 | magellan (174) 05/22/2003 | This song captures what I love about Wilco. It is melodic, with amazing lyrics, and sounds pleasing to the ear. But the poppy, catchy melody is set against a backdrop of hissing, growling distortion, rising and falling, making you feel that so much is lurking underneath the surface. Songs like Via Chicago run deep, and you sense that there is some dark, scary s*** hiding behind a lot of Tweedy's lyrics. An unbelievable song off of the amazing "summer teeth."

 | jder (1) 05/19/2003 | with the summerteeth release, this became, hands down, the best wilco song to date. it is matched today only by one or two songs from subsequent releases. "via chicago" perfectly marks the shift in wilco from writing rock songs to creating art -- deep, complex, moving and beautiful.
