I would like to point out that the first Black World Champion was Bobo Brazil in the 60's with the California based WWA. In 1969 the WWA agreed to close down and join the NWA as a territory.
Romn Simmons was a legitimate athlete with a great College Background. He was a tough wrestler and very suiccesful in the WCW. He also had a run in ECW. His stint as Farooq was embarassing and racially stereotypical. Shame on Simmons for allowing Mcmahon to exploit him like he did. Simmons should only be remembered for his Pre-WWF career.

06/27/2003 | Don't oversell this guy. He had a very brief run as WCW champ & an entertaining run as 1 half of APA. He is a great talent that was the consumate mid carder throught his career & will continue to be no better or worse for the next few years.

04/29/2003 | One of the greatest. Most WWE fans never realized it, but in the early 90's, Ron Simmons, aka Farooq in wwf, was a world champion in WCW. His run against Big Van Vader was one of the best. He also was a member of one of the most powerful tag teams, the Acqolytes. Quick spinebusters and powerslams off the ropes, no one does it faster or better than Ron Simmons
