The Charlie Brown on the recall, vote no on the recall and yes on Bustamente. Thats his slogan for the campaign, now is that wishy washy or what and do you really want this guy in charge of the great state of California. I rather have some one that stands for what he believes then a candidate who is hedging his bets. Vote yes on the recall and no on Bustamente. Update: I watched the debate last night and if this guy did not come off like a sleezy politician, I do not know what he is. Lets face it he is a professional politician who has done not much else since he quit pick fruit. I pray to god this guy does not get the nod for Govenor as things will get much worse if Cruz is elected. Any one but Cruz except Huffington she is a be-atch.

A man who worked his way to where he is now, Cruz Bustamante squandered his only chance at becoming the first Hispanic governor of California in over a century during the 2003 gubernatorial race with his uninspiring showing. A rather dull campaigner, he was extremely ineffective at conveying the message of why he was the best alternative to Gray Davis. Sadly, the debate highlighted why Bustamante could not win.

dull, wrong on most of the issues, as inspriring as nyquil, and he has a face perfect for radio.
jamestkirk 10/03/2003
Wouldn't he just be a continuation of Gov. Davis's policies.
praveling 09/30/2003
Second best performance in the 9/24 debate, not too far behind Peter Camejo

Cruz can have a way of sounding calm and reasonable, which is rather scary. This man is an avowed "mechista", and his denials about the radical nature of MECHA are out-and-out lies. You can read up on MECHA --they're stupid enough to put their agenda right on the web for everyone to see. The big problem is, no one seems to care! As for his socialist policies, you can say he's just another shade of GRAY.
ArnoldIsTheMan 09/25/2003
If you think Davis is bad, you haven't seen anything yet!
Jessie D 09/21/2003
In the hip pocket of casinos, uses campaign funds illegally and favored AB60 to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens. This guy could be impeached.
SocietyOfLies 09/20/2003
His ads are dishonest. And well it's quite shocking for a politician to be dishonest wouldn't you say? He claims he opened California colleges to every qualified student. But the community colleges have been open to every qualified California citizen for DECADES!! It was all part of the master plan for California colleges way back in the 60's with it's multitiered system etc.. Unless he means he opened up colleges to illegal imigrants and is pussy-footing around a real debate of the issue. As well-scripted politicians only "misspeak" deliberatly I'm tempted to think so. Bustamante is drawing attention away from other better candidates (no not the Terminator).

Cruz Bustamante is taking over 2 million dollars from Indian gaming. California state policy should not be beholden to Indian gaming, which if Bustamante were governor, would be the outcome. He was a member of MEChA in the 1970s, but today, in the year 2003 as lieutenant governor of California he should denounce the racist constitution of this organization. He won't.
Naomi veh Yahonatan 09/06/2003
Racist (Mecha, see Sunstar's suggested site), liar (wouldn't run), and cheater (shady Native American dealings), and I thought Davis was bad?!
JorganVonSting le 09/06/2003
I extremely dislike him. He doesn't care about CA or its people. JOIN ARNOLD!!! STINK-AY!!!
mecha306 09/06/2003
This man is a moron. He is a bigger crook than Davis.

Its sad to see how ignorant most of you people are. I wouldnt vote for Bustamante myself, but I would like to clear up some misconceptions. I urge everyone to read this article, and I know that many of you more closed minded republicans will be hesitant and will read it with pre-conceived notions. Mecha isnt a racist group, not anymore than the NAACP(National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), the AAA (Association of Asian Americans) and so on. Anywho, here is the link <http://www.raisethefist.com/news.cgi?artical=wi re/-----733773t4a.article> And by the way, isnt the very popular, Republican politician David Duke heavily involved with the KKK?
Underspin 08/30/2003
Disloyal, opportunistic career-politician and former member of a racial-extremist, unethical, confrontational, victim-obsessed, reactionary, totalitarian America-hating organization (MECHA) that exists on numerous southwestern college and high school campuses. I write this about MECHA due to the fact that I have (unfortunately) had first-hand knowledge of this group at my school. The many MECHA members I have encountered are invariably full of racial hatred and animosity toward anyone who they consider white (and who they often openly refer as cracker or gringo) or who does not hold the same extremist, revisionistic historical perspectives they do. If Bustamante openly condemned this group, calling his activism with MECHA (in retrospect) now a mistake, that would be one thing, but I certainly wouldn't count on that happening. As stated he's a career-politician, who certainly doesn't wish to alienate his overwhelmingly latino base (extremist or moderate) - obviously he wants their votes.

I would rather have California slide into the Pacific Ocean with grace then have Bustamante sink it to fathums unknown!
bigdingbat 08/29/2003
I think Bustamante is going to walk away with the prize, although Huffington might be the best choice... Bustamante seems like a nice guy, and it's poetic justice that he would win under the circumstances of the election... What did the Republicans THINK would happen if they tried to kick Davis out?.. A Republican taking his place in California??? Dream on... P.S. George Bush is not going to be re-elected.
Tired of Fruits&Nuts 08/29/2003
This bozo only received his undergrad from Fresno State last year (what professor is going to fail the Lt Gov--a redundant question considering the domination of the left in education). He's been bought and paid for by organized labor & indian gambling. He's announced plans to increase taxes by $8 billion which will drive more employers & jobs out of the state. He belongs to an organization that advocates return of Calif & SW states to Mexico. The translation of their motto is, "For the race, everything. Outside the race, nothing." In the assembly he helped create the problems, he is not a part of the solution. If anyone could be worse than Davis, he's it.
Cruiser1961 08/22/2003
Vote for a guy who can't make up his mind without help? Who's pulling Cruz's strings?
Solenoid DH 08/21/2003
Well, since he wants to give the state "back" to Mexico, wants to take even more of the worker's money in taxes, and uses the word "nigger" in public, why bother putting him in office? If you want someone with no morals as your Governor, we've got the perfect candidate for you - he used to be our Governor here in Arkansas. (I can't give you his name without gagging.)
nateman 08/21/2003
Imagine a group of people who think they are the master race and everyone else is less than them. A group who thinks that the territory of their nation should include the seizure of land from an adjacent nation simply because it had once belong to "their race" over a century ago, and that any means peaceful or violent is justified in getting this land back. Think that group is a bunch of NAZI's? Your right but it also describes a group know as Mechista and Bustamante is a long time member. Do you still want to vote for him or is overt racism OK with you as long as its not a "white guy" pushing it?
sscheidle 08/20/2003
So we're not paying ENOUGH in taxes, Cruz? How about cutting some of the PORK BARREL spending?
MrGuardian 08/19/2003
Does Cruz REALLY think we will replace Davis with his own cronie? Why get rid of the Governor for not doing his job, but replace him with his right hand man? Let's not forget that Cruz is collecting over $11K a month for these two months and NOT doing his job, but instead campaigning. Why do we, the tax payers, have to pay this idiot for not doing the job we hired him to do?
harleygirl 08/19/2003
What a moron. He said just last month that he WASN'T a candidate, now he is a candidate - do we want that kind of "SHELL GAME" in government?
YesIamRight 08/19/2003
This guys a career politician. Talks out of both sides of his mouth. Lies like a rug. Smug. Has no place in the future of California. Would be an absolutely dreadful choice for California. Needs to find a real job, probably never will.
RHall 08/13/2003
Might as well be Gray Davis.
lilylangtree 08/11/2003
He would continue the policies of Gray Davis. Forget it!
sunstar 08/11/2003
Mr. Bustamante made headlines a short while back when he used the term "nigger" in a public address. He is also a known Mechista, who supports the extremist La Reconquista movement, which espouses the re-taking of the Southwestern USA by Mexico via mass immigration. (Source: http://www.americanpatrol.com/REFERENCE/Bustamante-Cruz.html) Once asked by reporters if he supported illegal immigration. "My district requires it," Bustamante answered. Great choice, Democrats!
DrKryptic 08/08/2003
He's already gone on the record stating, "I will not participate in any way other than to urge voters to reject this expensive perversion of the recall process. I will not attempt to advance my career at the expense of the people I was elected to serve" (June 2003) So how can this guy now come out and be a part of such a "perverse" process? The answer is sheer opportunism. How can he fight a recall effort and ask voters to choose him at the same time. His entire candidacy reeks of hypocrisy. He is now in danger of becoming the next pariah of the Democratic Party ala Ralph Nader. Its a fine line between couragessness and foolishness, and Cruz has stepped over the line. It seems a shame for a politician who had a very bright future.
magellan 08/08/2003
There is something more than a little disloyal, more than a little opportunistic about Mr. Bustamente throwing his name into the hat as a potential replacement governor. Is there really a market for politicians that put their personal political goals over what's right for their constituents? I am no political expert, but this move reeks of the kiss of death for Gray Davis (and any possible productivity for the California legislature). How can the government continue to function when the Lieutenant Governor has publicly stated that he plans to participate in a sham election to take his boss' job? Arnold Jackson committed a lot of misguided, poorly thought through acts on "Diff'rent Stroks," but one line he NEVER crossed was to stab Kimberly or Willis in the back. Mr. Bustamente would be well served to watch a few "Diff'rnt Strokes" reruns and learn the meaning of loyalty. Kudos to Arnold, shame on Cruz.
