 | jder (1) 05/22/2003 | for all of the greatness of yhf, this song doesn't do it for me. it seems to go nowhere: the repetitive verses, the bland melody, the unaffecting chorus, and the high-pitched sing-along vocal quality tend to bore me, and the quirky, noisy and over-produced musical qualities kind of annoy me. it doesn't exapnd or contract, it isn't dynamic, it's not particularly moving in any way, and -- for a song that's not emotionally powerful -- i wish it were at least more pleasant to listen to. tucked between "radio cures" and "jesus, etc" in the sequence, "war on war" merely comes and goes, and doesn't add much to my life as i pass the time listening. in the big picture, "war on war" is better than most of the crap being made today, but for a wilco song this is almost low-grade.
