Kinda surprised by him. Thought he would be a lot better of a coach. He actually made Rice respectable and did some decent work at Vandy. UAB is a tough gig, but one with a distinct upside and there's material to work with to win in a not-too-difficult Conference USA. Seems like a good guy, but this job may end up being his Waterloo. A good coach should be able to win consistently at UAB. They'll go to a Bowl this year so hope springs eternal.

With the success he had building the UAB program from scratch, its amazing he hasn't gotten more play for coaching vacancies at more established schools. Smart, player's coach, great recruiter in a tough area (smaller populated SEC state shared with Alabama and Auburn).
