McEldowney is sometimes too clever for the good of the story. His art is first-rate and the concept is very inventive adult fantasy and I have followed it since its very first strip. Unfortunately he is now becoming a bit insular and self-indulgent, and, I think in part because he's become more ambitious in wanting to widen the breadth of his canvas, the pace of the story is absolutely glacial in an ongoing strip. At this point he's started with what I count are three or more seemingly completely unrelated threads with no attempt yet after three months or more to relate any of them to each other. As a long-time fan, I also have to say I get a bit tired of Pib and Dru getting killed repeatedly, trussed up and tortured, burned alive, impaled and other particularly sadistic torments, and then having to be rescued. I appreciate his ambition and his talent, but I'd enjoy it more in a standalone book that I could read at a sitting rather than getting three to nine polygonal panels per week, and I frankly like less violent and more cerebral plotlines.

The artwork is always clever, occasionally astonishing, and invariably beautiful. The artist recently sank far enough to borrow a plot from Shakespeare, but his artwork improved it. Bill would have been delighted, but jealous.

This may be the most beautifully drawn comic strip of all time. The storylines are quirky, intelligent, and humorous.

Loved 9 Chickweed Lane and just discovered Pib. Loved it so much I bought the comics.com memberhip so I could read the whole strip from the beginning. Worth every penny.

Wonderful graphic effects, Slow storytelling... But an interesting story... Addictive. If someone tries reading only a couple of strips, they will not get it. Unfortunately, the strip is changing to 3 days a week, so I'd recommend anyone who wants to try reading read a full month before giving it thumbs down or up. I just wish more than a month was available online.

Great stories when read quickly....one a day sort of loses the flow. Can't wait for a book form. My main complaint is all the female characters have the same long and lean body shape. How about some real women?

Cutting edge sexuality will probably keep it out of the general press, but hopefully it will continue to be available on the net. Love it!

Best ongoing story tell comic strip out there!!!!

I started in the middle of the last storyline. This time I picked up from the start. For those who believe it to be hard to follow... you do need to get in at the start of the story. The cliff-hanger-cum-soap opera style narrative is what gets you addicted. The visual storytelling is what the purist in me longed for in previous similar media(Calvin&Hobbs/Bloom County)and the '90's graphic novels. Mceldowney , You exceed anyone in the business. Keep it accessible please, and YES,we fans will buy a book.

I have been reading pibgorn for over a year. Not too sweet, not too deep. I an hooked.

Love the storylines and the art -- strip comics are mostly sadly lacking in fantasy; this strip has it in abundance.

There a saucy sensuality to the women characters that is woefully lacking in most other comics. What is both intriguing and enticing is at the same time Pib possess a girlishness that makes her at once innocent and fresh; while Dru is Woman personified in that she is both strong and vulnerable and wise and scatterbrained all at the same time... What's not to love about these gamine characters. The insight into the feminine psyche shown by Mr. McEldowney is remarkable -- he truly makes them real. If taken individually the panels don't always stand on their own, but as an ensemble his stories sing with such an enticing melody you become quickly addicted. A book of all the strips would be both welcomed and acquired!

Great storyline and art.

Can't praise it highly enough. Pibgorn's characters and plots (and those of McEldowney's other strip, 9 Chickweed Lane) are intelligent, witty, sexy, ferocious, wry, innocent, complicated, literate, sarcastic, humane, knowing, elegant and sophisticated. A comic strip for grown-ups and other civilised people, in other words. No wonder no American newspaper dares touch it.

This comic is great! I love the fantasy inspired storyline, and the relationship building between Pib and Geoff. Pib is the kind of sweet, sexy, innocent girl that most men long for (including me)! I agree with the need for a book with the complete storyline so far.

I am in love with everything about this comic strip, and in lust with both Pib and Dru. Pib is free and selfless, innocently sensual and sexy/beautiful in the way only a true ingenue can be, and instantly affectionate and easy to get close to. Dru is hungry sensuality ready to grab and take you - both are extremely attractive. McEldowny gets what makes women sexy and in both Pibgorn and 9 Chickweed Lane he is not afraid to let his female characters be sensual and sexy. Unfortunately, Pibgorn will probably never be a Sunday comic in your typical newspaper because of that, but we can always hope. Oh, and an engaging story line and good character development don't hurt either (I don't get the guy that says it's hard to follow??!!).

Dru's hot.

Imaginative in storyline and artwork. Miles above the typical comic strip.
Kikki Polke 04/29/2004
Interesting artwork can't save the storyline that is nearly impossible to get close to.

Pibgorn - the best cartoon strip ever. She is my alter-ego! I need my daily fix of these brilliant stories. WHY oh WHY is there not a pibby book out? Brooke, please please when can we have a book with all Pibby`s stories in it from the very start?
