Excellent movie in many ways. Acting was terrific. Kostner did great job directing. Only flaw was unrealistic delays from gun report to impact. Bullets could be thrown at that velocity!

Very good movie. Duvall is one of the best. Great action in this one.

This is an example of superior filmmaking and acting in a genre that doesn't get much play anymore. Costner is back on the map after several forgettable films. Hope he continues to find material like this that suit his talents.

I know its close to sacrilege to praise Costner on here, but I liked this movie. Very well filmed, well written and well acted. Duvall is particularly strong, but Costner is very good, and his portrayal of the man haunted by his past is very credible. Not one of the great westerns of all time, but far better than average.

Western movies r so boring

A 3.5 movie. I always have a few reservations about Kevin Costner's movies because he comes across as being just a little too smug. This one was no classic, but it was pretty good, and anybody who likes westerns won't be disappointed. The acting was good and the cinematography was beautiful. On the other hand, the script needed work and considering the clout of the three lead actors (Costner, Robert Duvall, Annette Benning), not to mention the fact that Costner also directed, you would think they would have gotten a better one. Long story short: rent it, don't buy it.

Fantastic

Very enjoyable; I really liked it!

This movie surprised me -- it was actually very good. I didn't think I'd enjoy a western, but this one had me captivated. There was not only the usual beautiful scenery and gunfights, but there was also some wonderful cowboy humor that had me cracking up the whole time.

Wonderful acting by Duvall, as usual. The other characters seemed well-formed, as well. The love interest seemed out of place. Overall, a breathtaking movie that enthralled me to the end.

SURPRISINGLY GREAT!

I usually don’t like westerns, but this one was actually good. I think that the Old West was recreated very realistically. The small Western town and the incredible vistas helped recreate that world for me. I absolutely loved Robert Duvall and thought he was perfect as the boss. He definitely deserves an Oscar nomination for his performance. The story of a group of free-range cowboys fighting against a rancher and his hired hands was interesting and engaging. The only complaint I have is that the movie was a little too slow at times. But other than that, I enjoyed it. If you like Westerns, you'll probably like this movie. If you don't like them, I still say give it a chance. It has a good story and beautiful scenary to look at.
