Hip-hop was way better in the 70's and 80's than the Auto-tuned, sex-pot it is now.

Not my style if I can't understand the words or I can and find them depressing. I listen to music to calm, inspire, or entertain, and I have heard rap that fits the latter two qualifiers... so those select songs, I like.

Rap/Hip Hop is like scraping the roof of your mouth off and then chewing on glass mixed with salt while hanging upside down by your toes and having your head dunked in battery acid. Sorry don't care for the stuff.

Most rap should be spelled with a c, but it's not all crap.

Though elements of the style can be traced back to Africa, modern rap (toasting over pre-recorded tracks) originated in the '60s on the island of Jamaica, pioneered by such stars as Prince Buster, Duke Reid and Sir Coxsone Dodd. Jamaica's biggest and most influential rap star was a toaster by the name of U. Roy (real name: Ewart Beckford), but rap was brought to The Bronx by a toaster (rapper) named Kool Herc (real name Clive Campbell aka Hercules) in 1967. A few years later, Herc had competition from Americans such as Afrika Bambaataa and Grandmaster Flash (real name: George Saddler ).  1979's Rappers Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang was American rap's first hit record. Rick "The Prick" Rubin saw the graffitti on the wall and produced the first rap mega hits by Run-D.M.C. and Public Enemy and the rest is music biz history...

Don't mind if you like it or if it suits you, but please don't listen to it in my presence if your earphones aren't absolutely soundproof.

If you rap when I'm around I'll leave. Please don't try to rap in my home.

Actually, rapping began with folks on the street just talking and "shooting the breeze" on a daily basis in the late '60's. The term was then associated with talking on recordings by the younger generation. I rapped every time I went out and meet up with any interesting character. We spoke frankly and passionately about current events, the weather, our kids, our jobs, etc. Thus, rapped!

I can't listen to it. It all sounds the same...monotonously bad and non-musical...the people who perform it, whatever their race, are interchangeable in terms of their dress and mannerisms, and, at the risk of sounding like a closet elitist, it bothers me when people I've never heard of performing "music" I wouldn't listen to if you paid me live in opulent mansions and drive 4 or 5 BMW's. African Americans have been responsible for the best music, and I have to imagine that somewhere Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, and Johnny Ace are rolling over in their graves whenever this dreck gets played.
