The sound of Elliott Brood would be best described as Folk Noire, acoustic guitar, banjo and occassionally ukulele fed through distortion to give it the odd sound of a strange old radio broadcast of murder ballads and fight songs. The freshest thing I've heard in a few years. Live, they draw the audience into the show by handing out odd ball percussion instruments like aluminum pie plates and wooden spoons and expect everyone to chant and howl away on the Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!'s. It's not Sunday brunch music, unless you serve whiskey at brunch and keep a pistol on your lap.
