 | happygambler (0) 04/19/2004 | 4/11/04-4/16/04. Very nice, very swanky. You get what you pay for with the Golden Nugget. Plus the weather was gorgeous, almost as if they ordered it especially for our first stay downtown.
The Carson Street Cafe has wonderful food at a very decent price, the pool is nice (though busy, so drinks take awhile) and the casino itself is clean, bright and shiny. The gaming is nothing special, but the staff is great.
Ask for a room in the South Tower with a view of the strip and mountains, at least the 18th floor. We were in room 20117 (smoking room). It's a long walk from the desks and Fremont Street, but if you rent a car and park in the self-park garage, the entrance door is right by the elevators (be prepared to show a room key to access the elevators every time you use them).
We've already decided we'll stay the the Nugget again. We didn't gamble there much (mostly the Four Queens and the Fitzgerald) but the accommodations were everything they've been played up to be.
No disappointment in any regard with our stay there!
