I seldom buy CDs, but I have bought both Royksopp CDs. Why? Their music is very unique, and there is something in the way their melodies carry you to a different place. You get lost intheir song and you find yourself listening to the same melody hundreds of times in a row; every listening experience is different. Their music is very profound; you cannot approach it superficially. You need to buy the CD, take it home, and listen to it many, many times to understand the message that they are getting across. Every song speaks to the listener. "The Understanding" follows the same tone as their debut album "Melody A.M." only you can tell from listening that they have evolved a lot as a group. And this is good; every good band learns to diversify and adapt to changes. Royksopp has managed to do it beautifully, while staying true to their unique, melodic roots.

This Scandinavian duo creates melodies which are distinctly soft in nature with gentle hooks. However, they have an often mournful sound (Remind Me and Poor Leno for example) which makes their tunes more music for quiet reflection than fodder for simple relaxation.
