Governor Crist appointed George LeMieux (R) to succeed Mel Martinez (R) who decided not to seek re-election and then resigned early. LeMieux will run for a full term in 2010. He was the youngest senator when he started service on September 10, 2009. He was born in 1969 and is Catholic.
