You're guaranteed a solid broadcast any time Jon Miller's on tv. Miller has a good sense of humor and calls a smooth, knowledgeable game. One of the very best all-around baseball commentators of my lifetime. Miller's even tempered and insightful. In my opinion, the same can't be said for his partner. Joe Morgan, without question was a terrific player for the great Reds teams of the 70's- obviously ,you don't win back to back MVP'S for no reason and the guy obviously belongs in the Hall. While it can be enjoyable to hear stories of the old days every now and then, and Joe certainly knows the ins and outs of the game, and is one of the great second basemen in history: Morgan is often irascible, self-righteous,and too much of a back in my day we didn't have... grump...an uneven, kind of awkward pairing.

Since baseball is, in the end, a poorly designed game made for nerds, some people wonder how I can listen to three hours of it on the radio at a time. The reason: Jon Miller. Not Jon only, of course, but he exemplifies everything that could interest me in the game. Great storytelling ability, wicked parodies of other broadcasters, nice reversion into Spanish from time to time. Has, incidentally, been accused of communism a few times by the idiots over at the Powerline blog.

Quality play by play personality, but watching Sunday Night Baseball is difficult because of Joe Morgan.

Quality announcer.

Miss you in Baltimore, Jon, and definitely not surprised at all your success.

The absolute best baseball voice. Just wish my Orioles had paid the freight to keep him as our own instead of letting him get away for the big time. He is the model all baseball sports casters should follow.

Jon deserves some kind of award for being able to work on a regular basis with Joe Morgan. Miller is the good-natured intelligent play by play counter to Morgan's grumpy know-it-all approach. Miller sometimes can become nauseas pampering Morgan or continuing on with something he thinks is cute or funny when it is not. He's much better when not saddled with Morgan.

Classic baseball commentator.

Jon Miller is a 4 out of 5 in my book. Many times national sports announcers will be accused of being biased towards a certain team but I've never sensed that from Miller. He isn't a very rowdy announcer but he has pretty good insight and most of the time it sounds as if he does his homework before calling a game.

Miller is one of the all-time best. And the team of Miller and Morgan is as good as there has ever been.

I cant think of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball without this guy.

So refreshing to hear a pro do baseball, it's so rare these days. Wish he didn't have to read all those stupid ditties for ABC and ESPN, but a buck's a buck and ya gotta do what the man says.

One of the great baseball voices ever. It doesn't matter if that's all he does because he's good at it.

Being a Giants fan, I have grown to love Jon and his vast knowledge of sports. He and Joe Morgan are excellent choices to represent Sunday Night Baseball and I love his impressions of Vin Scully. He cracks me up.

I lived in Baltimore when Jon Miller was the Orioles radio broadcaster. He was great, especially during rain delays. My wife, who is a lukewarm baseball fan, would gladly tune in his games just to hear him chat. After he was run out of town by the managing owner, Peter Angelos, one of my co-workers in our office drew a mustache on a photo of Angelos and titled the image Hitler lives in Baltimore. For years, that photo had a proud place in my office and after I moved to Wyoming, I kept that photo. Thank god ESPN carries the World Series on the radio, because that allows me to hear Jon do their play-by-play on a walkman. I may even turn on the TV, but I have it on mute to just listen to Jon. Yes, Jon is a character and that will drive a certain percentage of the population crazy. But, for me, it is a relief to have him on the air. Ill be sorry when he retires or dies.

He's a little geeky at times (granted, he is from the bay area) but overall I think he does a pretty good job. Great enthusiasm and I can tell he loves baseball. It's not just a job.

Great call, I am not a baseball fan, but I still enjoy his calls.
BeanoCook 02/07/2004
Yes he is good. I feel that I am getting tired of him but I could be confused because Joe Morgan is chitty.

The Harry Caray or Red Barber of our generation.

Jon Miller is a legend in the making. He is on the path of Buck, Scully, Barber, Kalas, Allen, Caray, and Harwell. I can not imagine Sunday Night Baseball without his platinum voice, laymen approach to the game and entre to Joe Morgan. How fortunate the Giants are to have picked him up. MLB and the viewers of Sunday Night Baseball are following that path toward Cooperstown.

One of the best. Smooth, knowledeable, well-prepared, and with a wonderful voice. Very nearly the perfect baseball radio play-by-play guy. Very much in the same region as Red Barber and Vin Scully.
Wally Ballou 06/30/2003
He's accepted the baton from Vin Scully as the best play-by-play man in baseball. Miller's 24-karat voice, humor, erudition, professionalism, and chemistry with partner Joe Morgan make ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" a top-notch telecast. He's even better doing the World Series on radio.
