At it's worst, bluegrass is a cacophony of noise unmatched even by extreme metal. Many bluegrass players are not real musicians and the vocals are notoriously irritating. However, there are some aces in the genre playing mellow melodic music. Again like metal, bluegrass prizes speed. I used to tune instruments for bluegrass players because they couldn't do it themselves.

I have never understood the attraction to Bluegrass music.

At its best, the music is astonishing, although I tend to share oscar's opinion of the vocalizing.
In addition there's nothing worse than hearing some country bar band play "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" at 3/4 speed and play it real, real bad.

Some amazing Musicians...however, once they start "singing ," it sounds like a goat getting raped ...

I like Blugrass some of it. I prefer the instrumental parts a lot more than the singing. the singing is a bit too twangy for me. there are some very good instrumental bluegrass songs out there. I like the upbeat ones best.

I cant say I'm much into the trad hillbilly stuff with its screeching fiddles and high-pitched nasally vocals. But the more progressive/fusion sounds of people like David Grier, Tony Rice, Dan Crary, Alison Krauss, Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas are all pretty excellent. Mind you, they are all supreme virtuosos which makes it all very listenable.

No offense to all the lovers of this music, but it can bring the dead person back to life just to turn this music off.

The only country music I have ever liked on a large scale. Best experienced as instrumental without someone whining the vocals. In its purest form you can hear the Scotts Irish coming through.

Wonderful, pure music played with the guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle. What is great about bluegrass playing is the improvisation it can be played either fast or slow. The singing can be beautiful with the rich vocal harmonies.
