"Phil Keaggy is an excellent all-around guitarist who has been a part of the CCM scene for over two decades. Born and raised in Ohio in a Catholic family of ten, Keaggy always loved music and spent hours listening to such singers as Johnny Ray and Elvis Presley. He began imitating the latter as young as age four. Keaggy was also exposed to other kinds of music and became well versed in classical. His first guitar was a late-'50s Gretsch Anniversary model; at age ten his father bought him a Sears Silvertone, and by the end of fifth grade, he was playing in front of his entire school. Three years later, Keaggy was playing professionally with the Squires..." - AllMusicGuide.com (Add picture)

Remember this is a poll based on a guitarists overall versatility and ability. NOT LYRICS! Too many people don't even want to give Phil a listen when they find out he is a Christian artist. Phil is the most amazing guitarist I have ever seen. He is capable of blazing fast runs on an electric (or acoustic) guitar or the most beautiful fingerpicking (with one finger missing) you've ever heard. NOBODY can compare with his looping abilities, he his amazingly versatile. Pinky volume swells, e-bow, tapping harmonics, sweep picking, tasteful whammy bar licks, muting techniques. All I can say is go see him live, it could just scar you up for life!Check out these videos of him and see for yourself.

Five stars for his guitar playing minus 2 for the christian stuff. I'm not into death metal or any of that disturbing satanist rubbish, but in-yer-face fundamentalist christians scare the bejeezus out of me more than all the black metal bands and muslim nutters combined.

Maybe the greatest guitar player on earth, and I'm not saying this as someone whose musical tastes just include those in CCM. He can play any type of music, and his guitar improvs are some of the most amazing bits of rock guitar I've ever heard. His band from the late 60's, Glass Harp, used to steal the show as they opened for bands like the Kinks, Jimmy Hendrix, etc. Too bad they didn't do more together, because they could have been the biggest band in the world. It's too bad that there are so few people who know him and that people don't give him a chance because he is a Christian artist. Reviews by people like ChatnChew who have never heard Keaggy with a guitar should just not write a review rather than giving a 1-star rating. Oh, by the way, he only has 9 fingers. Jimi Hendrix was once asked How does it feel to be the greatest guitar player in the world. He responded by saying, I don't know, ask Phil Keaggy.

Phil is an amazing virtuoso (a term used far too often these days.) It's unfortunate that he got involved with Christian music. He deserves to be mentioned with guys like Jeff Beck, not the lame stuff he's usually surrounded by.

When shopping for Christian Music back in the early 80's I came across Phil's records many times. I was always cautious of buying records that only has one good song on it. Being fan of Andrae Crouch already I heard Phil on one of his songs "I Love Walking with You". The guitar playing caught my attention right away and I wanted to know who was playing. Looking at the record sleeve I saw Phil Keaggy and Abraham Laboriel.I bought the Town to Town LP and the rest is history. I've been a fan of Phil's for over 21 years. Saw great live concerts. Phil is a very talented singer, song writer, producer and musician.- Also a great family man. It's all in his music. Whether it be a vocal cd, or a instrumental cd it's all heart felt and it's music that can heal. I've been inspired by his music it's truy anointed.

Phil is without a doubt the one of the most influential guitarist/singer/songwriters of the past quarter of a century. With his early success with Glass Harp (recently brought back as a recording/creative power house with "Hourglass"), and all through his forays into instrumental, vocal, and experimental music, Phil never disappoints. He is awe-inspiring in concert, showing a command of the guitar that is rivaled by very few. In addition, Phil is highly respected by many professional musicians such as Steve Morse, Doyle Dykes, & Rick Derringer, and once even held an amazed Paul McCartney spellbound at a performance of a song at a wedding that they both attended. Most importantly, aside from his obvious musical talents, is his humble demeanor and his friendly and caring nature. Give Phil a try; you will be blessed!

If Phil Keaggy wasn't the best at what he does,I doubt that I'd be as eager to see him every chance I get! He is truly a great person, and an extraordinary musician, who turns out great music with every new release.I can say that for over 22 years he has been the musician that I more than imagined I could be. How does he do that? Best all-around guitarist!

First heard Phil Keaggy live at an outdoor theatre three years ago. I was amazed, and I began my quest to hear more of the music from this super talented singer, songwriter and musician. I've now got more than 30 CD's including 5 with his band mates, Glass Harp. Just got my copy of their newest CD Hourglass. You will NOT be disappointed.

Phil's music has kept me interested and inspired for 26 years. I have yet to find a more gracious and humble person onstage sharing his life and music with others.

Phil's music is like food for your soul. It is the most uplifting music that gives you a sense of peace & tranquility that words cannot describe. Best of all, it gives praise to our creator.

Phil Keaggy has proven himself across all styles of music and his creativity and adaptability continue to amaze me. From acoustic folk and instrumental to prog rock, Phil proves his prowess with the instrument. He captivates audiences with only an acoustic guitar as easily as with a rock band or 30 piece orchestra. On stage with Glass Harp, their unique style of jam rock amazes fans of all ages. As a person, Phil is honest and genuine; a one of a kind. See www.pkfans.com and www.philkeaggy.net

Phil is a musicians musician, a gifted songwriter, and one of the most genuinely great human beings alive. His music and words have inspiried thousands in their walk with Christ, and his guitar playing is the stuff legends are made of. There is no greater musician or example of Christ to be found in any music genre.

There is no bad Phil Keaggy release! This self titled release is also one mf my "phaveorite" Phil CD's! Phil is a true master of the guitar, a true man of God and a all around great guy! Be sure to check out that new Glass Harp CD too! Phil and his former band mates have just released their first CD in 30 years and it is an excellant CD!
