 | jder (1) 05/21/2003 | This is Wilco's finest song to date. Like many of Tweedy's lyrics, these could stand alone as poetry -- and if they did, this would be his greatest poem yet. The music is interesting, beautiful, moving and complex -- reminiscent of, and perhaps outshining, some of the Beatles greatest work. It is an amazingly dynamic song. It expands and contracts and expands. Thematically, "Poor Places" is the key to YHF album. In the scope of Wilco's life, "Poor Places" is the culmination of the kind of ambition that created "Misunderstood" (from Being There), "Pieholden Suite" and "Via Chicago" (from Summerteeth). And, we can hope, it is also a sign of even greater things to come. This is the perfect song. It's overwhelming. It's art. It's a gift.
