Timisoara is a city in western Romania with a population of approximately 329,584. An Industrial City and home to Romania’s first tobacco mill, Timisoara was also the first European city lit by electricity. Timisoara is an ethnically diverse city, boasting quite a number of Germans, Hungarians, Serbs, Italians, Palestinians, and Greeks in its overall population. In 1989 an uprising in Opera Square against Nicolae Ceausescu was sighted as the beginning of the end of the Communist regime, as Communism fell a week later and Timisoara was named the first free town.
