Great in church, but unless it's a special occasion or something like that, I wouldn't listen to it outside of church.

Christian Music is a great way of expressing how you feel. This also helps you by the way you are feeling. It's soothing, relaxing, and calm... at times. This is why christian gets a five star rating.

If I want to shove propaganda down my throat I'll swallow a copy of Mao's Little Red Book...

Due to a lack of description, and considering that Christian music often means "Contemporary Christian music," my 1 star rating is for Contemporary Christian music. While the message is generally good, the music itself is typically rather boring. Not to mention that some of the more diehard fans seem a little cult like.
Other music that woud fall under a the broader umbrella of Christian music, such as more traditional hymns and other typical church music, as well as some Southern Gospel, are great, and if this item was meant to include those as well, I would definitely bump this up to three stars.

A mixed bag to say the least. The praise band stuff would make God Himself roll His eyes for the most part, but there are bands like Skillet out there that are making pretty solid music.

I've heard some traditional gospel and what for lack of a better term I'll call "traditional Christian folk" that I liked a great deal, and I've heard one or two things by "Christian" bands that were musically and lyrically very tight and very good.
Some of it, however, is the musical equivalent of taking a fastball to the berries.

Hard to rate since-- it's a phantom genre! As with my crisisim of the "New Age" genre, it's impossible to rate something so nebulous. Nothing holds it together from a musical perspective. It is all centered around lyrical content only. All of it promotes a Christian message, other than that-- anything goes. I've heard Christian lyrics set to every imaginable form of music from sugary sap to pop to mind-melting heavy metal. How is that a definable kind of "music"? How can anyone LOVE or HATE all of it? I've heard "love" lyrics applied to all those forms of music too-- do we group all such songs together and call it the "love music" category? If someone does "love" or "hate" all of it, are they really listening to the "music" at all? It's nonsensical to rate it at one extreme or the other.

Christian music has changed and taken on new styles within the last 30 years. What was once "gospel" music started to branch out in the 1970s when young artists like Larry Norman (whose best known song was "The Rock That Doesn't Roll") started to become popular. The more upbeat Christian music was met with resistance by many of the traditionalists but as the younger generations made it their own, eventually the newer music became Christian mainstream. To a certain extent I agree with some of the other reviewers that a percentage of it has a country sound to it but there are also a lot of songs which have an almost old style folk sound (similar to the 1960s group "The Seekers" ), some is what could be termed a "modern" sound, and a small segment borders on the radical. Certain parts of the country still have an audience that prefers old style traditional gospel music but mainstream Christian rock is growing and evolving and in my opinion, I like the new direction. If you're into something like Deicide and death metal you won't find anything that suits your taste and, as evidenced by reviews in this and other categories, some people will never give a fair shake to anything that has the name "Christian" in front of it but I guess I should expect nothing less from my "tolerant" friends on the left. However, if you'll listen with an open mind as well as an open ear, you'll find that along with songs that sing of Jesus and have themes such as the Holy Spirit, there are also many songs which are Christian in theme, yet could easily cross over into the secular market without anybody's sensibilities being compromised.

Christian music has many different styles. Contemporary, rock, country, jazz, bluegrass, operatic, and much more. I love good Christian music.

Too uptight and polite sounding. Where's the heart and passion?

At times Christian music tends to be boring. But some songs are really good. It is very inspiring. I don't know if this song includes in Christian music but is one of my favourite. It is Benny Hester's 'When God ran' from his album 'Personal Best'. Christ lives and still loves us through His wounds.

I enjoy light Christian music when I can on the radio...i like the songs Friends, Lord I Lift Your Name On High, His Strength Is Perfect and Prayer. And another one I can't think of, right now.
dpostoskie 05/03/2005
Boring, they take 90 percent of other music tracks and throw new words to the beats.
CherrySoda99 04/09/2005
There are a lot of awesome Christian groups out there that I love. Michael W Smith, DC Talk, Jaci Velasque, Point of Grace, Petra (for the rock fans), Tim Hughes (for the worship fan), and Switchfoot (for any fan really)

Overall, I don't care for this because most of it has a country music twang that I detest. Also, the artists come across as opportunist wanna-be country singers. It's as if they're banking on a built-in audience/following just because they're singing about the Christian experience. It may not be true, but that's how it affects me. The only spiritual music I've ever liked has been either the old classical stuff or the songs that are based on or sound like Jewish music.
Jar-Jar Binks 03/21/2005
No friggin' way. ... I don't think Jesus Christ would wanna listen to this. If He hears it, He's probably rolling his eyes up and shaking his head in disgust. He's probably saying, Paul, get me some JaRule hits now, willya?!
BirdEgal202 01/01/2005
Just take popular music, take out a few pronouns and add Jesus and there ya go.

Oh Jesus, you are my savoir/ Please let me walk with you in eternity./ I am ever greatful for all that you given me my lord. See it's not that hard to write Christian music.

Jello 04/26/2004
Ok, christian music is fine, but i cant wait to see some islam rock, or some jewish rock. Then we get some bands like the flaming muhammades, and such. I'd buy tickets to see that lol. ROCK ON

How Christian music and it's various forms is mostly so bad it makes me wonder if God wears earplugs so he doesn't so he doesn't have to listen to this crap.
CanadaSucks 02/12/2004
So bad it defies logic. How could such a cool prophet and god have such lame music for praise?
StanUzbeck 11/24/2003
It's fascinating to me. There are so many different genres of music the fall under the label Christian. There is Christian metal, Christian pop, Christian rock, Christian rap, among others. And they all manage to completely suck. Why is that? Odds are that there should be at least a few bands out there who are Christian and who are pretty good, but there are absolutely NONE. This defies the laws of probability for sure.
MissPackRat4Je sus 10/11/2003
Drbanner is right! Christian music is performed in many styles. The difference is that the lyrics in Christian music are based on the Bible and they zero in on Biblical principles and Godly living. I find Christian music to be inspirational!!
drbanner 09/07/2003
It is correct to call it a TYPE of music but it's not a STYLE of music, because there is everykind of music in Christian music. And that's what makes it great.
