 | bennett395 (0) 04/08/2008 | A true monument of college football! Every game is soldout with some of the most diehard fans in college football who are always on their feet and loud, even during the pregame and halftime shows, thanks to TBDBITL. Script Ohio is one of the best gameday traditions in college football. The stadium pays homage to the 7 Heisman Trophy winners to wear the Scarlet and Gray as well as the legendary Woody Hayes. Truly one of the greatest experiences in college football.

When you've said "Big Horseshoe" or
"Ohio Stadium," it's end of discussion.
College football's greatest, most loyal
and critical fans reside within.
Thunderously loud, not phony-proud like
a lot of S.E.C. schools, but continous
love affair with our Buckeyes and the
college game.
Football heaven.
Go Bucks! Hey Florida, we're retooling.
Get the **** outta the way or you'll
get run over.

 | TLOLeary (0) 07/06/2006 | I have never experienced anything as exciting as being at the Horseshoe for a game! You will never find more dedicated and enthusiastic fans! To be in the Horseshoe is almost a religious experience. Never will you find a place that represents commitment, tradition, courage and unity more, or experience the loyalty and dedication of fans like you will at the Horseshoe!

 | buckeye91 (0) 06/15/2006 | first I want to address those few people that said buckeye fans are not loud, maybe I should quote Vince Young, or Mack Brown of Texas when they said that the shoe is the loudest stadium they have ever been in. I have been to a few games in the "shoe" including texas and michigan this place is loud, the fans come from all over the great state of OHIO to the center of the state, the mecca of college football, not to socialize, but to give thier beloved buckeyes a home field advantage like no other in the country. The stadium and its awe inspiring architecture, is only surpassed by the intimidation of scarlet and gray surrounding the playing field. Ohio Stadium is all about tradition and history. from the early morning tailgating (the lane avenue hinegate) lets just say Columbus knows how to PARTY! the teams walk from the hotel to the "skull session" which is the bands warm up session. this warm up has become so big that the band warms up in front of a crowd of 10,000 + in the basketball stadium as the band and fans root on the team as they make thier walk through apperance. no other school in the country has a pregame celebration like this one, and only one team has the "best damn band in the land" then the band takes the field in the shoe, a sight that will give goose bumps to any football fan, the unmatched tradtion of the dotting of the "I" then the famous O-H-I-O cheer that gets the hole stadium involved. all that followed by a power house football team who is very hard to beat at home. everyone stays at the end of a game to sing carmen OHIO, the schools alma mater, with the team and band. The Stadium has it all, tradition, crazed fans, and a team and coach that know, understand and accept what it means to be a BUCKEYE!

 | lsanhstn (1) 02/23/2006 | Nice, large stadium with good views from almost any seat. Only downside is the laid back fans. With a stadium this size, the crowd noise should be ear shattering. The fans yell at times but just don't seem to be as into the game as fans at other schools....

 | TBDBITL Fan (0) 12/10/2005 | With it's classical arches and beautiful rotunda, Ohio Stadium would not look out of place in ancient Rome. It stands proudly on the banks of the Olentangy River and it's architecure is unsurpassed by any other stadium in the nation. Recent renovations have made it's ammenities both modern and convinient. Unlike the "big house" which is little more than a large crater, Ohio Stadium is intimidating and impressive. No tradition rivals the dotting of the "i" in the band's Incomperable Script Ohio. There is no fan in the country who is as passionate and dedicated as a Buckeye fan. If you've never attended a game in this fantastic stadium I stronly encourage you to do so. Join in the cheers, or sit back in awe as the air is filled with thousands of voices chanting O-H-I-O!

 | igottherollie (0) 11/18/2005 | Was at the TEXAS v OHIO STATE game in early september, and it was probably the best game experience i've ever had. The stadium is large but there are good views from basically everywhere. The noise and passion from the fans is unmatched in the big 10.

 | no361010erry (0) 11/15/2005 | Went here recently for the first time as a guest of my business partner who is an alum. Without a doubt the best football stadium and atmosphere I have ever witnessed bar none. Sat in section 17a, lower level near the closed end at the 25 yd line. This stadium is the most raucaous and loudest I have witnessed for a noon game. Even gator fans aren't this excited this early. I'm not sure where the other reviewers were sitting who said this place is quiet, it is so big that I suspect the seats high up are set so far away from the action that the sound is not contained. But down low it is a constant echo of sound. I couldn't here the PA announcer all day.
The tradition and history and love of the game that the fans exhibit is a cut above even my own beloved SEC. There is a free pep rally and band concert 2 hrs before the game in the basketball arena where the entire football team and coaches come to to inspire the crowd. The stadium is packed 35-40 min before kickoff to watch the band do their Script Ohio. The whole stadium stays after the game to sing the alma mater in unison, and so mcuh more. There is a huge organized tailgate with bands and beer trucks and various vendors lining the street near the stadium that makes you feel like you are at Woodstock. This is truly the mecca of college football. If you are a fan of the game you must attend a saturday in Columbus, it is awe inspiring. Golf has its Augusta, tennis its Wimbeldon, the NFL its Lambeau and college football has "the horseshoe". I am so impressed, an absolutely unbelieveable experience, even for a Gator like me.

 | eeP (1) 10/19/2005 | Simply the best place to watch football.
The fans here are outrageous. the cheer across the field (looking at the picture the open end is first) O!-H!-I!-O! The best cheer in college football.

 | johnigma (0) 09/29/2005 | OSU, Michigan, and pretty much every other Big 10 team have these enormous stadiums that hold so many people, all of whom are terribly quiet and almost bored. You have a pretty good team. Act like it.

 | OregonTrail (0) 09/09/2005 | Ohio Stadium is magnificent to look at on the outside; quite striking indeed. Inside, the recent renovations were done with great care to bring fans closer to the field while keeping the classic look it has enjoyed for so many decades. One negative is how far away from the field fans in the shoe endzone are located. It's very much like Memorial Stadium at Texas: Endzone stands that seem miles from the field.
This isn't one of the louder stadiums in the nation; not by a longshot, although the renovations have certainly made the place louder than it was. Part of the volume problem is the stadium not being enclosed. The other is the fans themselves. By and large, Buckeyes fans come to watch the game, discuss the game and analyze the game except when Michigan is paying a visit. They are a far cry from fans like those at LSU, Florida, Tennessee or Texas A&M.
The band adds an incredible amount of enjoyment to gameday in Columbus. Their sound is big, brassy and loaded with powerful percussion. They are worth the price of a ticket, let alone seeing the game itself.
Overall, this is my favorite venue in the Big Ten. Well worth a visit if you're in the area and have the ability to secure a ticket.

 | jej529 (0) 11/28/2004 | People may hate the renovations, but after 2001, one of the greatest stadiums in all of sports just got bigger and louder. When you sit in the new bleacher section, you really get a good look at just how massive this place can be. Combine that with the loudest fans in college football (some say the meanest, but I leave that title to Wisconson), and you get one hell of a Saturday afternoon watching football. Everything is well done, the seats aren't as crammed as other stadiums, and you are right on top of the action.

IT IS NOT about rating your likes or dislikes of the college football team, coach or fans that play in or inhabit the stadium.
In that regard there is not a single, solitary college football stadium that even comes close to the Shoe.

 | ethopete (0) 07/07/2004 | It is the perfect fit for Ohio State Football. It looks like a football cathedral with all of the roman arches and stain-glassed windows. It is big, yet intimate, and there arent many bad seats. The crowd is loud, extremely knowledgeable and supportive, and really appreciates good football. I've been to my share of big ten games in other stadiums and have never heard a good punt cheered louder than in The Shoe. The fans love the game, and they love their Buckeyes. I wont even get started on the many great traditions, the revered (sp.?) band, and the awesome tailgaiting scene but know this; Being in Ohio Stadium for a game, especially a big one, is one of the most pure college football experiences you can have. It's really something. Go Bucks!

 | JJsBuckeyes03 (0) 07/04/2004 | Ohio Stadium (The Shoe) is one of the loudest in the country, it is also the third largest, it looks alot better then Michigans, ND, Penn St. Wisconins, and other teams you picked ahead of it, what is wrong with you peopole.

 | mattdogg (0) 05/27/2004 | What's not to like? Ohio Stadium sets the standard for college football venues in the U.S. The romanesque architecture of the exterior creates a very formal, powerful setting. Inside, the second deck creates brings people closer to the field and makes for a sound and coziness not often acheived in 100,000 seat stadiums. The new press box intelligently mixes the old with the new, and that sea of red on gameday- impossilbe to beat! I know I'm biased, but honestly Michigan fans, what is the architectural theme of your stadium? And why do you have to urge people to wear blue at your games? At OSU, there's no talk about wearing red, they just do it!
(3 voted this helpful, 0 funny and 0 agree) |
 | kevdog (0) 05/14/2004 | while not an Ohio State fan, I have to admit that I was impressed by the stadium and the tailgating that goes on outside it. I think OSU did a nice job of enclosing the horsehoe without destroying the old-school charm of the place.

 | fallschefs14 (0) 10/27/2003 | A classic place to visit if you are touring the good stadiums in the U.S. The fans are kinda rude and the O-H-I-O cheer is over done but still a good place to visit.

 | FortMyersBeach (0) 08/16/2003 | Anyone that does not rate this stadium in the Top Ten has a bad case of stadium envy.
Just from television alone it is a great venue, the fans, cheerleaders, bands, uniforms, NFL level talent, and Big Ten coaches on display make for great television.
But to really understand Ohio Stadium you need to park east of the university and walk up Lane Ave to the stadium. The parties are incredible. Every major radio station sponsors huge parties with live bands. Then you walk through the huge parking lots with the standard tailgate parties. But tbdbitl is the stand out over at St John Arena with the skull session and the march to the stadium. If you ever go here to see your team and your band comes to you have to see this!!!
The band ramp entrance to the stadium is something you must experience to appreciate. If I am lying dead from a hart attack all I need to recover is to hear "ladies and gentelmen, the pride of the Buckeyes, the Ohio State University Marhcing Band" If you have never been to a game in Ohio Stadium make sure you are in your seat 20 minutes before kickoff.
For a casual fan or the alumni that only come back once in awhile September games are the best. Great weather, and easy to get tickets.
Big wins and lots of fun.
I understand some people miss the old south stands and the olympic track and guess that is why the ranking of Ohio Stadium seems to have dropped so much lately.
But once you get over the resistance to change, and realize how it is even louder now for a big game you will be impressed.
If you dont believe me tune in for the game against Washington. At night the defending national champs will rock the crowd all night long with or without Clarett.
