brand new, however, is not terrible.
i first fell in love with them when i listened to their sophomore album 'deja entendu'
then as my music tastes grew towards a more indie leaning, so did brand new's music!

'the devil and god are raging inside me' is an extremely underrated album. it is full of depth and amazing moments. lead singer jesse lacey has definitely matured since his early punk rock days on 'your favorite weapon.'

sadly it seems the mainstream indie world will never get over the image of brand new as a punk/emo act and are blind to the fact that they have moved well beyond those days.

i cannot wait until their new album is released sometime late summer '09!


*note: i recommend that first time listeners to brand new work their way backwards through their catalog i.e. 'the devil and god are raging inside me,' 'deja entendu,' and then 'your favorite weapon.'

While I'm not big on their old material, the CD "The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Of Me" is amazing.
