This show had problems with its book, but the music is about the best ever to be heard on Broadway, and having Barbara Cook in the lead didn't hurt, either!

Candide is the greatest if the four great musicals for which Leonard Bernstein wrote the score. It is essentially an opera, though not performed as one. The show had problems with the "book" (story line), but the music raises it to 5-star status.
