I do like a light country sound with a pop flavor to it. That way, I'm getting the best of both styles. But I really cannot stand twang, for the most part.

Two stars based on modern country, which might as well be the Spice Girls putting on boots and Stetsons.

Performers like Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Johnny Cash, and the more recent guys like David Allen Coe and Waylon Jennings deserve better than this current crop of clowns.

The oldtimers were good, especially Cash, Williams, Cline, etc... and a rather obscure fellow named Mickey Newbury was a decent songwriter, in my view, if not much of a singer. The glitzy garbage they have now is , at best, essentially bad pop music...

Modern 'country' is bad rock music sung by guys in big hats with fake hillbilly accents.

Classic country (from white Jimmy Rogers to Hank Williams to Kitty Wells to Dolly Parton) is pure American genius.

Country isn't what it used to be. It has turned into some sort of watered down southern rock. There are still the traditionlists, such as George Strait, who are keeping the old sound alive. But for the most part, country has taken a turn for the worse.

While there are always exceptions, some of the reasons that I like country music are:

1. You can understand the lyrics.

2. I can often relate to the subject matter.

3. It generally isn't overpolitical, and when country songs do delve a little in the political side of things, I can generally agree with what is said.

4. I just generally like the sound of the music. It has catchy melodies, and I like the sound of guitars, fiddles, steel guitars, etc. There really isn't enough steel guitar and fiddle in country music today, and it's too bad.

I like almost all classic country music, such as Hank Williams Sr., Hank Williams Jr., George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and the list goes on. Even though a lot of more modern country music has kind of forgotten where it came from, there is still a lot of good stuff out there, such as George Strait, Brad Paisley, Gretchen Wilson, Sara Evans, Trace Adkins, Alan Jackson, etc. But unfortunately we also have to hear stuff like Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, and Shania Twain mixed in with the good stuff.

Sometimes, when I get down about life I think, well at least I'm not living in the US where they have to put up with the same old same old, nasal dirging that is country music. Well I do like some of Steve Earle's stuff but then he's not truly part of the country scene.

I didn't give country music a CHANCE until I started dating who is now my fiance'; too much twang, too much depression. But, after listening to enough country to be fair, it's not too bad. Actually, a lot of pop music is just remade from country songs (and vice versa, as much as popular music fans don't want to hear it, it's true, get over it. My sister swears up and down that she hates country, but has Lonestar, Shania Twain, Lee Ann Womack and other country CDs. Hypocrite.) It's not as bad, once you give it a chance, and get used to the twang--sometimes songs with too much steel guitar in it gets on my nerves still, but I'm getting into it more. If you let go of your biases against country music and give it a chance, I think many people would find at least soem of it enjoyable. (Besides, you HAVE to laugh at a song that's titled She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy!) UPDATE: Hey, metal666 . . . I think I hardly qualify as a redneck. You might not like the stuff, which is fine, but you might want to watch yourself before making generalizations.

Sucks ass. . .too whiny. . .modern country female artists are simply models or underage girls. Country has sold its soul. . .look what they did to Cash a few years ago. . .they need all their stars to look pretty and young.

Boring music. No action to many of these lame songs. I can't stand listening to country crap. It sux! ... However, some of the female singers (Lee Ann Womack, Leann Rimes) are quite attractive.

I love everything about Country music. In Country, the lyrics are the main focal point of the songs. They can be funny, serious, sad, or a mixture of all. I like the fact that there are very few swear words in Country music. I'm also a big fan of twang - in fact, if I don't get my daily allowance of twang I'm just not right ;) Also, there are a ton of great guitar players in Country music, like Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Vince Gill, Chet Atkins, etc. People think that there aren't guitar solos in Country music. Well, you ain't listening if that is what you think. Paisley is one of the best pickers I've ever seen. Listen to I'm Gonna Miss Her by Brad Paisley if you want to hear a funny song. Listen to God's Will by Martina McBride if you want to hear a sad one. And listen to The Blues Man by Alan Jackson if you want to hear a serious song, with some outstanding guitar playing.

The older country music is really great music. I love alot of the story telling that goes on in the songs from those days. I don't really care for the newer country of today, and that is because most of it sounds so much the same and if it wasn't for a little bit of twang here and and a twang there it would really just be pop music anyway.

I've found in the past two years since 9/11 that country music has helped me a lot. I lost a dear friend in the tragedy, a man who loved country music and cowboy hats. I began to listen to it after he died in remembrance of him, smiling when I wondered if he liked this song or that one. I got hooked on the emotion that country music can portray -- it can make you laugh, cry, drive too fast, think about the things going on around you. And since then, I've met a lot of country singers at festivals -- Diamond Rio, Trick Pony, Darryl Worley, Toby Keith. They are all really nice, down-to-earth people who don't mind taking a little time out of their schedule to come say "hi" and sign an autograph. I'm sorry, but I don't see much of that at the rock and pop concerts, where the artists hurry back to the bus to avoid their "fans".

Country music sucks in my opinion! I listen to teen pop, world music, and r & b instead of boring country music.

It depends on the kind of Country music you're talking about. If it's the classic era of C&W, i.e., pre-1965, it's a five star genre: Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, Ferlin Husky, Webb Pierce, Kitty Wells, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, early Johnny Cash, Bill Monroe. If it's this garbagey "Hollywood" country with interchangeable plastic moving performers, it's zero stars. Contrary to popular belief, the core concerns of C&W aren't God, Country and Religion: the core concerns of C&W are drinkin', fussin', feudin', and infidelity down at the motel. Essentially a form of blues for crackers, which, when confined to that, is perfectly fine. Once you start injecting pop elements into it, it sux.

There was a time in my life that I couldn't stomach country music. If it even hinted at the slightest country sound (fiddles, banjos, harmonicas, etc.) I loathed it! This was during my teen years; when country was not the music of choice for most of my peers. I was a staunch fan of "Top-40" rock, which was pretty strange since I grew up around various styles of music, particularly country-western (which my father favored). In recent years, I've developed a strong appreciation for various types of music, especially country. I have long since come to realize what terrific music it really is, and the more I listen to it, the more I love it! Randy Travis is my favorite country artist!

As far as country music is concerned, if it ain't Johnny Cash, I don't wanna hear it! The rest just doesn't appeal to me in any way.

Real country music is a source of endless joy for me. I grew up listening to some of the all-time greats like Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty, Dolly Parton, and Tanya Tucker, and it continued on with singers like George Strait, Ricky Skaggs, Reba McEntire and Keith Whitley. My mom and dad always had this great music playing and it just sank in with me. I love pretty much all kinds of music, but country is my favorite.
