This dog food is the BEST we have tried in 25 years! The ingredients are human-grade quality, and we know that our dog is getting high nutrition and complete satisfaction from Flint River Ranch. He thinks he's getting a bowl full of treats very time we feed him! We will never switch again.

My whole side of the nieghborhood is on Flint River Ranch. The dogs consist of boxers, huskies, bernese mountain dogs, german shepherds, vizuelas, and ridgebacks. None have had problems w/ the food. Shedding seems to be less, waste less (we can tell when a dog not from our area has been there!) and the dogs have soo much energy regardless of their ages and size. I do know of one dog that wouldn't eat it and when he did he didn't respond well to it. It turned out the dog was riddled with cancer and was dying. If my dog eats too much of it or eats people food then she gets sick. But as long as I have her eat 2.5 cups a day of the food she is healthy and vibrant. I couldn't ask for anything better.I live in florida and use flintriver.com. We get our shipment w/in 24 to 48 hours of the initial order. The customer service is top notch. Their return emails and phone calls are remarkably fast w/in 24 to 48 hours. I usually get a response w/in 3 hours.

I use Flint River Ranch Lamb Millet and Rice for one of my dogs that has a liver issue. It is very low in copper - very near a prescription diet. She is doing extremely well on it. Muscle tone and energy are much improved. Her coat which has always been brittle is really improved. I love this food. Its a good product and extremely convenient because its delivered to my front door!

We've used Flint River Ranch (trout & sweet potato) for four years for our dogs. We initially changed to this brand due to serious skin allergy issues and a strange reoccuring ear issue. After about 6 months, our dog's (Irish Wolfhound/Schnauzer mix) skin and ear issues went completely away. Our dogs just love it. It's been four years since then, and the dogs still love it. Also, we can order 200 pounds of dog food at a time - seems like a lot but we save a lot of money by doing that.

I read through all the comments - those of you that talk of loose, smelly stools are feeding it wrong. This is a really concentrate food, you are supposed to feed less. When dogs are allowed to gorge, they will expell more, as fast as they can.... you really don't want to free-feed this the way you do the cheap stuff from the store, because this doesn't have empty fillers. Somone complained about the increase of wheat in the senior formula - the senior formula increases the carbs to compensate for the lowered protein. It is not meant for dogs of a specific AGE, but for activity level. When dogs are lethargic due to age, they don't need as much protein. Bottom line - if you don't follow the directions and suggestions on something (ANYTHING), the only thing you should complain about is your illiteracy. And even super premium dog and cat food can't help with that!

I've been using this food for my dogs for several years and it has been a great food for them. They have no "digestive issues" and they aren't gassy like they were on other foods. It's also great that this company has a spotless record in regard to all of the recalls - never a problem. Human food quality ingredients - no junk. Visit the company website for more info: http://www.frrco.com/120820

Our chocolate lab loves to eat, like most dogs do. We exercised her every day and she continued to put on weight with the expensive food at pets mart. We tried it all. When I heard about FRR food I was anxious to give it a try. She loves it, her coat is amazing, and with exercise and this food alone, she has lost ten pounds. She has the energy of a puppy, again. I won't be switching foods! I highly recommend this to anyone. PS - I mixed her old dog food with this for one month and she had zero problems with gas/stool when we finally put her on this full time. It's a pretty penny - but well worth it!

We've been feeding Flint River Ranch Lamb,Millet & Rice to our Rottweiller, Shepherd/Rottweiller mix and Coyote/Shepherd mix for 5+ years. Fed them Eukanuba and Nutro before. They exhibited wheat allergy symptoms and poor coat appearance. We spent a lot of money on supplements for their coats to no avail. Switched to Flint River. ALL dog's coats are shiny, all allergy symptoms gone and all exhibit much increased energy and enthusiasm. They are all over 8 years old. The Rotty is over 10 years old. It is the least expensive premium food you're likely to find. It works for us but some other dogs may just have an aversion to this particular formulation. Go figure.

We have fed Flint River Ranch for at least 10 years now and all of our dogs have done great on this food. We were happy to find a high quality food that comes conveniently to our door step, doesn't sit on shelves and get old in stores and that our dogs love. We have raised puppies up to adults and they have been very healthy and have very shiny coats and good weight and lots of energy. We became a distributor many years ago because we believe in this quality food and the quality human grade ingredients that go in to it.

I think that the ingredients in this food are generally wholesome. There was no recall during the pet food scare. However, on an on-going basis, I am not sure that there is enough meat content in the food. I recently switched to Blue Buffalo since it has two meat souces listed as the first two ingredients on the label. Plus, it has Lifsource Bits which is good for my dog's immune system. I have been on Blue for about a month and my dog loves it so far. In the meantime, it's good to know that I can fall back on Flint River if I need to.
Although, I am disappointed that the Senior formula is primarily made with wheat - a cheap filler. I will probably look for another brand for an older dog.

I used this food for years and the dogs loved it. I was traveling a lot and it was inconvenient to have it shipped, so I haven't used it for quite awhile. I plan to start using it again. It's a very good quality food.

My dog LOVES this food and is doing fantastic on it!! It's been months since we made a trip to see the vet. Before she started on this food (Lamb/Millet/Rice) we were spending lots of $'s on medical care and tests trying to find a cause for her almost constant digestive problems. Her poop is perfect and no more throwing up bile. Her energy has sky-rocketed. I'm so glad I found FRR. My kitty is doing great on their cat food, also!
Vickig 09/18/2008
Your dogs could have gotten into something else unsavory or picked up a virus that was going around - it may not have had anything to do with the food.
Bellamiazitta 09/17/2008
I have been feeding my dogs FRR for 8 years. One of my dogs has an allergy to wheat so I feed the lamb and rice dog food formula. All of my dogs love this food. I have never had a problem with this product, they love it. If your dog does have a problem with dry skin, a fish oil supplement will help, which is a great addition to any dogs diet. I do feed my dogs treats that are healthy...apples, blueberries, sweet potato, fresh vegetables etc...This is a great product and should be introduced slowly to your dog. If you have a finicky dog, they will eat a new food when they get hungry enough...dogs will wait for the foods they prefer which are not alway the healthiest. Another food that is very healthy that I sometimes feed is Aunt Jeni's raw dogfood, I buy the Lamb.
AleashaC 09/16/2008
My dog hated this food. The ingredients disgusted me and it gave him diarrhea. He would hardly touch this food. He has special needs because of his allergies and this only made it worse. Flint River is probably the worst food I've ever tried in all the 30 years I've owned dogs.

I have tried many types of dog food and always return to Flint River Ranch I feel safe feeding it. It is human grade ingredients, made in the USA, My dogs always do best on Flint River Ranch and baked not extruded best web page is http://www.frrco.com/101013023

I have seen several dogs on this food and their coats are dry. I tried it with my pup and his coat was dry within ten days also. I've seen a lot of positive comments about how it can make the coats shine but I didn't see this happen. My dog loved the food more than anything...he just got really dull looking like he had just rolled in the dirt. His stools went from solid and dry to light brown and wet. He was on NUTRO ULTRA and it has more of the best ingredients than any food I have compared it to. So now he's going back to it even though he just about quit eating it before and that was the reason I switched. It's a shame because now I have 20 pounds of it...guess the birds and fish will enjoy it

I have found this to be one the best dog foods I have every used, highly nutrious and my dogs love it!

I have used Flint River Ranch Dog food for 5 years and would recommend and do recommend it to anyone. I have 12 rescue dogs of many mixes and sizes and it agrees with all. Not as much clean up and the dogs all look great and are healthy. I would like an "obedience" formula, though!

I stand corrected. I said "sprayed on oils" not so. It is fats however. Please continue to read. And I quote www.dogfoodanalysis.com "The second ingredient(wheat flour)is a low quality filler and whole wheat is also used. The use of wheat is a significant negative however:wheat is believed to be the number one cause of allergy problems in dog food. Ground rice is a decent quality grain. Poultry fat is an ingredient of unidentified origin for which it is impossible to determine the source or quality. Unidentified ingredients are usually very low in quaility. AAFCO define this as obtained from the tissue of poultry in the commercial process of rendering or extracting." Alittle further down the article it also states: We believe that there is adequate amount of meat product in this food. We are less happy with the use of wheat and fat of unidentified and the use of these low quality ingredients brought this food close to a two star rating." That is a close to a two star rating out of six. It not work out in my household. All dogs are different and may work well for others. Good luck.

I have a German Shepard with a very sensitive stomach and food allergies. I have tried many foods which includes Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Dick Patton's lamb and rice brand and Natures Recipe for sensitive stomachs. All were unsuccessful attempts until the food recall had me do research and I found Flint River Ranch. I am so glad that I did. My German Shepard loves it and has not had any loose stools and no more incessant itching. His coat turned from thin, dull and dry to a thick, beautful, healthy shiny coat. I also have a poi dog from Hawaii (pit bull mix) who loves the food and is doing excellent on it as well. http://www.frrco.com/indexFlash.cfm? For those who are having trouble reaching Flint River Ranch directly here is a link.

All my dogs will eat this food, and I like the fact that the company will ship it free of charge.
Rikkilyn860 05/20/2007
I switched my 5 dogs over to this over a month ago. I wanted to give them a chance to adjust before I assessed how much I liked the food. My dogs like it, but it has given them the worse gas I have ever smelled in my life! I have almost had to move out of the house! It also gave them very loose stools and very smelly! I'm switching to Orijen.
brandnewfan 05/14/2007
My dogs absolutely devour this food. We started out with the regular formula but now feed them primarily the wheat-free Flint River Ranch fish and chips (trout and potato) and the lamb and rice dog food formulas. I can't tell you how reassuring it is to feed my guys a food that I feel completely confident in, especially when other brands are being recalled seemingly on a daily basis. We get our food from A+ Flint River Ranch - www.aplusfrr.com - and haven't had a single problem on an order yet. Plus it only takes a couple of days for the food to arrive.

I put my Jack Russell on this food 12 years ago, and he's still going strong. I also have two other dogs another JR and a yellow lab. Both have been on this food for 12 years. They also are doing great even the lab. I put them all on the senior plus at age 5. All my dogs are a great weight and look very fit. I will never feed anything else! And I think this is a great company to do business with. In the past 12 only one order got messed up. I think thats a great track record!! Victoria

We started on the regular, but discovered one of our dogs has a wheat allergy. Since then we feed the Trout and Potato exclusively. Our dogs love it and we spend about a little over sixty a month for three dogs. they even get excited evrytime they see a UPS truck. They really seem to thrive with lovely shiny coats and we are very happy.
MammaMia 05/03/2007
My 3 dogs LOVE this food! I have a 1 yr old Husky, 5month old yorkie and 7 year old Chihuahua. I tried to switch them gradually from their old food (Purina ONE) to FRR but they would pick out the FRR and leave the Purina one all around the bowl. They have been on this food for 2 weeks now and last week the Husky had diarrhea and yesterday the yorkie and the Chihuahua have diarrhea. I am really hoping that this is due to the switch and go away on its own, I will have to wait n see. But I didnt give it 5 stars because they say you will see less waste but I have seen a lot more and it smells BAD!! I will give it some time and see if its just the adjustment.

my dog is a picky eater and did not like this brand.
It is regretable that your dog did not like our brands, we hate to miss out on any chance to gain a new customer. However, there are many reasons why a pet could reject a new product and as our formulas are all dry, if the previous was a wet or fresh meat diet...any dog would reject the addition of dry kibbles. We stand by our formulas and methods...for most every dog we'll improve their health, energy and help to holistically improve them from the inside out!
uniman4 02/10/2007
Let me just say i have PICKIEST DOG EATER IN THE WORLD. On FRR, her coat and stools have been PERFECT. She did have blood with her stools once and spent a few day at the vet, but the Vet didn't beleive it was due to anything food related. I do supplement her coat with a skin enhancer because her coat does tend to be a little dry....nothing major though. WITH THAT BEING SAID, i wanted to switch because i was sick of buying online....so i gave my dog the taste test. I tested FRR against, Chicken Soup/Dog lover, DVP's Natural Balannce, Blue Buffalo, RC sensible choice, and finally Innova. Now my dog isn't gonna run to a bowl of ANY dry dog food, including FRR....but in the end, she always ate the bowl with the FRR in it over EVERY OTHER KIND. I guess its the freshness and oven baked which my dog enjoy's? I must admit i was a little dissapointed actually and wanted to swtich. Might as well keep her on FRR!

My four-year-old cocker spaniel has done well on Flint River Ranch Lamb/Rice forumula. She does seem to be hungry at night lately, so I'm going to supplement with a bit of Timberwolf in the evening, which has a slightly higher protein/fat content. Overall, my dog has been healthy on Flint River Ranch and has, more importantly, maintained her ideal weight of around 18 pounds (she's small for a cockers); my vet did recently recommend an Omega-3 vitamin for her coat and to prevent or reduce the ear infections she gets a couple of times a years. She's a cocker, and more prone to these than some other breeds.
SanSaba 11/04/2006
FRR Dry Water is the only commercial food our picky Westie will touch. Quite surprisingly, the brown stain on our Westie's mouth and paws disappeared with FRR.
Weimer91 10/17/2006
Why is "wheat flour" the 2nd ingredient? Nothing I've read supports wheat as a premium source of protein. They should at least use ground whole wheat in such a high priced food. My male Weimer has explosive watery stools when I started feeding him FRR.
valnybo 09/24/2006
My pup loved it, and it is true that the smell of her stools improved tremendously when she started eating it. No by-products of any kind in this premium food.

Based on my personal experience because the ingredients do look good. I admit I have put good reviews on brands that I didn't have a good personal experience with because the ingredients are good, but I won't do it anymore. I started feeding this to my Pembroke Welsh Corgi because it seemed like all the show people were feeding it to their Corgis. Well, I know not all, but there were a lot actually. I got a 20 pound bag and she was the only one that ate this bag, I don't know how long it took to get through it. But her skin was dry and her coat was dry and brittle. She had gas and she pooped a lot and they weren't pretty. I couldn't wait for that bag to get done.

Being a breeder and showing my GSD's...the ultimate food is of utmost importance. After switching foods several times due to diarrhea, bad coats, or allergies, I found Flint River Ranch. All are shiny, eat less, and no more allergies. The best things you can do for your dogs, aside from the genetics, are providing them with the best food....and this is it for me. I cannot express enough to my puppy buyers and friends how important good food is...so I let them try it themselves..they are hooked!!
djwaszmer 10/01/2005
My pit bull loves this dog food. I feed him the Puppy and Adult Dog Food Nuggets (sometimes he steels the Lamb, Millet & Rice from my roommates Pomeranian) and the Original Biscuits. Every dog food I've previously tried, (such as Eukanuba, Iams, Kibbles & Bits, and Pedigree) he has had digestive issues. I also think he was allergic to persevatives. Since I've started with Flint River Ranch about three months ago, he's been doing great. He has no more skin irritations and his coat is shiny and healthy. I highly reccomend Flint River Ranch. Give it a try, they have a 100% gurantee. I've heard that shipping was slow for some people, but I haven't had a problem living in Florida (probably depends on location.) I usually receive the food in about seven or so business days. This may be gross, but I tried a nugget from the bag, and it doesn't taste that bad (compared to other dog foods.) The price is inexpensive and the food is high quality. I've convinced many of my friends and family to try Flint River, and since they have, no one I know has stopped ordering it.
jennyz 09/26/2004
This stuff is great. Our older dog stopped eating his food, but when introduced to Flint River he got his appetite back and and had more energy. A side benefit was that he and our other dog's (chow mix) skin much improved with nice coat. We didn't say anything to our vet but she noticed the difference.
Crimsonark 04/01/2004
I have 14 dogs and raise and train Australian Shepherds. They love it and have never looked so good in their lives, even on Eukanuba/Iams, etc. believe me, they are my babies and I have tried it all! Any skin issues cleared up and they rarely get fleas. They are more energetic than ever. It does seem to cause a slightly soft stool, but the benefits are worth it. I recommend it to all puppy buyers and even tiny puppies love it. The cooking rather than extruding and kibbling makes it great for helpong prevent bloat- it doesn't expand when wet.
Tux and Nuny 10/08/2003
Is there someone out there who has tried Flint River's cat formula? I'm looking for a natural food but that also controls shedding. If so, let me know your experience and opinion.
Goldens 09/08/2003
My dogs love this food! I like that there are a variety of protein sources and no perservatives. But most importantly to me is that the food is made fresh weekly and not stored in some big hot warehouse. They ship for free (but slowly)so be sure to order it 2 weeks before you need it. My dog with epilepsy now has siezures every 5 to 6 months instead of every 1 to 2 months! We are so grateful for this side benefit!
