Beckett had a good year, going 17-9, but I don't think he was even the best pitcher on his own team this season. He got a lot of run support playing for the Red Sox, and on some days he was amazing. However, he wasn't consistently excellent this season, and his ERA shows it. That stat more than any other for pitchers shows how effective a pitcher is. Beckett was good once again, but not quite a vote getter for the Cy Young.

Excellent first half, he was among the best pitchers in baseball... but he slowed down in the second half. A solid year overall, but not really the kind that earns you more than, say,15 votes.

A big bounce back year after a dismal 2008, but somehow it seemed like he struggled a lot, despite going 17-6. He got behind in the count far more than usual, and his walk totals reflect that. Worth some votes, but not the top spot on the ballot.
