Federer is a great player, but is not currently in his best form.

The first man since Bjorn Borg to win 5 straight Wimbledon Championships, and only the second in the Open Era, only the second in more than 100 years. Nadal had him beaten mentally, he came back and won. Federerer is now the 2nd best male in tennis history and the best current player on the planet.

Just waiting for him to add the french open to his already loaded and impressive cv.Should he win roland garros this year, he will undoubtedly become the greatest player even seen in modern tennis. A delight to watch, an example for all tennis players and sportsmen around the world.

Best ever !

Difficult to compare eras in all sports. Little doubt that Federer is a great player; John McEnroe said that even at his best, he could not have lived with Federer, though at this stage, he rates Pete Sampras slightly the better of the two - mainly because of Sampras's overall record. I was a great Rod Laver fan. I often wonder how Federer would have fared against the "Rockhampton Rocket", who is still the only man to twice win all four grand slam titles in the same year.

I just recently found this site and it's nice to see the reviews of this guy dating back a few years. Roger is simply the best I've ever seen! As a former teaching professional, I coached players to more than 100 state, sectional and national titles including a college national championship. I recall telling my former students that some day you will see a player with no weaknesses. Federer is that player. Even before he won his first major, I believed he was the smoothest player I have ever seen. Something you will almost immediately notice when you watch him play is that he doesn't make a sound. Although, as a player, you want ot exhale executing a stroke, you do not need to use your vocal cords. Federer's ability to adapt to a situation and change variables of the ball, as well as his stroke production and shot selection make him the best. When you watch him play, he uses his slice backhand perfectly. On wide shots, using the slice backhand will keep him from giving up too much position thereby his recovery is shorter and conserves energy. His slice backhand approach stays nice and low forcing his opponents to hit up from the baseline allow him to volley from abover net level. The next time you watch him play, notice how his opponents back knee is almost on the ground in order to get under the ball. His forehand is consistently deep with pace. His topspin back the same. Now, his serve. This is a stroke that people fail to understand. Power isn't everthing. The variables of pace and spin directly effect each other. The more spin you put on a ball the less pace and and vice versa. Putting more slice on the ball allows Federer to move the ball out wide in the duece court on first and second serves. The placement is the key because the opponent must stand more forward to guard against the angle. As such, he is more vulnerable to a serve with pace. Federer mixes it up well and executes planned plays on his serve. You wouldn't expect a quarterback to go into a huddle and say "Every go out on five". Likewise, a good player will execute specific plays on serve. Roger does this very well. Finally, mentally the best. This comes from the fact he knows he has no weakness. When you're as good as he is, and no one has been, confidence is king. Great reviews of this guy are dead on!!!

He embodies every quality required to be the all-time greatest tennis player, and that is exactly what he is. He is unbelievably intelligent and quick, strong and powerful, and his tennis game is complete in all aspects. When he is on the court, every point is magnificent, yet played with such unparalleled grace and ease. And, from a girl's perspective, he's not only the best tennis player of all-time, but the hottest as well!

He's amazing.

The more I watch him, the more I'm convinced he is not from this planet. A 71-3 record this season, and of those two statistics, the 3 is the most shocking to me simply because I have yet to see him lose a match.

Magnificent talent and shot-making skills. On the court, he's dynamic, intelligent and a gentleman. A modern tennis anomoly - he doesn't rely solely on power and aggressive tactics.

I think that Federer is a talented player however is very concieted and wins a lot of matches out of sheer aura not good shot making

Federer is the most complete player the game of tennis has seen. Let's get this bit out of the way - as long as he stay's fit and motivated, he will smash Sampras' record in grand slams. Here is a player who really makes the heart sing. Here is an artist of the court. Fluid serve, deceptively quick mover, graceful in the extreme, astonishing shotmaker, a brilliant mind and he has got great determination. His forehand is the best in the game. His backhand has amazing variety. He has every single shot that you'd find in any tennis manual and he's got a whole lot that you'd never find there. He plays shots never before played. It's as though he sees the game in slow motion. He's always in position, he can analyse the situation in nanoseconds and, having chosen the right shot to play, he executes it perfectly. He has so many ways to win a match. He's got more weapons than anybody else and he has no weaknesses in his game. If he's on his game, he wins - simple as that. He's got everything Sampras had - plus a backhand. Oh, and he's going to get better too. He is a joy to watch - a true joy.

What else is there to say about this future legend? He is the most dominating and inspiring performer the game of tennis has ever seen. The way he can curl a running backhand down the line past a volleying attacker should be deemed illegal. Basically Federer plays the game the way it was meant to be played. He plays an all-court precision syle with a virtuoso's touch. He is also young so he can only get better and more dangerous.

The most talented and dominant tennis player ever, better than sampras, not evn wornd #2 Roddick could defeat him this year
magellan 09/13/2004
Federer is absolutely dominating, and has no flaws to his game. Big serve, powerful groundstrokes, elegant net game - there just isn't anything he can't do. Mcenroe thinks that Federer has a chance to be the best to ever play the game - and given the awe with which his peers talk about his game, it would seem like a possibility.

Roger could turn out to be the greatest tennis player of all time. He has an all-court game of a quality I have never seen. I so much admired Sampras, but this one could turn out to become an even greater player.

He is just coming into his own. He won the Aussie without his best game which is the sign of a true winner. Fed has an all-court game which is proven time and time again to be the most effective against anyone. He has all the shots, returns serve like nobody else today, changes direction and pace with ease and stays calm under pressure. He reminds me a lot of Borg. I'd like to see him develop a bigger first serve. Once he does that he will truly be great.

Best tennis player in thw world right now. The best returner and the best groundstrokes in tennis right now. Above-average serve, above-average net game. He is just so talented in all aspects of the game.

Man he is one cool cucumber. He barely gets angry. He definitely deserves my stars because he is very good and awesome. Oh, and congrats on your recent Australian Open win. You rock!

After watching his Wimbledon semifinal destruction of Andy Roddick and his destruction of Mark Phillipoussis in the final, there is no doubt he in my mind he could win all four of the majors. The only thing that will probably stop him from doing it is his lack of mental toughness.
I AM DIVINE 09/24/2003
The best physical game ever. Unfortunately for him, he's lacking upstairs.
Underspin 08/13/2003
Only the highest possible rating for arguably the most talented player to come along in over a decade. Natural athlete with highly sophisticated skills and all-court abilities. He has touch, power, placement and precision. And despite all this, he lacks the cockiness and arrogance of certain other top-level players. In a word, refreshing.
