Everyone should see the "Bob Tilton" Show! This is what happens when a "prosperity preacher" just drops all pretense and tells you to send him your money (sew in faith) and you will be financially blessed! Almost a farce!

I came across this wacko the other night on BET and of course I had to watch the remainder of it. It's funny how he's apparently making new shows yet the one I was watching mentioned the "new millennium" and had the copyright year of 1998. Why BET would air an 11-year-old show is beyond me but it was entertaining nonetheless. I used to watch this crazier-than-a-outhouse-rat man on TV all the time during summer vacation when I was in middle school. God, those were the days!

I don't approve of Tilton's ways, but I must confess that I miss him. He was fun to watch. My brother and I would get up early on Sundays just to drink coffee and watch Tilton. Tilton missed his calling (do you hear that Lord?). He was a very savvy marketer and his sermons, although in my opinion a bunch of bs, were delivered w/ enthusiasm and drama. I had not seen the guy in years until i was surfing around one night and saw him on BET......of course I watched the whole thing.

Whoever makes a vow to God violates Jesus' commandment to "Swear not at all" (Matt.5:33-36.  And the very notion that we can give God anything other than our whole devotion is ridiculous, because God already owns everything to begin with.  When preachers say "give to God" they're really saying "send money to ME".
When you're in a tough, hopeless situation you feel desperate and ready to try ANYTHING to get out of your jam.  It is then that the lines between sanctified common sense and a "leap of faith" become blurred and you leap out of the fire into the frying pan.
The Bible contains clear warnings for preachers who lead the ignorant or the desperate soul astray to take advantage of them.  It is better that a millstone be tied around his neck and he be drowned in the depths of the sea than that he make one of God's children to stumble in their walk of faith (Matt.18:6).
He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth, and he who gives to the rich shall surely come to poverty (Prov.22:16). Implying that God cannot bless you unless you make rich preachers richer is a lie out of the pits of hell and extortion of the poor.
What is it with Tilton?  Is he so busy counting his loot he has no time to read his own Bible?

Robert Tilton who once gave me the hope I needed to go forward in life, based all of his ministtry on Words taken directly from the Holy Bible. One can find the HOLY Scripture based teachings and requests for vows of faith and tithing (Christ Himself spoke of this), in all versions of the Christian HOLY BIBLE, to include Catholic Bibles.
Anyone who believes that they have enough GOD given revelation to judge a man claiming to be a prophet and/or a "Apple of GOD'S eye," should certainly rethink the "possibility" of false accusations towards this or any person (Mr Tilton), before perhaps making such claims against him. Remember, (and all Churches will agree), CHRIST Himself stated in no uncertain terms, "Judge not lest ye be judged, for in the same level of judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged before the Father in Heaven." This is more than enough to tame my tongue. I dont know about others. Brother Andy

On November 21, 1991 the ABC's PrimeTime Live aired the findings of a six-month investigation into Tilton's then estimated $80 million per year ministry. The segment on Tilton was by far the most damning. At its heart was the accusation that Tilton never saw the vast majority of prayer requests and personal correspondence sent to him by faithful viewers. On the air, Tilton promised to pray over each miracle-request. But on the ground, ABC said it found thousands of those requests and viewers' letters dumped in garbage bins in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Checks, money orders, and in some cases cash, food stamps, and even wedding rings sent by followers had been removed for deposit at a nearby bank. Lawsuits from outraged followers quickly followed, along with further media exposes concerning dumped prayer requests. (Tilton claimed the trashed prayer requests were part of a plot against the church.) State Attorney General Dan Morales launched a fraud investigation of Tilton's ministry, and the FBI and U.S. Postal Service subpoenaed the church's records the day after the ABC broadcast . 15 years later, Tilton is back with his show Success N Life. Federal records show that Tilton bought a 50-foot Carver motor yacht last year in Fort Lauderdale for $500,000. In July 1996, he told a judge in Dallas that he was living aboard and making $4,000 monthly payments on the boat, which he named the Liberty Leigh. (He is presently building a two-story home on a $1.39 million oceanfront lot on an island in Biscayne Bay off Miami Beach, and his ministry owns a 50-foot yacht. His ministry takes in about $24 million a year) Leigh Valentine, Tilton's ex wife said in a depposition: "Bob's mail ministry is a lie and a total deception. He does not write those letters. He did not even proofread them during our marriage. He makes it sound like [he's] writing to you right now, this is what God spoke to me for your life, Jesus will appear to you tonight; if you sleep with this little red cord under your pillow, you will prosper. He doesn't even know what's going out to those people, and he doesn't care, as long as they send their money in. One time he said in one of the letters that was sent, I will be taking these to the East Coast to pray for you by the ocean where Jesus prayed for his people. So we flew to Fort Lauderdale and we checked into a four- or five-star hotel on the beach and got a nice penthouse view... That is stealing from people. Most of those people are on welfare. They're little Hispanics and blacks. And he even said, what I do is I look at a map and we go after the ghettoes, we go after those on welfare, we go after those that don't read, those that are lower socioeconomic backgrounds. That's who we send our letters to..."

I have insomnia and occasionally I find myself surfing the TV in the early morning. I stumbled onto the 'good' reverend one night and ever since, I can't help but stop in to see him every once in a while. It is like a car wreck - you know it is awful, but you have to look. He is, without a doubt, the smarmiest of all of the TV evangelists - I feel like a shower after I have watched him. And, of course, it is obvious that it is all about the money with good ole Bob, because every other word is him begging for donations. I believe there is a special place in Hell for folks like Bob. Shame on him for bilking poor, sad, lost people just looking for a little respite.

The first time I came across Robert Tilton on TV I honestly thought he was doing a comedy skit. When he told the viewers to lay hands on the screen and feel the power of God,I almost hit the floor. As I watched for a short time and realized he was serious,I was stunned. I just can`t believe that people are still sending him money. HE IS A CROOK, HE LIES , AND IS ABOUT AS FAR FROM GOD AS YOU CAN GET. If you have money to give please, find a single mother and feed her family for a week

Here's another prosperity pimp who's been exposed on TV, and yet STILL has a following. I'm not ashamed to say that back in 1991, I sent this man $100 because he fooled me with his "Pay your vows to the Lord" rhetoric. It was a hard lesson learned, but I'm much more the wiser for it. My hope is that God will continue to open the eyes of more and more people, so they can finally turn off these prosperity pimps.

Per the previous post: so he isn't doing anything illegal huh. Wow, what standards he has. That false prophet can't talk about anything other than money. I would love to see people start attending and supporting their local churches instead of supporting these phoney tv personalities. I wonder how quickly these charletans would fold up their tents if people donated food and used clothing to help the poor instead of cash. I still don't understand why these tv people have to have such extravagant lifestyles. I don't buy that crap that they are doing God's work so they are being blessed. I know people that struggle to make ends meet, donate time and money to the less fortunate and they haven't been blessed with planes, money, jewels, Mercedes, Rolex watches etc.

Robert brings up some fond memories. Having lived in Dallas for a number of years, Robert had built his Word of Faith empire and was having his way financially with all of the down and outs in the country. As I drove by the headquarters (which has since been torn down), I couldn't help but notice that he had a higher level of connectivity to his customers than ExxonMobil! This dude was connected! Anyway, my co-worker and I were coming back from a business trip one Friday from the DC area and as usual, US Scare was the only game in town to get us back that day. As we were waiting in line, Mr. GQ Tilton came in with his "gode changes" and stood there like he was the almighty himself. We knew these flights were traditionally sold out but we took a chance on getting back to Dallas before Saturday. As the ticket agent was typing away, checking the status of seats on the flight, we noticed Robert getting agitated. He was doing the ol' soft-shoe tap dance and we wondered if he had to go to the bathroom or, if I had ADD (Not to knock the ADD afflicted people of the world). Anyway, my co-worker and I received the last two seats on the flight and as we were walking to the gate, we heard someone behind yell "Do you know who I am"? We cracked up and continued our trek to the gate... I wonder if that is why Robert isn't in Dallas anymore? Naw, I think people would have brought out there pitchforks had he stayed there. Oh, one more funny thing! Remember the Robert Tilton tithing t-shirts? It had a pic of him on the front with his hands strategically placed over the pocket with a sign sayin "place money here".... I wished I bought one of those!

I think it's about time that someone set the record straight concerning Pastor Robert Tilton...let me tell you that I myself am a pastor and I know Bob Tilton personally and am in contact with him personally by email and regular mail and also with his church in Miami. In fact, I just sent my Christmas present to he and his wife Maria. Yes, there is a lot of negativism and bad reports about Bob on the Internet but I can absolutely assure you that the majority of it are mere lies created by newspaper reporters, the media and anyone who dislikes Bob's style and message (such as Ole Anthony of Trinity Foundation). Bob acknowledges himself that he has made plenty of mistakes and done things wrong in his life and ministry - after all, who hasn't? Especially when you're the brunt of the whole US news media and involved in lawsuits for about 5 years, what normal person could stand up under the pressure? The fact is that Bob emerged from it all and is still in ministry today, running not only his Success-N-Life TV show but also pastoring churches in Florida and Nevada and also helping many churches in India, Mexico, Brazil etc. Maria Tilton is running the 'Love The Children' foundation, helping needy children. The Tiltons contributed in a big way to recent relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina victims, especially the children who lost nearly everything. If you don't like the message of prosperity and vowing, just don't bother watching. Everything Bob teaches is in the Bible, even if you don't believe the Bible yoy can't deny that those verses aren't in there! As with any ministry, it needs money and regular income so instead of getting on the air and begging for funds for this need and that project, Bob teaches entering into a faith covenant with God and tithing. The testimonials are NOT faked and also Bob and Maria tithe and are great givers themselves. He BELIEVES what He preaches, which is more than some ministers do. People CHOOSE to make vows and give to his ministry, they're not forced to. I strongly believe in freedom of religion. Those who don't believe in divine healing or prosperity are not criticised and just believe what they want to - it ought to be the same way for 'Word of Faith' believers. Rather than getting into any worthless theological debate, let me just conclude by saying that Robert Tilton is without doubt a true man of God who, yes, may have made some mistakes and errors - God has forgiven him for them, so should all of us - he's not ashamed to speak in tongues on TV - even if you still persist in thinking that he's a charlatan, you ought to know by now that he is NOT doing anything illegal and that your criticism will not stop him from doing what he does. If, like I have been privileged to do, you were to personally know and be in touch with Mr Tilton, your thoughts and opinions would be very different. That's something to think about!

I'll give Tilton two stars only because the Farting Preacher series is one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen. Tilton's strange facial contortions go well with fart sounds. Seriously, though, Tilton is not a good guy. He knowingly shilled desperate people out of their money because he claimed to have been receiving "commands from God". The saddest thing about the whole Tilton scandal is that Bob will probably never have to work again, having secured enough money from people who believed in him to settle down and retire.

I can't believe anyone would send this guy a dime. Do a google search for crying out loud and see some of the things he has done. Getting drunk, beating your wife, and bilking people out of their last dollar doesn't sound very Christian to me. Why are these people of God that are on TV, millionaires several times over? So let me see if I have this right. Someone has lost their job, is being evicted and they are to send him thousands of dollars because that shows their faith in God and then wonderful things will start to happen? Why doesn't his ministry minister to those in need and help them out instead of the other way around. I bet no one that sends him money every reaches his wealthy status. Does God have an economic line that can't be crossed by his followers only by Tilton himself?

He's older now, more subdued, his hair is grayer. I used to love him way back when and actually taped some of his old broadcasts. I watched one recently, and I know why I was a fan. This guy really put on a show. He ranted, he cried, he healed afflicted people right through the TV set, he spoke in tongues, he crawled on the prayer requests his followers sent him (he claimed the ink seeped into his pores and gave him a small stroke), and occasionally would even recite some Scripture. Now the Scripture is pretty much a thing of the past, as is the speaking in tongues. What hasn't changed is the blatant appeal for the dollars of the poor deluded saps who believe in this stuff. I guess he's laughing all the way to the bank, but if there really is a God, then this guy must be destined for the hottest part of Hell there is. Hopefully, the Devil has a sense of humor.

UPDATE: Hallelujah! He's gone from Baltimore's airwaves. He has been MIA on the Fox station that was broadcasting his show. He has been replaced in the Holy Roller line-up by an infomercial produced by a local car dealer. ****** God Almighty, what a wicked man! Did you or did you not, godslove, see Dianne Sawyer's report on him some years back? He had the bank dispose of people pictures and letters pleading for help into the garbage while harvesting the money, jewelry, etc. sent to him. So what you paid your pledge to this consummate con man, God's love and His blessings cost nothing! They're free for all who believe in Him and do His will. You can't bribe God to do your bidding with money or anything else. That kind of thinking is blasphemous! The man's a consummate televangelistic vampire arisen from the grave of infamy. He should be in prison instead of a million dollar estate. BTW Karonius reminded me of an incident in Baltimore where a televangelist had the doors looked at the Civic Center when he did not receive enough money to meet his goals. It was said in the now defunct News American that he threatened the audience to either pay up, or they were not getting out. I guess it's all part of cheating the greedy and desperate as they pass from one city or country to another to bilk their way to the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Bob's now on broadcast television again (damn Robert Johnson for letting him on BET in the first place, some kind of advocate for black people, huh?) only to tell people to give him all their money as usual. Faithseed, smaithseed, it's all baloney!
