Memorable to be sure, but essentially no more significant than similar cellar to championship stories in which a formerly lowly franchise knocks off a heavily favored colossus: the 1914 Braves for example. Since it took place in NYC, it's gotten some more attention than it really should've.

If it had been a non-NYC team, it would have been a ho-hum news story.

Interesting largely because of the transformation of the team, in less than a decade, from inept clowns, to Series champions.

Whoever is averaging these ratings needs a math class.

They don't get enough praise IMHO. They were predicted to get trampled by the Orioles and had never finished higher than 9th place.

A great era in NY sports. Baltimore was in bad luck. It wasn't just the Miracle Mets beating the O's. ... How 'bout the Jets beating the Colts in SB 3 or the NY Knicks humiliating the Baltimore Bullets every playoff year?

Ahhh it was OK, I know that the Mets were a major surprise that year, I'm not a Mets fan and wasn't alive to see it, but I wouldn't call it great

In terms of drama, pales compared to the exploits of Bobby Thomson, Kirk Gibson, or Joe Carter. The Mets were up 3-1 in the series and the series clincher (a routine put-out) lacked the drama of the walk-off. But you had to be there (I was a young, but a pretty knowledgeable fan back then). The Mets came out of the depths of moribund play for years, made an improbable drive to the pennant. That's what is truly memorable about it. What the Mets did back then would be tantamount to seeing the Tampa Bay Devil Rays win it all starting right now.

I remember it well. It was a classic "underdog" victory, the kind of thing you only expect to see in the movies. I'm no Mets fan today, but will always be happy for the exciting Mets of 1969.
