Jar Jar is a geek, C-3P0 is a nerd. He keeps bringing up facts and he doesn't want to do anything fun. He was an eternal downer unless everything was going awesome. He's never going to get laid and everyone thinks he's gay but he isn't. And on top of that he's got an English accent. And everyone wants to beat him up except the E-Woks, who only pretend they like him in order to fulfill some E-Wok prophecy. Well, at least he can speak 6 billion dialects and knows when the negative power couplink is broken.

PBeavr's comments largely sum up my feelings. The fans who interpret the films as though they were holy writ conveniently forget that they have, since the second film, been vehicles for a huge toy and memorabilia business.
