Yahoo! Personals 3

UPDATE:
I finally figured out the technical problem with Yahoo Personals, although it took me far too much effort to learn about it. The site is unusually sensitive to browsers that it thinks have a few too many cookies and a bit too much data in the cache. If you clear those before you try to connect to the URL, it works fine. Unfortunately, it requires clearing those things too frequently for my lazy taste.

ORIGINAL COMMENT:
I'm currently subscribed to both Yahoo Personals and Match.com. Yahoo Personals is not as good as Match.com, but it has improved in the last few months and I may renew it. However, I've been unable to access it for the last week (today is 5/2/07), so there are some technical problems going on. Obviously I won't renew if the access problem persists. Yahoo has fewer people on it and lacks many of the convenient features found on Match. The prices are comparable, so Match is a better buy. Speaking of paying, the adage is true that you get what you pay for, so why gripe that it's not free. Also, both Match and Yahoo work well when you specify the kind of person you are looking for, in terms of age, height, weight, education, etc.

Yahoo is expensive, very restrictive, and exercises draconian control over content. It is impossible to actually contact yahoo about anything. Yahoo could not make a real match, if their lives depended on it. They cannot even figure things out like smoking/nonsmoking...much less find a compatible person for you. Years back it was fun, but now, their greed. and their need to be in total control, have made them truly superfluous. I am a single doctor, and I am the type of person you want on your personals. I got dates there for years. Now anyone I want to contact, is also on MySpace. There communication is not restricted, and is free...just like yahoo used to be...in its' prime. I have absolutely no use for Yahoo personals anymore. The community before was fun. Now they have killed the goose that laid the golden egg. They are utterly useless. They now do absolutely nothing right. I do not care if I see Yahoo personals ever again. Save yourself the trouble. Avoid this lunacy! The old yahoo...the fun one...that actually functioned...is long dead!

It's not just Yahoo personals it personal sites, These bimbo oops I mean women say what they want good quilities in a man and looks really aren't importent, they email once or twice(sometimes even starting the contact) saying they like what read then ask for a picture and once they see it it's the big blow off, my personal favorite is "Sorry, I don't we are compatible" Funny you didn't think that before picture. These women need to start to be more honest in thier profiles put any for all there "About My Match" when that isn't what they mean, also some of these women want Mr.universe/Bill Gates when they aren't all that good looking and some say thier size average when it is large so unless they are comparing themself to elephant they aren't average. Also most Mr.universe and/or bill gates type isn't going to for a woman with kids. If these woman were all that they wouldn't be on yahoo and sometimes even divorced What makes Yahoo bad is they lead people into believeing that they can match people up and charge them for it, maybe things would be better if they would none paying members reply to members who have paid but I have my doubts. The only Yahoo personals gives you little less money in your bank account, take that money you would have spent on Yahoo personals and spend it on something else, setting the money on fire would be more useful then spending it on yahoo personals.

Not too good, and too many fake profiles. And it's another one of those ones where you can have a profile, etc for free, but you can't contact anyone unless you pay. So they might be able to contact you, and then they think you are just uninterested in them. I hate that.

Yahoo personals are fake. There is a lawsuit pending against them in which they say that yahoo puts fake ads on their site. It makes sense. If you run a personal site and the only women you have on the site are unattractive of course you would put a few fakes on there to get guys to join. Avoid this site at all costs.

yahoo allows your account to be stolen and used by some one else. They refuse to help you.
Also, don't expect a lot of bites. I was on there for a while and met all of 3 people worth talking to. 1 married, 1 was really strange, and the other wasn't much better.

I used Yahoo a couple of years ago, back when it used to be free. I ended up getting a few dates out of it. None of them ever really led to a relationship, but I did meet one pretty interesting girl, and I ended up getting laid a couple of times. Not bad. But it's worthless now that they've started charging. Most of the women on there are either desperate uggos, completely fake ads (to trick you into joining), or else they're not paid members, so you can't send or receive emails, other than pointless little one-sentence "icebreakers" that don't communicate any useful information whatsoever. This time around, I tried it for a month. I've had zero responses to my ad, zero replies to my messages, and I've met zero women. I can't believe I actually paid for this. I feel like a moron for throwing away my money. I guess Yahoo thrives off of suckers like me.

Really, I'd say that yahoo is between a 2 and a 3, but my feelings about it have diminished in just the last couple of days. I have been on another site and was suspicious, so I only agreed to the 7 day free trial. Of course, if you don't enter your credit card information, you don't get the free trial. Then, if you don't cancel your credit card before the seven days is up, they will automatically charge you for a month of service. The other site I was on was the same way. Though I've met a few interesting people, it looks like I will be cancelling before the seven days is up. You can put a profile up without entering your credit card info for a seven-day trial, but you can't email anyone, except for these banal, crappy "Icebreaker" messages that possess all the detail of, "Hey, how are you?" Of course, yahoo is being very careful that you aren't able to say, "My email address is......." Nothing's free in this world, honey. Two last things. One is that they won't let your real email name be your personals name. I'm sure they would officially say this is to protect your privacy, but it also works to make sure that no one will email you and you won't email them (other than icebreaker messages) without BOTH of you paying. Lastly, as I said I did enter my credit card info so I could get 7 days free. I noticed that just now on day four, my mailbox is having "technical difficulties," so I can't access it. Yet, two seconds after I logged out of mine, a friend who didn't have a free trial (so there was no seven day time limit for her--she hadn't given any credit card information and was only able to send Icebreaker messages)was able to log into hers. Hers worked fine, but mine still had technical difficulties. This could just be bad luck, but it makes me wonder if, since they are still trying to hook her into the free trial with offers and ads, they make sure she can get to her box. On the other hand, I've only got three days left to email my matches for free. Why is it that just now, as I'm getting interested in someone, my mailbox doesn't work, as my time is running out? Yet someone who hasn't yet committed can access hers. Hmmmm.....

My experience with this site is that all the attractive girls are not real, and are merely ways for porn sites to get your e-mail address. The only girls who ARE real are beasts.

As one poster suggested earlier, Yahoo! is a great dating site to explore if you are looking for a night of kinky sex or a one dimensional relationship. Yahoo personals is a very curious site as it seems to cater to EVERYONE, they have a catergory for married people looking to have a little extra marital fun on the side. And you are able to post ANY picture of yourself that you want, even stark naked if that is your thing. Would not suggest this for anyone hoping get involved in a deep stable relationship.

1/15/05: I've had good luck on this site. I would consider myself to have above average looks and a fit body. There are a lot of attractive guys, all of which are active members and located with in 25 miles of my location. I haven't had any problems with people just looking for a hook-up's. I think that with any of these sites it has to do with which is the popular one in your area. Yahoo seems to be where it's at for me. Again, good luck.

Cobb's comment caught my eye and I had to find out for myself. You can scroll through and see the postings without having to sign up or pay any fees. What I found was that there were mainly a bunch of unattractive, overweight girls - which is fine and I give them props for trying a new way to meet people - but there weren't any desirable, cute, fit girls. You did however have the other extreme - several postings of girls who look like supermodels. Their messages were something like I've been burnt and I'm looking for a great guy to spoil, looks are unimportant. These girls list their salary's as $150K and I'm sorry but rich supermodels are not hurting for dates and I doubt they'd go the internet route. As Cobb stated, these girls put down that their desired height in a guy is 3 feet to 7 feet, weight is between 100-300 lbs, and travel distance doesn't matter. What we have here is yahoo!personals trying to sucker the average Joe into signing up for the site. No one's gonna sign up for the unattractive fattie's but throw a few supermodels in the mix and maybe it will convince a few folks to give it a shot. Personally I think yahoo!personals should be investigated and shut down for false adverstising.

This has got to the worst site ever. I had my profile on here for some time and they up and decided that it didn't meet there guide lines after I canceled my subscription. I didn't even change it at all. So good luck to anyone that tries, who does find someone there.

this site does not deserve a star. it used to be free back a long time ago, but now the lowest price is 20 bucks. i am not paying any money to meet someone over the net. if i want to meet people for $20 i will take myself to a bar get a drink and be happy. and if you people go to any of these personals sites, be prepared to get ripped off it is not worth the money.

Yahoo Personals is OK, but just barely. I don't mind that they control content, since at one time, the sight was becoming a haven for people who just wanted to hook up for some hot sex. What I don't like is that all photos submitted are available to the public at large. They should give members a choice of who they show their photos to (like LavaLife does). Their matching engine is OK, but not terribly useful. But let's face it, most of these matchmaking sites' matching engines are really pretty simplistic in that they do nothing more than compare your answers to the multiple choice questions to those of others. The more matches between your answer and someone elses, the more compatible you are. Well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that answwering a handful of canned questions provides very little information about someone's true personality. Like most of the other sites they mix in members with non-members, adn you have no way of knowing if someone is a member who will receive your message or not. My biggest problem with Yahoo Personals is the quality of it's members. There are a lot of game-players and downright freaky people there. I have initiated a quite a few interactions with women there. My results have been that with the exception of two women, there would be two to three meaningless email exchanges wherein the women seemed to have no ineterest at all in getting to know me. It was really more like chatroom banter rather than trying to connect. Then the women just vanish; no more responses, not nothing. It can't have been that they decided that I wasn't someone who they'd be interested in, since they knew nothing about me. If you reject a potential friend/partner on the bases of 100 or so words in a couple of emails, you're doomed to a life of lonliness. But that seems to be the way a lot of people on Yahoo want to work it. One of the women I communicated with, wanted me to drive the entire process. I had to be the one to maintain all communications, make all the phone calls, etc. She seemed to like me well enough, but it became obvious that she wasn't going to invest anything of herself, so I ended it. The last woman was a potential stalker. She seemed fine at first, but after we met for a drink, I started getting a dozen or so emails per day along with nightly calls. Within a few days, I was being invited over for kinky sex. No thank you.... I'm sure that there are freaky people on just about any dating site, but base on my experience and those of some friends, Yahoo seems to have more than most. Finally, the membership at Yahoo seems pretty static. I've been using it for two months now and only one new woman has shown up in my search list. $20 is kind of a steep price for so little choice.

This matchmaking site is good in that it has a large membership base, but Yahoo! wants to play God and control what content you put in your profile and decides how they will crop your personal photo. This is extremely annoying, because if you want to edit one word in your profile, you have to wait up to 48 hours for someone to approve that change (they disapproved my first profile altogether). And you might not like how they crop your photo. I tried to browse other male profiles to see what they wrote, but it wouldn't let me since I said I was a man seeking a woman when I first signed up. Give me a break - they don't deserve a dime for their censorship and overcontrol.

Big waste of time. If you don't have money falling from your @ss and if you don't look anything less than a model you are screwed on these sites. Maybe it's the other way around, maybe you gotta look like a model, but the money don't matter, ok correction to that it's the other way around you gotta have the money that is #1 Looks is #2
