Second off: You can't buy championships. Besides if you did, the Yankees would have won every title since 1995.

Third off: I just saw the Rays and Marlins make the WS this decade, and the Marlins won one at the expense of the Yankees. Which further proves that money doesn't guarantee championships. Winning enough games to make the playoffs, and winning 11 games in October and November does though. And the 2009 Yankees did that, unlike the last 8 Yankee teams.

I think the MLBPA is just fine with the Yankees buying a series 3 times per decade in an effort to keep the salary scale in the upper bracket of the sporting world.

Count me in the "give them a salary cap and see how they do" camp...

This gives me yet another excuse to go on a Baseball is broken rant.

It should never be news that the Yankees win a world series. It's news when they don't.

The Yankees' payroll is over $200M. The Phils payroll (the 7th largest), is $113M. Why should anyone be surprised that a team that can pay its players 76% more than its opponent would win?

A brutal pill for me to swallow because I'm a Phillie fan. . .

It ranks high for sports stories because it's a natural fave of the East-Coast media machine. . .and I must give credit because the Yankees simply played better - but what hurts is that the Phillies didn't play their best baseball and still took two wins from this team.

well, Cliff Lee took two wins. . .

Anyways, it's a four-star story that will hold steam as the year comes to a close. . .

To the Yankee mythmakers this will be a huge story of course, with the pinstriped bastards winning the Series in their first year in their new stadium, the way they won their first series in the first year of the old Yankee Stadium.

It was a good, if not great series, despite the unfortunate result, and the Phillies stars (except for Lee and Utley) are the ones who should be taking long hard looks at their performance at crunch time.

For me, the worst part of this was listing to the smugness of the Steinbrenner spawn when the trophy was awarded.
