I love the little droid myself. Him and Threepio are a funny pair. He does seem to swear though, but I find it funny when Threepio tells him "watch your language!".He's my favorite character of all in SW.

Ah, but consider this: He knew all along that Vader was Luke's father and he didn't say squat to Luke. The little bucket of bolts knew EVERYTHING and said NOTHING. UPDATE: Git, he and C3PO are the Star Wars "Greek Chorus."

Reading some of the comments below amuses me. Some folks on RIA are pretty easily impressed if they think an inverted garbage can with blinking lights and a microwave beeper is an actor. Of course, now that I've been on this site a while, not much surprises me.

The Steve Kerr of Star Wars. . .always in the right place at the right time to provide that little bit of help to push the team over the edge to victory. . .

The almost perenially cheerful Droid (no thanks to the golden sourpuss). Gizmos, gadgets and spunk, too! It's funny how if you watch the films a couple of times you can tell when R2 is sad, happy or agitated - you get to know the sounds.

Five just for shocking Crumb.

R2 is phat. Not wack, PHAT!! R2 is the reason C3PO ALMOST became a real...uh...a real robot MAN. R2 tried to show C3PO how to have a pair of robot nuts...it's not HIS fault C3 didn't listen! Give the little guy some credit! NMAD!

Boy that droid swears a lot

R2-D2 is fo-shizzle tight

Even in the context of Star Wars, R2's not that impressive, though I must say I am sometimes amused with his dialogue with C-3PO. Nonetheless, certainly not my favorite character.

R2 D2 may times, I think is the voice of reason. He's more of a sidekick to 3PO, but sometimes I think he's smarter.

He didn't add a lot but is still one of the main characters of Star Wars so you gotta like him I guess. Irishgit, there was actually an actor inside the R2D2 costume by the way. Update: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0048652/ While he may not be an actor in this movie, he is still an actor in others chief, so technically his career is an actor so I will refer to him as so.

I love R2 D2. The other characters that I think are as good as him are C3P0 and Luke and Yoda
freebird_0128 07/07/2004
The film wouldn't have been the same without his snotty bleeps and helpful actions. A skillful droid and good friend(if robots can be counted as friends), plus you must give the guy credit for having to put up with C3P0.

R2-D2 is a pure classic character, and it's amazing what his begginings are, he was a remote control robot before Star Wars, key word BEFORE! Thats how advanced the world is getting.
Jamie McBain 06/08/2004
I would rather own R2-D2, then C-3P0.

He is the nicest robot and thats without understanding him
