The place was one of those round concrete pisspots like Riverfront and Three Rivers. Gone now, thank God. I haven`t been in the new place.

The fans were as mean as a turpentined bobcat, but knowing a bit about Philly, I doubt that a new stadium has changed that.

the vet was a decent stadium, but it was demolished 5 years ago...

it was a rather momentous occasion for those of us living in Philly at the time. see: http://www.skyscrapersunset.com/tours/040321-01.html for photos.

This was another of those round monstrosities developed in the 1970's to accommodate both football and baseball. The Vet did develop some personality, however, because of its different angles.

The turf of Veterans Stadium is the reason i didnt give it 5 stars, but The Vet,as I heard on ESPN Classic,is a good home run ballpark because it is a cookie cutter stadium from the 70's.

Ugly. I sat a mile from the field. Crappy turf. Philly is a great town but South Philly aint pretty. I can't wait to see the new one in June.

ugly as sin, and i was glad to see it go. that said, the stadium embodied the spirit of philidelphia sports perfectly. it was not a pretty stadium, but it was what i would call a working man's stadium. very tough, very hostile, and it gave the phillies and eagles a pretty interesting home field advantage. it's hard to argue with a stadium that was known for being hell on the opposing team.

No, it wasnt a pretty stadium...at all. But still, the Vet wasnt nearly as bad as many say. There was nothing wrong with seeing a game at the vet. It had no charm, no exciting features, no restaurants, and no grass...but its not like i left a game thinking wow what a dump, i gotta get out of here

What a horrible stadium! I'm so glad it's gone, Citzens Bank Park is a billion times better.

Probably the worst baseball stadium I've visited. It's not horrible or anything, but it's a concrete fortress, with seats that for a baseball game would be in another zip code. It doesn't matter that much because Phillies fans don't show up if they aren't winning, and when they are there, they are and won't disapoint being the rudest ignorant crowd. They are known worldwide for this, and there is even a jail on the premisis. You can usually snatch a good ticket here though. And by the way, Phillies fans, Scott Rolen gave you guys a chance and nothing could happen there. He went to a team that the fans appreciate good players instead of booing them. Lets see weighing my opions, Cardinals or Phillies. That's a no brainer.

This park wasn't as bad as people say it is. It had a spacious parking lot, the food was good. The stadium from the outside looked nice, but the playing field itself was horrible. R.I.P. The Vet, you will be missed!

**Update: I can't lie. My heart ached a little when I saw video footage of the Vet being imploded. It's weird that you can have such conflicted emotions about a stadium, of all things, but I guess you can. *OC: The Vet sucks. We need a new stadium, even if it means building in the middle of China town. If everybody remembers right, Camden Yards construction faced similar opposition (because of angry neighbors, fear of litter/crime, etc) but now nobody has a bad thing to say. People will adapt if we have a nice stadium with real grass. Period. And let's spend millions and millions... as much as it takes.

A toilet the day it opened, an insult to long-suffering Phillies fans. One time I was there the men's rooms were very crowded so I relieved myself drunkenly on a stanchion in the concourse. No one seemed to notice the difference. This place is easy to get to, but disappointing once you arrive. The only thing the ballpark has going for it is they will let you tailgate your butt off, and the cheesesteak parlors aren't too far away.

As a Philadelphia resident and as one who has been in 90% of the other parks, I can say without any hesitation that the Vet is the worst place to see a baseball game in Major League Baseball. It is a concrete cavern with bad (redundant) astroturf, no character, and terrible vantage points. You'd need the Hubble telescope to get in on the action from the 700 Level. From up there, one can seriously not see the ball at all. Good riddance.

This one hurts. . .I grew up here and I have a child-like fondness of the VET. However, it does suck. Bad turf, ugly seats, bad vantagepoints. Only my youthful nostalgia prevents this from being a complete zero.

I visited the Vet for the first time just this week. First the bad: the turf is terrible, and the place just lacks a true Baseball personality. Everything about it feels like a temporary arrangement until football season comes around. But, the views of the field, at least on the lower level, are actually pretty good. The seating bowl feels a lot smaller and more intimate than I thought it would, before visiting. The fans around me were also friendly and truly into the game, which isn't always the case at some new parks. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit the Vet more than once a season, but it's not exactly Hell, either. I had a good time there.

This is hell on earth (stadium wise). The concessions are pitiful, the bathrooms disgusting, the parking prices suck, the service is poor, and the turf is scary. It is hilarious to see the baseball cutouts on the field during football season. If you decide to visit the Vet to root for the opposing team --- think again. We don't want you here. The best part about the Vet are the passionate fans!

Considered state of the art when built in 1971 (along with similar, since-removed facilities such as Riverfront Stadium in Cincinatti and Three Rivers in Pittsburgh), the Vet is today a national embarassment. Its turf is among the worst in professional sports, nearly ending the career of Michael Irvin and shortening the careers of Mike Schmidt, Len Dykstra and Darren Daulton (if Philly doesn't get a new stadium soon, Scott Rolen will be next to go.) If the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles wish to present competitive, nationally recognized sports franchises, they and the city MUST find a place and money to build two new stadiums. What happened in Cleveland and Houston and Los Angeles cannot happen in Philadelphia.

An embarrassment to professional sports. The worst turf in the business, a horiffically boring design, a cold, concrete feel... I could go on and on.

The absolute worst stadium in the country. Nobody in his right mind wants to play here. Overpriced concessions, overpriced parking, horrible facilities, and sub-par teams. The Vet is a national joke.

Veterans Stadium is a perfect example of where sports should not be played. That building is the hugest piece of crap in baseball. It's falling apart, has artificial turf, and site lines more appropriate for football. To sum it up, it's a worthless piece of SH**.
