Located in the Peruvian desert, the Nazca Lines depict various drawings of animals and symbols - but on a massive scale. Visible only from aircraft, there has been much speculation as to how the Nazca Lines were created, and why. (Add picture)

There is still so little we know about the civilization that lived hundreds and thousand of years ago in South America that all speculations could contain some truths. But unless we discover compelling evidence, we should continue to be skeptical and let science do its work. There is a logical and clear explanation for the origin of the lines and we will eventually find it. In the meantime, I agree with ma duron, keep the fantastic explanation speculators off and don't give them any credibility. And certainly, not your money.

Wonderful. Fascinating: Just keep von Daniken out of the equation.

An early alien attempt at a planetary advertising billboard. They use clear-cut logging methods now. UPDATE: BirdEgal202 observes that mikeholly might be a little off his rocker. LOL. Just a little? You must be new here BirdEgal. Welcome.

Not really much of a mystery, I saw pictures at a museum and apparently they were made as tribute to the gods. And another thing. Mikeholly seems to be a little off his rocker in beleiving that ancient civilizations had planes. Yes there may be heiroglyphs and writings of flight, probably a common wish of ancient people but you could also so that because there are writings by Native Americans on teepees of raven creating the world and bringing the sun to human kind, doesnt mean that a raven brought the sun to the people.

If the lines are from a UFO landing strip, it would imply the use of wheels, the native americans never had use of the wheel, therefore they could never have seen it,s use or they have copied it

It is not unlikely that a civilization as ingenious as the Incas could stumble upon elementary surveying techniques, and use them to create these drawings. The priests were also waaaay into hallucinogenic drugs, which made them feel completely dissociated from the earth, like they were flying, and they probably put these designs on the ground so they could appreciate them while they were 'flying' about in their psychedelic stupor. Seriously, anyone who was at all motivated (like the religious) could produce works like these. We are amazed only because the Incas were the only people to do something like this, and Peru is one of the few places where millenia-old etching would still be evident and uneroded.

The Nazca lines, in my opinion, are proof of ancient flight in prehistoric South America. More proof includes gold airplanes from ancient tombs in Colombia and a Mayan sarcophagus lid from Mexico that depicts what seems to be an astronaut inside his rocket.

People drew lines in stone, yeh so what? I once drew a huge "happy face" in a softball field, why isn't this on the list??
