D-Link DSL-2540B ADSL22+ Modem 5

Received this modem today and installed on the network. The hardware install was easy. Connected from my VISTA OS to the modem as an admin and ran the wizard. Fifteen minutes from the time I opened the box to connecting to the internet. No problems with needing to know the MAC address or other attributes to connect, the default attributes worked. The modem is at my business with four computers connected to it. All were able to connect without problems. Looking back the ATT modem was slowly dying. The increase in speed is significant. This modem is about the same price as the ones that ATT sell directly I choose this one over theirs becuase of the good experience with other D-link products.

D-Link DSL-2540B ADSL22+ Modem 3

I took it out of the box and looked at the contents. Then I opened the pdf user manual. It was 68 pages long! Nice and thorough but I can't afford to be offline for more than a day or so before I start losing money. This looked way to complicated and for fear of fouling up what I've already got, I just put it back on the shelf.

D-Link DSL-2540B ADSL22+ Modem 3

I tried to install this Modem two months ago. The wizard connected it to the computer but not to AT&T my ISP. I checked D-Links website for support at that time and found that most of the pages didn't even display correctly on my computer. There was very little information on this sparse site and most of it said, contact your ISP. At that time I was too busy to spend an hour on the phone so I put off using it.

I tried to install it again tonight. I can tell you that my computer interacts with this modem just fine. I can also tell you that AT&T was willing to tell me how to make it work with their system. They call this service Tech Support + and they will gladly connect you to it FOR A PRICE. Do you really want to buy this and THEN spend $50 to talk to India??

Having endured marathon tech support sessions before, I was not into sitting with a rep and going over the entire process (most of which I know) while the clock clicked off my dollars. Just finding the tech support number at AT&T took me about 15-20 minutes because the NEW AT&T site has become one big "sellathon" partnership with Yahoo.

If anyone can comment and give me the AT&T settings for this box it would be much appreciated. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is having this problem.

D-Link DSL-2540B ADSL22+ Modem 5

I bought this to replace a 3 year old defective Westell 327w Verizon provided. This was my second Westell modem and I did not want to pay VZ $89 for a third. After reading reviews about compatibility here and elsewhere I decided to purchase this modem. Before setting it up, I wrote down all my settings from the old Westell with the vision of having a complicated setup -- the setup was easier than I expected from reading the reviews. I plugged the D-Link in, went to the setup page, and the wizard did everything else. I was online within 5 minutes of plugging everything in.

No need to release my IP. No need to input any settings. No need to battle through VZ's technical support (not that I would rely on them for any support).

Random thoughts after running this modem for a week:
This modem gives nice a fair amount of detail in it's logs for those who need it.
If you are running a web server, it has either DMZ or port forwarding for your needs.
Within the admin page you can disconnect/reconnect your connection with usually helps in solving slow speeds.
This modem does get hot, so i wouldn't recommend stacking it on top or under another product.

D-Link DSL-2540B ADSL22+ Modem 5

Router arrived and hesitant to connect as earlier no-name router and livebox both required calls to customer service and a good investment of time.
Took the plunge tonight and Alhamdulillah! with the router going through the auto-configure option I spent 5 minutes and entered only my account name and password and my aDSL connection was up and running.
The box comes with a 110 / 240 switching power supply and all necessary cables.
Computers, HP photosmart printer, and WiFi box all connected without issues. Since the D-Link router is, well, a router the WiFi router from Linksys is configured to be only a WiFi transmitter. All the WiFi devices connected to the transmitter without issues and have live internet connections.
Quite possibly the easiest connection I have had so far (knock on wood), though I realize the work to solve earlier connection issues helped make this one easier.
I would highly recommend this router.
(Using it with Orange Senegal, 240V power, aDSL v2)
