My theory is that they headed to the mainland in makeshift water craft and wear the first in line at Disney World.

The unexplained mystery here is not the fact that the settlers died. The fact is that they disappeared without a trace- no signs of a struggle, no bodily remains, no signs of makeshift shelter...nothing. Further, none of the individuals were ever heard from again.

Let's see now. The Brits landed a batch of greenhorns on an island on the edge of civilization. All around is large gaggles of Indians who are not friendly. Disease is rampant and carries off large batches of people. Food is scarce, and people have been known to starve to death.
Then the ships took off for Jolly Old England and let the poor settlers fend for themselves. Several months or even years pass, later a ship shows up and everyone is gone. Hmmm! This is a real mystery!

Considering everything thats been misplaced over the centuries it was only a matter for time before something like this happened.

The only bigger mystery here is who left the bathroom light on. Give me a break.

I'm descended from them... UPDATE: My many greats (not sure how many) grandma was one of them and settled down with a native dude. (this is why numbah gets savage sometimes) Would I lie?

I heard that the settlers were forced to flee their settlement into the Appalachians, where they interbred with the local indian population and just dissipated through succeeding generations. I don't know why they had to flee though, but I imagine it was for a pretty good reason.

They were abducted by aliens who were in reality Jack the Ripper, Elvis, and Bigfoot. They formed a secret club, landed in the middle of Stonehenge where they plotted the Kennedy assasination. After that they departed for the Bermuda Triangle stopping off in Scotland to have tea with the Loch Ness Monster. Either that or they spontaniously combusted. It really doesn't matter anymore though because now they're all mere ghosts of themselves.

I think that Indians killed the colonists and ate them then buried their bodies in a secret location.
