 | GenghisTheHun (173) 02/04/2008 | The recall system is about the dumbest thing yet devised by so-called reformers. Thankfully most jurisdictions do not allow it.

 | sfalconer (21) 12/22/2004 | The people have spoken Davis has been recalled and Arnold is Governor. The first thing he did was repeal the unfair car tax. Why should the people who own cars help prop up the state budget.

 | BIGBABY (10) 08/18/2004 | This rating may be a little late and may suprise many. I was not a fan of the recall election. No, I did not support Davis in anyway. Arnold has been a very good governor so far, too. But I'm not a fan of removing elected officials from office. When The People elect officials, they must live with their choice. They did finally realize what a jerk that Davis was. But to recall him? Why couldn't they wait until the next election? Overall, The People made a poor choice when electing Davis. They should have to live with the consequences.

 | jamestkirk (23) 10/03/2003 | You mean you approve of the current status quo? I think recalls in general are a bad idea and the legislation itself should have never been approved by the Californai legislature. The problem, however, is that Gov. Davis has so poorly managed the state's finances in general that you have to take advantage of the legality of a recall.

 | dennis-the-red (0) 09/24/2003 | To anyone who feels the Democrats are being shafted by the recall process, and who happens to wonder why George W. isn't being recalled, I say, why not? Why are YOU not out there, getting petitions going to recall him or any governor? Don't wait for some government agency to issue you a special permit, just DO IT, already and quit whining. And while you're at it, check out the Constitution, espeically the part that describes the role of the "Electoral College" and find out WHY the Repubs didn't "STEAL" the election. Oh, and maybe do a follow-up on the Florida elections of 2000, and find out that EVERYBODY (including the partisan pro-Democrats AND the partisan pro-Republicans, AND each of the "non-partisan" groups, AND...) who did a recount came to the same conclusion, that however beyond your grasp it is, BUSH WON. So get off your politically correct butts and circulate those recall petitions.

 | Right to Arm Bears (0) 09/16/2003 | Davis is a political prostitute & as recall approaches it is more apparent than ever. Calif affects the federal economy far more than the federal economy affects Calif. He inherited a budget surplus and state revenues are up 25% since he took office, but the Calif deficit is unprecedented among all states in all of history. Any corporate executive who produced such dismal results would get canned. The recall is a legal process that will require a majority vote to succeed and Calif is still a democrat state. Davis refers to the recall as "sour grapes from a bunch of losers." We'll see who the loser is.

 | winstonburdett (0) 09/08/2003 | Recall's a bad idea - even though Gov. Davis seems
like a bland nonentity. He was elected less than a year ago - voters ought to let him have a chance instead of capriciously trying to recall him.

 | leckrone (0) 09/07/2003 | Probably not the reason that the recall vote was orginally designed for, but if is has to happen, at least there are some good nob party alternatives. Certainly the Repubicans or Democrats are out of wack.

 | robinh (0) 09/07/2003 | Davis vetoed the illegal immigrant driver's license twice, stating it was a grave security risk. Now, he has signed a more lenient bill. I say recall him for, in his words, by jeaopardizing the security of the entire state.

 | twinmom101 (32) 09/05/2003 | This state is so financially strapped yet $60 million will be spent on the recall effort which stands a good chance of changing nothing if enough vote against it. Short sighted.

 | keithfancher (0) 09/05/2003 | This is a "right-wing" power grab. They tried to impeach Clinton for a "no-reason" reason and now they are trying it in California. Look what is happening in Texas.

 | DeathRattle (1) 09/04/2003 | This state needs a recall badly. Just to name a few reasons 1. The biggest state deficit in U.S. history (40 billion dollars). 2. Last in education. 3. One of, if not, the highest tax state (AND THEY STILL HAVE A DEFICIT!) 4.Numerous power outages due to total deregualtion approved by the governor 5. A governor who decided to throw money to special interest groups instead of thinking about the needs of every citizens. 6.A governor playing partisan politics blaming his problems on right wing conspiracies instead of owning up to his own actions. Need I go on before my hands become cramped from typing.

 | neolex (0) 08/30/2003 | Recall is a good thing, as long the the T does not win. Unfortunately, Californians will probably elect Arnold. In that case they will get what they diserve. It will be a good laugh I will have here in New York, when a few years later, when California's budget deficit doubles, Californians will have no one to blame but themselves for electing Arnold, remember my words.

 | bigdingbat (0) 08/29/2003 | While the recall issue seems unfair, it IS legal I suppose... Mostly I'm worried that this will set a precident of standand procedure... There is always going to be at least a million people out there who would be willing to sign a petition voting whatever governor out of office at any given time... Anyway, if the Rupublicans think they're going to win California by doing this, they're DREAMING!!.. I'll be surprised if Bustamante doesnt win, It's perfect poetic justice.

 | Tired of Fruits&Nuts (0) 08/28/2003 | Davis put a "For Sale" sign on the governor's office from the start--from dumping dioxin in S.F. bay to the prison guard contract and indian casinos. Calif government revenues are up 25% since he took office but spending is up 40%. That's right, revenues are up. It's out-of-control spending and regulation, not the national economy or the demise of the dot-com's that led to this. Davis inherited a budget surplus and has produced a deficit greater than all of the other state's deficits combined. And then he grossly misrepresented the deficit until after a narrow re-election victory over a lame and inept opponent. Terminate him. The recall is a legal process, proscribed by law. Most recall supporters are sick of the mismanagement and fraud. This is not mob rule usurping the law. This is the rule of law. It's about time for some accountability in government, too bad the legislature isn't on the chopping block with him. Democrats have controlled the governor's office and the legislature his entire term--they are the problem, not the solution. We need a new party, or at least new politicians.

 | abichara (62) 08/24/2003 | What's going on out in the left coast is really interesting. People out there are finally waking up and realizing that their governor is an opportunistic fool who only looks out for himself and himself only. Davis lacks principle; his poltical positions are the ones the polls say appeal to most people. The problem with that is when times get tough, people demand leadership. This doesn't come from polling, it comes from making the hard decisions. During the electricity crisis, Davis compromised by locking California into paying higher electricity rates. Deregulation in that state was done wrong from the very beginning, but Davis didn't do anything to make the deregulation process work right. Now Californians have to pay more for electricity unecessarily. Overall, these people pay more into the system and get less out of it than anyone else in US. California's educational system, once the best in the country, is now 50th in the nation! Businesses and people are fleeing the state, taking tax money with them. The liberal political establishment that has dominated California politics for many years has failed the state greatly. The mish-mash of interest groups that control Sacramento has caused a massive 40 billion dollar deficit to occur. Almost every state has a deficit right now, but not to the extent that California does. The state's broke, it's bond rating is nearly junk status. This is serious! When the 5th largest economy in the world is in trouble, it is time to pay attention. I believe that the recall effort is grassroots politics at its best. This is no longer about Gray Davis, it is about sending a message to the liberal political establishment that the people are no longer going to tolerate irresponsiblity and short term solutions to big problems. Davis says the recall effort is going to cost taxpayers between 30 to 60 million dollars, but I believe that the price of inaction is even greater. California is keeping the rest of the country from entering a solid economic recovery. California is a trend-setter; once Davis and the liberals get swept aside, a pro-active economic policy will be established, allowing for job growth in California and this will trickle down to the rest of the country. The liberals have lost vision so its time for new leadership in California. Davis and the rest of the liberals can no longer hide behind slogans and lies. Davis had a chance to lead during a critical time and he failed.

 | Arnold Schwartzenegg (0) 08/22/2003 | Gray Davis has the Line Item Veto. He is the only person that can solve this problem single handedly. He chose not to correct it but to make it worse for his own personal gain and at the expense of the California citizen. Recall is mild punishment for someone belonging in jail.

 | Redoedo (40) 08/21/2003 | While Gray Davis's very narrow victory in the 2002 elections is legitimate, we have to think back to just how he won that election. He denied that California's deficit was a problem all throughout his campaign, and then immediately following his election, he acknowledged that something would have to be done. As Solenoid DH said: California state law does permit this recall election. For all of you Gray Davis fans out there- if Gray is not to blame in any of this as you say, then he should have nothing to worry about in this recall election should he?

 | hendo (0) 08/21/2003 | Wow, this is a slippery slope. Whether or not you like Davis or blame him for California's ills is not the issue. Elections should not be undone at the whims of popularity, unless the politician clearly committed a crime. Do Californians really think this won't happen again? It's pretty easy to get signatures of 2% of the population and now that the can of worms is open.... Besides, I think this is a horrible strategy for the republican party. 1. Why murder someone when they're committing suicide. Davis would have been out in the next election. 2. If a republican is elected and they can't turn things around quickly, voters are going to be pretty quick to point fingers.

 | DrKryptic (7) 08/21/2003 | 41 states and the federal government are experiencing the same fiscal issues as CA. Where are the other recall efforts?? The voters spoke and now the GOP leadership wants to throw out certified election results for this farce of an election they have created.

 | Solenoid DH (19) 08/21/2003 | I'm not sure whether I like the concept of recall or not. But it's in California's Constitution, so as long as that is the law, then the people should certainly exercise it when necessary.

the voting's done is their fraud revealed. Most Americans if they are dishonest or just plain screw-ups
get fired from their job. Why is it that so many bitch and moan for the political class to sacred and
untouchable , like some god that demands worship? Let them experience life the way the rest of us
Americans have to!

 | magellan (164) 08/19/2003 | I'm not a big Gray Davis fan. I put a lot of the blame for this whole mess on his weakness - his weakness as a leader, his weakness as a politician, and his weakness as a player in the Democratic party. That being said, the precedent of ousting an elected official and overturning the will of the voters feels more like something that should be happening in Venezuela or Nigeria - NOT California. Let's just ride out the rest of the crappy Davis term, and try and learn from this mess come next election. Let's not set the "bloodless coup" precedent and allow partisan funding and spite to overturn a clean and fair election. Rule of law ALWAYS beats rule of man (or in this case, the sadly lacking rule of a weak man).
