Particularly the more mellow-sounding ska, but it gets annoying after a while...

At it's best, it has some decent horn parts, and only mildly irritating vocals. At it's worst, it's like nails on a chalk board.

Every 15 years or so there is a world music revival and ska usually comes back and gets the suburban kids dancing.  At its best it is a taster for a new gneration to explore world music, at its worst it gets pompous and messy.  But it was probably the British ska that was an offshoot of the late 70's punk scene that opened my young ears to music from the bigger world.

I haven't heard a whole lot of ska but what i have heard i think is ok. Its a little too happy sounding for me though. A lot of this music makes me feel like i should be doing the Carlton Dance.

Ska music was a legitimate music force in the 60's with the Specials and the English Beat in the 80's. Howvever the ska movement of the 90's and today is just crap.

Ska really irritates me. A bunch of white boys dressed in dress shorts and skinny ties and holding trombones and stuff. Which is funny because I really like reggae. Maybe because reggae is just ska slowed down, which makes it infinitely less obnoxious. Ska is only kind of good when it is mixed with hardcore punk, but even that gets annoying and tedious real quick. I don't know. I think of myself as musically pretty open-minded, but anything to do with ska or a mariachi band makes me want to go live in a cave in Madagascar.

It's fun, it's got a good beat, it's not serous, and you can dance to it! What's not to like?? My favorite music of all times!

Very fun music, I wish it were still more popular now as it was a few years back. Always upbeat, gets you going. Not for everyone, but I like it.

Ska music is pretty good, but not at all my favorite. One thing I have against ska is that some of it has too much heavy-metal and punk rock elements, but when it doesn't, ska is exciting upbeat music.
