Oak Island One of the most intriguing and frustrating puzzles of all time. The 200 year search for buried treasure on a booby-trapped island off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada. Millions of dollars have been spent and six people killed, yet the treasure still eludes all seekers. What lies at the bottom of this mystery? (Add picture)

Unlike a lot of the other entries on this list, this is actually quite intriguing, is current, and doesn't lend itself to any easy explanation. There are some excellent books on this available.

Gotta love it. Pirate treasure, buried in a trapped (cursed) hole?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe this is the one about the two boys who go treasure hunting a dig a hole where there are wooden planks every 10 feet or so down. This is a quieter mystery (except for the deaths), and fascinating because...well...how and why the hell would someone put wooden planks in ten-foot increments underground *infinitely*? Crazy. Unimaginable.

If there is anything down there, it would be too dangerous to try to retrive it.

I live like 10 minutes away from Oak Island, and it is a bit mysterious. Actually it's kind of cool. I've often wondered, while driving by the island, if there really is treasure down there. Mind u, I wouldn't actually risk my life and pay a lot of money to go down and look though. But it might be fun.

There was probably this pirate, once upon a time, who thought it'd be hilarious to leave a fake map or instructions or something to some fictional buried treasure. Ha ha, thought the pirate, this will surely mess with people for the next three hundred years. You know, just to be a jackass. Or maybe some other group of pirates already dug up and esconced with the treasure, taking care to reset all of the booby traps on their way back. Hell, I don't know. Don't ask me.
