Yeah it leaves an aftertaste because it is a Tequila that tastes like tequila. If you want a smooth tequila that tastes like water, buy Patron. If you want a smooth tequila that tastes like tequila buy cabo wabo. Quote from their website, "An assertive nose of sweet lime, orange and fresh herbs first excites the senses upon pouring; maturation in oak casks for 4 to 6 months further infuses our Reposado with a bold peppery flavor and hints of fruit that linger on the palate briefly, followed by a long and spicy finish. A truly incomparable tequila." Does that sound like a Tequila that leaves no aftertaste? Maybe do your research before you spend $50 dollars on tequila then you wont have to tell others you were disappointed.

I was soooooo disappointed in this tequila. I was expecting a smooth taste and got a surprise. It was harsh and left an aftertaste. wasn't expecting that for the price.
BigBlueAgave 01/16/2009
Very disappointing. Not horrendous, but for that price point, well, horrendous! Far too much burn to be enjoyable. For that price, Don Julio is much better. And when Luna Malvada hits the market, try it. You will never sip Cabo again!

Disappointed in this. Taste tested it next to Don Juilo and Centenario and it had a horrible flavor to it.

They have recently become more adept at "shakedowns". We were approached by 4 security guards, cornered, actually. The short story is, they thought we had drugs on us (we didn't) and they tried to extort $3,000.00 from us, or they threatened to call the Policia. We told them to go right ahead, and we would have of dozen Americans swear they were trying to SELL us drugs. That scared them, and they let us go immediately. This IS NOT what Sammy had in mind, but unfortunately, when you do business with these people (locals) you're going to learn, bribery, extortion, deception, drug-dealing, and Ho' slignin', is their way of life. Watch your ass, trust NO LOCALS, period. If you're not sure if they're lying, watch their lips, if they're moving, they're lying. I mean it, I live here, I love it, but never, ever, trust the locals. P.S.- they have cameras in Cabo Wabo restrooms, no bs. I know what you're thinking, "that's illegal", doesn't matter, no matter how much American money we bring here, it is still a third-world country, make no mistake.

Hey all, was at Cabo San Lucas earlier this week (07/16/08) And boy did i have a go of it. Obviously everyone has an opinion and everyone's experience is different so take that into mind....First I went there before 9 pm. Not open, so no problem, We come back at 930. Well think what you will but my girlfriend glided through the security with no problem. I then started right behind her, (mind you no drinks until this point) and was stopped for no reason and no reason was given when I questioned as to why I was stopped. As so it happened I sat there a minute and waited while about 10 or so people passed by me. All of which who were either women or of hispanic descent (maybe locals). At this point I started to wonder what the hell was going on, I asked the seguridad and was completely ignored. Only until the point of which I said, " Hey! If my money isn't good here lemme know and my girl and I will head out pal!" I showed him a hundred dollar bill and he grabbed my elbow and let me through. In my opinion at first this is the biggest racist shit hole I have encountered in my life! But I am at the famous CABO WABO so sure as shit I am going to have a good time at Sammy's place. So here is the rest of the story. We got there paid a premium for beer and mixed (4.50 and 8 for mixed) and got to get our ears hammered with a proverbial ice pick because the music was so loud to the Bee Gee's Staying Alive and other 70's rehashes. Lemme tell ya I love loud concerts and rockin out, but this was uncomfortable to say the least, not to mention the fact that the band didn't even know all the words, and tried to insert spanish words to compensate or even just do incomprehensible, "mmhmhm mhmh shn a do ba de ba do." Laughable to say the least. Honestly if you want to go to Cabo Wabo to say you have been there then do it. Get drunk before you get there unless you have a full wallet to spend. (I don't recommend using your ATM card unless you want a charge per use.) and if your a white guy good luck getting in. It was a Mexican sausage fest when I was in and quite frankly I didn't like the attitudes. Take into consideration this is my experience but I tell you what man it wasn't good.

Cabo Wabo Reposado is the best tequila I have tried. The flavor is robust and complex while still smooth and retaining plenty of agave bite. The Blanco is sweeter, a little more harsh, and with a strong agave note, although I prefer the deeper flavors and smoothness of the resposado. I prefer both over Patron Silver and Reposado respectively, which is good, but a little too mellow with little flavor, which I believe is why so many people like Patron. The Cabo Wabo Blanco is about $15 cheaper than Patron Silver as well. I also much prefer it to Don Julio Anejo which is almost a bourbon with overwhelming oak flavor and very little agave. It really doesn't taste much like tequila. Who cares who owns the company, Cabo Wabo is excellent tequila.

Found the Cabo Wabo Blanco smoother than Patron Silver. Going to try the Reposado this weekend.
cabo5150 05/11/2007
Cabo Wabo has a nice smell and goes down smooth, I would recommend Cabo to anyone who is looking for a good tequila to sip or mix. I like all three brands of Sammy's tequila, but prefer the Blanco flavor. I hope Sammy's does not sell his business, I heard rumors on the internet that there was a buyer.

I wanted to hate this because of all the hype. I hate Van Hagar. But the blanco turned out to be absolutely wonderful. Even the tequila gods over at Tres Agaves have put this near the top of their menu.
stanggt84 11/24/2006
The Blanco is probably one of my favorite tequilas and I have tried several. I find it to be a much better choice than the more popular and pricey Patron Silver. It has definite peppery bite without hiding the sweet almost fruity flavor of the agave. I can't really comment on the reposado or the anejo as I am not generally a fan of the woody flavor that comes from aging the tequila in the oak casks.

HIGHLY OVER RATED CUZ OF SAMMY HAGAR
scruffydog 01/20/2006
When in Mexico…don’t drink the water” (and the Cabo Wabo!). Although it’s not the worst tequila I have ever tasted, it is one of the most over rated "premium" tequilas I have ever tasted. To me, cheap tequilas have a “kerosene-like” taste that shocks the senses and leaves every subsequent sensation screaming for mercy. This, my friends, is Cabo Wabo. Personally, I would rather sip margarita-quality Cuervo than Cabo Wabo. Anyone who says different has never sipped good tequila. For the price you will pay for Cabo Wabo (overpriced!!), ANYTHING is a much better choice.
RockDog 05/20/2005
One of the poorer examples of a 100% agave tequila (reposado) I have had the (dis)pleasure of trying. Overpriced to boot!
stvision 04/10/2005
Good if you only have Cuervo as an option. Not very good. Over priced more than Patron. I mean, Sammy, I appreciate the fact that you love tequila like we all do, but stick to doing concerts. If you think this is good tequila, you haven't had good tequila yet.
PbMan 01/17/2005
Stopped in Sammy's bar on my return from Mexican Riviera Cruse. The Cabo Wabo Anejo was harsh compared to the Casa Nobel Anejo.
rghnw 10/06/2004
The Cabo Wabo Anejo Tequila is incredibly smooth, with loads of flavors, and a terrific finish. The best Tequlia I have ever had. The Cabo Wabo Reposado Tequila is a close second. However, the Cabo Wabo Silver Tequila is not one I would recomend - not at all smooth and leaves a not so pleasant aftertaste in the back of your throat.
Mossy 09/23/2004
This is simply not very good tequila. Strong chemical aftertaste that reminds me of cheap Korean soju. Anyone who favors this needs to try it-head-to-head with Don Julio or Herradura.

Great Tequila!!!!!!!!!!!
TequilaGorilla 08/29/2004
Sammy, I love your bar in Cabo San Lucas, but you Tequila is not very good (when taken as a shot). I feel it mixes OK but I would not buy another bottle of Cabo Wabo (anejo) again. Cabo Wabo Tequila is all hype and no quality, harsh with lingering aftertaste. Find another distilary Sammy!
cjose38 08/13/2004
Talk about methanol
froggy10 03/18/2004
Not the best I've tried, but Sammy makes a damn good tequila. Rather good I'd say. Smooth too and that's not an easy thing for a tequila.
Bajajoe 01/26/2004
simply the best you can buy
cjose 12/28/2003
I do not know what is worst, a shot of Cabo Wabo or a shot of keroseen.
