 3 back surgeries and have not worked since February. I do not have disability through work because my employer is a cheap-ass, but fortunately Michigan law requires auto insurers to pay for lost work time at 85% tax free. Everything was fine at first, checks were coming in on time and they were finally paying my medical bills after my regular health insurance had already paid for everything and then found out that it was due to an car accident, so they had to go after Esurance because it was their responsibility to pay for it. Now that I have had three surgeries, they are getting a bit hesitant on paying things. They sent me to their own neurosurgeon for an "Independent" evaluation....guess what, it wasn't "independent" because THEY paid for it. Fortunately, he did state that I was disabled however he did not feel that a third surgery was necessary....wrong again, 2 other neurosurgeons disagreed, I had the surgery and am finally not in pain!! (Just have about 6 months of recovery). Anyways, my claims rep at Esurance is pathetic excuse for someone who suppossedly works in the customer service industry. She can't spell, she has no understanding of basic arithmetic, she has sent my checks to the incorrect addresses, delayed my payments because SHE sent requests to the incorrect addresses. I moved during the middle of it so I could receive better care and I informed her in writing 4 TIMES that my address had changed until she finally got it right (thus delaying payments). She has waited up to 4 months to reimburse me for prescriptions that I have had to pay for out of pocket and she has delayed sending my lost wage checks on multiple occassions for absolutely no reason. She has left threatening and demanding voicemails, she doesn't respond to emails. She got nasty with me when I spoke with her supervisor, on and on and on. I'm not sure if she is just retarded or if this is how they train everyone at Esurance.

I have since had to spend more of my money now to hire an attorney just so she will finally respond to her mistakes and get them corrected. Throughout this whole ordeal, I am going to end up losing a lot of money and cut into a lot of my savings and I know that the added stress and aggravation caused by her incompetence has greatly hindered my recovery and was probably partially responsible for me needing 3 surgeries. What she if forgetting is that I am the customer, but she just chooses to be a complete idiotic bitch.

My advice to you STAY AWAY FROM ESURANCE!!!!! IT IS NOT WORTH THE SAVINGS. I'm rating them 0 stars. If they had negative stars, it would be a NEGATIVE 5 STARS. THEY TOTALLY SUCK.

Damn it, they make you give them at least one star, but believe me, I'm going to have to have someone else click on it.

You would think that the online process would result in sigificant savings, but having compared several different insurance companies, this carrier is really not that competitive on a price basis. The company must not have good cost controls because a company that doesn't have to pay agent or broker commissions should be able to market a lower priced product.

I bought a policy on a pre-owned 2001 minivan when I returned from Iraq in 2005. The whole online process was impossible as my wife did not have a license at the time yet, and as I was married, they refused to accept the application online, and I had to phone them and explain that my wife did not drive. I needed a car and I needed insurance in a hurry.

Before six months was up they tapped my bank account again with no notice (print or e-mail) with a 10% increase! No tickets, no accidents, and a clean record! I called them immediately and got the money refunded and they told me that their policy was to auto charge my bank account early to ensure that the funds were there... I told them that this was illegal. They tried to tell me that there was a 10% early cancellation fee, which I contested. They claimed (get this... here's the winner,) Cell phone companies do it and so do we. Really?

If you despise companies having access at will to your bank account and hiding policies, go elsewhere, their customer service sucks, and I suspect they won't be around much longer unless they have huge internal changes. Personally, I'll never use this company again, and from the posts I've read... I'm glad I never had an accident.

I started with Esurance about 2yrs ago and have never been happy with them...NEVER! I only started with them because I was buying a car on a holiday weekend and no one else was open. The price was extremely high, all I was getting was basic coverage to get the car legal.

I figured after the 1st 6mos I'd get a lil bit of a discount and then I could add some more coverage, right. WRONG!!!!! When I inquired about adding coverage the price was so outrageous I just left it alone and figured I'd try it again in another 6mos. What a joke that was, I get my 2nd renewal with them and my permium went up by 40 buck a month. Now mind you I've had no claims whatsoever, so why would it go up??? Oh yeah and I never got a renewal offer stating how much my next 6mos would be they just withdrew the money from my account. So of course I called them to find out what the deal was...

They claimed there was a state wide increase for all insurance companies..WTFE!!!
So now I'm trapped with this comapany for another 6mos but have decided once my policy is up I'm going with another company. And they did it again, renewal time rolls around and they debit my account again, my permiums went up again and I still didn't have any claims. And this time they took my money 2 1/2 weeks before they were suposse to.

Again I called to find out what was going on and to cancel my ploicy altogether. These peolpe had the never to tell me that I could not cancel my policy within the first 60 days of the policy. I kindly told the woman that I did not agree to the renewal price and the renewal wasn't even in effect for another 2 1/2 weeks. She placed me on hold and when she came back she said she was going to have to charge me 10% of the policy permium for early cancelation. These people have lost their damn minds.

I would never recommend anyone to use Esurance NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that 1 star is void in my book the deserve nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically, they stole money from my bank account. I didn't authorize renewal. I didn't even want to renew with them. I can't even feed my family now because they stole money i needed for groceries out of my bank account.

Esurance automatically charged my bank account to renew my policy a few weeks before it was to end. I had the same trouble with them last year except that time, they'd charged a bank account that was empty and i was ready to close. this has caused me so much trouble and bank charges. the policy was like 1000 dollars so you know... i called them to tell them that i don't want to do any business with them at all after this and they said they'll MAIL me a check in 2 weeks. so.. they can automatically take money out of my acct but it takes 2 weeks to snail mail me a check? now my account is overdrawn and i have no money to buy food for my family. i called them on the phone and they are absolutely unremorseful. they said they warned me through email that they were to charge me.. an email account i no longer use btw. take my advice, DO NOT give this company your credit card number as they will charge your acct without proper warning or your authorization to renew. i did not want to renew my policy with them. what gave them the right to assume i did? this was never told to me when i talked to the agent over the phone when i signed up for service. i have no idea how i'm going to eat for the next few weeks especially now with all of these bank charges i didn't expect for having to cover the charges i've already made on the acct. i'm barely living week to week. i hate esuarance. we were barely holding it together before all of this. they have ruined our lives and they really don't care.

You get what you pay for.

The prices are competitive, and I never had a problem with them until I got in an accident. I was cut off by a driver who took complete responsibility for the accident. I missed a couple days of work and had to take my car in to an "E-star" repair place for body repair work. About a week later they had ordered the parts and my car had to be dropped off. Only I couldn't drop it off on a Saturday or Sunday, I had to drop it off on a Monday morning because they would not cover a rental car on the weekend. This was completely unrealistic since I leave for work at 6am Monday through Friday. They gave me the run around until finally I was able to find a car I could BORROW (putting my mom out of work for the duration of the repair).

I was supposed to be able to monitor my repairs online but their system never worked. It's a complete rip off. When my car was finally ready I went to pick it up and I was told my car was idling "funny". The "estar" repair place even told me they had their mechanic look at it and there was nothing wrong. It was a complete lie because the check engine light was now on (which it wasn't when I took the car in), and the car barely idled.

I had to take the car into the dealer to have it looked at and repaired. When I called esurance and told them to deal with this situation, they told me with a very snotty attitude that I had the car and they couldn't do anything about it.

Esurance really is a joke. Just hope you never get into an accident while you are insured by them.

I drove my Jeep into a snow bank to avoid T-Boning a vehicle in front of me that spun out of control. The "crash" knocked a wire loose and the plastic bumper was cracked...no big deal right?....WRONG... The vehicle has been off the road for 14 days now. An "adjuster" went out to appraise the damage and decided that the electrical problem was "not covered" and only apraised the bumper damage...The electrical problem was caused by the accident! How is it not covered?! Supposedly another adjuster should be appraising the electrical problem but it's been two weeks and i haven't heard anything!! ESurance is terrible! My "claim rep" never calls me back and acts like she's doing me a favor every time she talks to me. HORRIBLE!

We HAD Esurance for a period. After only having the police for about 2 months, I had to file a claim. The accident was not our fault. We had all the coverage. Unfortunately, when we went to renew our policy, they jacked our rates way up. Again, not our fault in the accident. Beware, if you ever have an accident with them as your coverage, they WILL jack up your rates at renewal.

The customer service at Esurance sucks ass. In the 22 months I was insured with them I called maybe four or five times, usually with just a question re. my policy. There was always a ten to fifteen minute wait on hold, and then half the time the operator I spoke to would be rude, unprofessional, and couldn't answer my question (sample question: why did my rate increase by five hundred dollars in the last six months?). I really dislike this company. I would have cancelled sooner but didn't have the time or energy to shop around.

Would rather rate them a 0. this company is horrible. i was customer for three years, always paid my premiums at six months, never once had a claim and yet my rates consistently went up, just enough to make it less than other places. i finally was able to combine my home owners and auto make it less and these jerks charged me a $50 cancellation fee for canceling one month before the term was up. i have never been charged an early cancellation fee by an insurance company. do not go thru them, it's a horrible company.

Awesome customer service, I called to cancel my policy and got a hold of a cancellation agent who was very professional and gave me great advice on insurance coverages. I told him thanks but the cost is too high, he than lowered my rate with extra discounts. Also offered me quotes to other companies, if esurance was not a right fit for me. I will stick with them for another term. The claims department is also pretty good too, never had a problem with any claim I had in the past. Very good company and does a lot for the environment.
